If you went out in public and said that a company which had missed it's quarterly growth estimate by 2% was dying, first people would laugh at you, then they'd sue you, and then they'd laugh at you some more.
Not to say that the PC won't be challenged by increasingly complex devices, but dying? Actually dying? What are you smoking Pedro?

More like, mid-range PC's are lasting longer because CPU & GFX tech has outpaced software demands.
Gaming has been held back back by making games multi-platform, limited by the 2006 console hardware, which means Crysis is STILL one of the most demanding PC titles nearly five years after its release. Its SEQUEL had lower hardware requirements!
Saying that something is "dying" because people have bought 2% less is a truly stupid statement, when most people own two or three of them and their hardware is good enough, or in most cases better.
And sales of iPads PROVE your argument? That's like arguing sales of skateboards are the cause of a slump in car sales. I bought an iPad for my wife and she doesn't use it. We only use it for the kids in the car on long journeys. She prefers her laptop which has no limitations and a bigger screen and a real keyboard. If I took away the iPad, the kids would grumble and if I took away the PS3 they'd moan for a day or two, but try taking away their gaming PC's and see how much PC's are "dying"!

The simple reason why it's going to be a while before the PC is threatened, is because making things smaller currently also means making them a lot more expensive, and usually less powerful.
A traditional PC is just more bang for your buck, at the expense of being relatively immobile and large. There's obviously still going to be a market for more power, at less expense.
iPads are selling like hotcakes, which is amazing, but how many people do you know who forego a PC to own one of those things? I can't think of a single person in my network.
Asking a question like that should've made Peter Suciu abandon the angle he was working on that piece, but for reasons unknown, he didn't consider anything like it. Journalism is really in a wierd place right now.

PC's might eventually change form a bit, but I don't see them going away anytime soon. I have a xbox, Ipad, Iphone, Ipod touch, PC, and a notebook, and Im on my PC 80 percent of the time. PC's and consoles could start merging, especially if the Windows 8 on Xbox 720 is true, but the hardcore PC community wont switch, the casual users might...
