   I was a fan of GH and got the 1st and 3rd one, and I have played RB a fair few times but never got round to buying it as I was always put off by a new version coming soon...

   So now I've finally decided I want to own a Rock band/band Hero game (mainly drums as I have a wireless guitar, but I'm willing to buy a band pack so I get mic and additional guitar). My question is, which should I buy?

   The problem is I'd like some of the Beatles songs as I know my family would play them and I like to get my parents etc involved in a little bit of gaming each Christmas, but I don't want exclusively Beatles songs. There are a few songs on the different games that I really like but I don't want to sit looking through all of the complete track lists in an attempt to weigh up each one and I also don't know which drums/guitars are the best ones (RB1, RB2, Beatles RB, Lego RB, Band Hero, other)?

   Any advice, opinions, information etc that you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated!

   If you're going to buy a full set now... get the Beatles Rock Band set (with the instruments) and then get a copy of Rock Band 2 to go with it (you can get it pretty cheap now). If you want then you can even borrow a copy of Rock Band 1 and pay to get the songs imported into Rock Band 2.

   Definitely get rock band 2 and borrow the rock band 1 for the songs. tis cheap as chips and they have challenges with the songs on which is effectively the rock band 1 linear campaign. If you decide you want to buy a guitar/band hero after this, then you'll be limited by the rock band drums having one pad/cymbal less than guitar hero. You can still play the drum tracks for guitar hero with rock band drums, but it merges the orange cymbal and green pad I believe, although have never played like this to know what it's like. I know of someone who plays guitar hero with rock band drums and has never complained about it, though I'm not sure whether he has played guitar hero with guitar hero drums to be able to comment on if you lose out on much by playing guitar hero with rock band drums.
   Overall the quality of the guitar hero world tour set I have is much better than the rock band 1 set. I'm not sure if the rock band 2 instruments are available in UK yet (although I assume so) or how much better they are than rock band 1's set, but I personally prefer the more "clicky" sound of guitar hero controllers and think the novelty of a touch strip is better than that of the solo buttons on rock band guitar controllers.

   I personally would buy a guitar hero set, probably 5 if it comes with some, as they've improved that game loads compared to world tour and the soundtrack is pretty good all round with some songs your parents will know and get involved with at Christmas (like sex on fire, which everyone seems to love, and superstition by stevie wonder! which is just awesome) and definitely get rock band 2. At the moment, rock band 2 is the best game out for them I think, although I must admit I haven't played band hero or lego rock band yet

   There a point to what you say about the drums... but given the drumming is shite in the Guitar Hero World Tour game I doubt you'd be missing out on much by losing the extra pad. If you really wanted it though, you can pick up a cymbal kit for the Rock Band 2 drums. Though not sure why most would bother (it doesn't give you an extra pad, just the option to use them instead of the normal pads).

   As for the Rock Band 2 instruments, that's what comes with the Beatles Rock Band kit (or at least a slightly modified version of the v2 instruments). Hence suggesting he gets that setup.

   Ok stay far far away from just about anything with the word "hero" in it. These games are about the music. And the ability to add new songs to whats on the game disc. This is where Rock Band wins hands down. Buy Rock Band 2(I would buy the whole RB2 set), and buy the RB1 game disc(you can pay a very small fee to import the set list from RB1 into RB2. This effectivly doubles the songs you can play from one disc(reloading game discs just to play a couple of songs everytime you turn around stinks.
   Next up, go to the RB Music store. They just hit 1000 songs offered. That is a hella lot of music. US side offers everything from Iron Maiden sets to Guns n Roses sets. From Oasis to Tom Petty. Pretty much everything is represented. That is not true on Hero games. Hero games have been very weak on the DLC side of things. When I look at a hero game, if i don't love whats on the disc, its not worth getting. And in truth, much of what is on the set list for GHWT, and GH5 are offered in the RB Music store. I would rather pay 2usd for each song I did want then 60usd for a list of songs I didn't want.
   Music games are 100% about the DLC Period. Activision runs GH and they will run it into the ground. Opting to release a new Hero game each year rather then do DLC for exsiting games.
   If you wanted to pick up Lego Rock band...again the songs are importable to your RB2 collection. Meaning that again you can play all of the songs w/o having to pop the disc out, load up another game, and wait. This is HUGE when playing with friends/family. All they want to do it play the music, not worrie about what game disc it is on. However you can not import the Beatles due to liscencing. But it is the Beatles. Worth the hassle to own em.
   I use RB1 instruments. I own RB1, RB2, Lego RB, Beatles RB, and GHWT, my instruments work great on all of the games. I would NOT recomend buying expensive instruments like the ones in the Beatles sets. No point in it. They work the same as the rest of them, they just look a tad different and cost more.

   Thank you all for the input, it has saved me alot of thinking/worrying :D

   By the sounds of it I want to get RB2 (so I can import the others), so I'm thinking I will get the RB2 Band set and buy the Beatles as a standalone (I think I saw it somewhere for < £20). That is, of course, unless anyone knows of any good deals available at the moment (either Beatles with Band set, or band set on its own?) that would work out better?

   The main advantage of getting the Beatles Rock Band set is that you get the much better instruments (and the game is included, unlike the RB2 set).
