Had anybody asking me this Q last week, I would say BioShock, Dead Space or Deus Ex, but after playing the mid budget relatively unknown game called Velvet Assassin, I found myself adding it to the list.
The game is about takinghe role of the Female British spy and digging deep behind the Nazi lines. It is a spying game with little action sequences thrown here and there. It is not the most technical game out there nor the most polished, but it is the darkest one and one of the most atmospheric ever.
I have played a lot of WW2 from CoDs to the endless PC releases and none of them dared to illustrate the scene as this game did. The graphics engine use the darkest rendering colors you could think of that even in the daylight, things look grim and scary. Not only that but the Nazi soldiers have a much deeper presentation than your usual WW2 game. You will read their letters where they express that they are missing their families, some regretting what they are doing.
The music is even darker than the look of the game. The sounds of tortured soldiers, heavy ambience and machines are very very well made and serve the game so well.
Anybody tried the game ?
