Whoah, whoah, whoah!
Stop right there.
Back up a good few hundred yards and start again.
Please define "over rated".
Do you mean that in your personal opinion, MW2 was in no way deserving of its current 94 Metacritic rating or record breaking sales, however you can fully appreciate that to many millions of people it most certainly is?
Do you mean that it's not deserving of its amazingly high scores and sales, and that it's just not that good a game, so there must be some sort of conspiracy between Activision and the gaming press/retailers to make it seem like it is?
Which one, because I personally find it difficult to turn my 360 on since its release without there being at least one person playing it, and on average there are about 5 or more out of the people on my friends list.
In fact, yesterday I wanted to play some Free-For-All (not a team game) and I (annoyingly) got numerous invites from 3 totally seperate people/groups to play with them, so if the game isn't all that good, then why are people still playing it?
So far, I've put over 50 hours into the MP, and SP and Spec Ops have probably taken another 25 or so hours of my time, and I'm begining to enjoy it more and more.
So what I say is that if you like this kind of game, that is if you like twitch shooters and are competitive online, then the game is by no means over rated. In fact, it's the best option that there has been in a good long while for said gamers.
However, if those things don't appeal to you, then I still don't say that it's over rated.
The reason being that not everyone likes every type of game!
If you put me in front of a stealth game, such as an MGS or a Splinter Cell, I wouldn't like them. Put me in front of a turn based JRPG and I might fall asleep through boredom. There a many many games that I personally don't like, or have the patience to play, but I can totally see that they obviously appeal to a huge number of other people, for whatever reason, and therefore I would be reluctant to label them as over rated or so-so or average or such things.
The simple fact is that unless something better comes along, MW2 is probably going to be the most played game over the next two years. Out of all releases, I say that more people will put more hours into this game than any other game released between now and November 2011.
If that turns out to be the case, and I'm sure that it will, then there's proof right there that even though you may not appreciate it for justifiable reasons of personal preferance, the game is not over rated by any means at all.
