I think in the long wait for next-gen more people are getting involved in the PC scene which is already on the next gen. The PC looks to be the one gaining a foothold, forget the Wii U. Itll be interesting to see if the next xbox can improve on current gen PC hardware. If it doesnt it will have a hard job impressing people.
Next Gen?

that´s an interesting point indeed. it is definiteley how i feel about it. i wont forget the wii u because i love ninty games and also think/hope some third party developers will come up with some clever stuff for it. but i agree that it´s not trying to compete in tech and graphics really.
i am thinking about going wiiu and pc next gen and the more i think of it the better this plan sounds to me...
for me it ´s really only the exclusives...that´s the only real selling point to me atm and i begin to ask myself if that really justifies buying every single console next gen again.games are cheaper on the pc, you can upgrade the system, no online fees and subs, had a powerfull gaming laptop a few years back and loved it, wouldn´t buy another laptop for gaming again though, but pc, wiiu and 3ds really sounds like more than enough to get a good variation of quality gaming experiences. more than enough probably.Posted 8 months ago # -
Next gen will be all about the social integration. Extension of friends and online to a proper integrated social network in the systems OSs. You can see that in Vita, WiiU and it will be there in PS4/NextBox. Its an extension of what devs have been moving towards this generation.
Crucially I think it's also distinct from integrating into existing social networks like facebook, twitter and youtube. That also provides distinction with PCs where a variety of integration will obviously still be possible, but in a more broad and less focused sense.
Instead of games linking in to existing networks in an adhoc and per game basis every game will allow for discussion, screen grabs, content and even video clips to be shared.

Oldergamer cannot win, he either gets blasted for being a Nintendo gamer or a PC gamer, when he seems to be the most well rounded gamer on here, no allegiance to any console or system, just likes what he likes.
I personally want a very powerful next gen console, I hope its indeed a quantum leap, but i love technology and high end graphics, always have. However, I love going back and replaying old games too, and love the charm of the old games and their older graphics. I guess I want us to keep moving forward rather than stagnating because its good enough.
After seeing Watch dogs and Star wars 1313, if consoles can actually do that the future is bright.Posted 8 months ago # -
Can we talk controllers? I hope Sony steals some ideas from MS. I'd like to see a dualshock 4 with concave sticks, and triggers for your R2 & L2 buttons. Make em skinny like the Xbox controller's. I love racing games and the current dualshock triggers are not friendly. Other than that the rest can be the same.

Yep I'd like to see a big update to the Sony design. Can't see them doing too much with it though as they probably still see it as too iconic. Unless they go for a redesign which is integral to the system itself.

i totally agree. the dualshock needs to go imho. many people prefer it though and i think the japanese just don´t like the 360 pad...the 360 pad -to me -is the best pad on the market and it´s really one of the best there have ever been. i have tried many. i also loved the gamecube controller a lot.
that said, the wiiu pro controller looks great, you can argue that it is a copycat but i think it is unique enough and ergonomics is ergonomics. cannot wait to check it out.
i really do hope sony will redesign theirs or will have an option: classic dualshock design and another one...more 360/ wiiu proish.Posted 8 months ago # -
I am with you guys too, I would love to see the XB style controlers become the standard. Or at least an effort to offer different kinds of controler layout. I use a DreamGear controler for my PS3, it is laid out like a xb360 pad. The PS pad was the biggest reason I bought most multi plat games on XB360. The nice thing is that on most of the platforms there are a couple of different layouts.

You know guys funnilly enough, i did like the boomerang controller prototype when the ps3 was leaked, and it didnt matter if it wasnt comfortable enough, it did look very different, and for that good, i did like that.
My favourite controllers so far are the gamecube and the 360, then dreamcast, then dualshock, i agree that sony should come with something new this time (hoping for the boomerang style here).

I think there is a strong possibility the design of the controller for the PS4/NextBox will be led by new functionality. Sony patented a detachable design a little way back. Some sort of new features could require a redesign, like a big ass screen in the middle of it ;).

@Manu Don't you think they made the R2/L2 a disaster? I personally prefer the PS2 controller over the PS3 controller just for those buttons.

Following on from some discussion in article threads. I can see both MS and Sony converging on a service model. The console itself cheap to eventually free and a subscription model which gives you access to the service. For ~£10 a month you get the sort of online set-up Live gives you combined with a games service similar to PS+. The difference will be the change in the way new games are integrated into the service. More like a content rich free-to-play model with extensions, DLC, extra content paid for on top. So for your £10 you can actually play a decent amount of full games, old and new. The ones you really like you can add content to for more money.

Yes omelette i think the triggers are horrible on the ps3 controller, i do prefer the ps2 ones instead, if they wanted to implement triggers do it properly like the dreamcast, gamecube or the 360 gamepad, or something on those lines.
But like i said i did like a lot the boomeran prototype, i think with that shape those triggers could have worked, maybe that was the reason.
