I just discovered VG24/7 yesterday, and I'm surprised at the quality of the comments here.

For the most part, they're actually on-topic, relevant, and thoughtful. There's a decided lack of nonsense, (trolls, ads, fanboys, flame wars, obscure references & poor attempts at humor, etc, etc). Very refreshing.

The majority of users write in full sentences that contain real English words. They use punctuation and spaces. This blows my mind.

I don't know how they've done it, but VG24/7 has achieved something rare not only for a video game site, but for the internet in general—worthwhile comments.

I think we've got all of the above depending on the post, but the way I see it, Kotaku is like an emotionally repressed LALA-land full of anime-lovers who go around being extremely harmless and nice to eachother, and RPS is full of people trying to copy the writers, with their not-funny-nor-witty puns-for-headlines, and argueing about stuff that no one could ever care about - ever - outside of RPS.

And VG247 isn't either of those things, so that's ultimately how it got me.

Oh, and the staff don't really fuck around like they do on a lot of other websites. They actually inform you, without constantly needing to try your patience. I like it!

Pat actually started putting down the ban hammer a few months back. It did the job, for the most part.

Now now, Michael, no need for that. Da Man uses full sentences too. I don't know why you don't just take his comments with a pinch of salt. He is often negative but I find his comments still make me laugh sometimes.

@Bamboo, the comments and community here is what keeps me coming back. As far as I'm concerned this is the only games website I need.

To my knowledge, liberal use of the ban hammer seems to do the trick.

Also, this site being slightly smaller than the sites you listed, and as such has a tighter community.

And, lastly, Pat & the guys are more awesome.

@Bamboo , agree with you a 100%. Also a tighter community here allows everyone to heard and voice their opinion. Pretty much the only site I comment on regularly.
It really rocks when you can have a discussion sans flaming , fanboyism and bigotry rampant on other sites.

247 has its funny moments where there's like a 100 comment long threads about some stupid console war stuff. And you get the occasional strongly 'opinionated' individual. But yeah its not bad.

I thought Joe Mushashi was kerplunk, now i dont know anymore.

Well regarding the topic at hand, i think the banhammer was needed because we were getting to the personal hunting treads, i mean commenters hunting other commenters in every available topic, i dont mind trolls, fanboys, flame wars,etc., we need those to have a healthy comments section, but the man hunting needed to stop, and be very far away, now it is great commenting here, really

JM is Kerplunk...

S*****r was banned and made 4 or 5 alt accounts, Kerplunk being one of them. Then Kerplunk was banned, and created a few new alt accounts, JM being one of them...

The bitter guy posts this now and then ever since he was 'unjustly' euthanized.

@Manu The man hunting still continues, although at a slower rate :P.

On-topic, I check this site out daily mostly because of the reasons the others before me mentioned: really cool editors, the small comunity which gives you the chance to be heard and some genuinely smart users that make the comment section a pleasure to check out. Sure, there are some that mess it up, but every site inevitably has 'em.

TL;DR: It's the best gaming news site you can ever find :D.
