Who's excited? Who's in the beta?

I got tapped last weekend, but I haven't had the chance to participate in any of the tests yet.

Looking at the servers, it seems like things are in their proper order. Lots and lots of Conglomerate, and Vanu not so much :P

Being an old Vanu that's music to my ears. Always outnumbered, never outgunned.

I'm a bit worried by the fact that they'll be going free to play. The original PS had a heavy focus on community at its core, but I think the fact that people paid for their subscriptions meant that you had a lot more serious players who really wanted to work for the best experience.

I hope it won't be a casual mess. Fingers crossed! We should totally set up a VG247 outfit if we have enough guys :)

I'm registered but haven't got anything yet. You know I'm always down for some VG247 community warfare.

Although it is PC and, well, M&KB FPSing isn't exactly my forte but you know what all the great generals in history probably said: You can never have too much cannon fodder.

Actually I think Planetside is one of reasonably few games that would actually work with a blend of K&M and pads.

Back in the original, there were quite a few guys who did absolutely nothing in the game except crewing vehicles. You could probably do a better job of that with a pad.

The specialization and effort that people put into it just made everything feel so coordinated. I've never seen anything like it since.

It's not a coincidence that you see so many old PS players around telling war stories like they've been to Nam :P

I never played the original so I would be going into this totally blind as to what I should expect. It does sound pretty neat though.

Come on Sony! I'm probably the only person that actually pays a sub for DCUO these days! Hook a brother up!

I have a key, but it is for the beta, not the tech test which is currently going on.. But as soon as the beta starts i'll help the Terran Republic reign down fire on the clumsy NC and the VS that are so lost in the future they can't see the present :D

That is true, but i did experience in the Crysis 2 beta a long time ago that someone was banned for commenting on some site something along these lines :"I'm in the beta and this game is so awesome!". So i would rather be safe than sorry ^^

There are a lot of keys being given out on Twitter right now, definitely worth watching for. Follow anything to do with SOE.

Managed to scrounge one myself, so hopefully I'll see you there guys.

Let's figure out a server to play on and a faction to gather up in. I'd recommend going for whatever there's fewer of. It's a lot more fun when you aren't just a part of a tsunami of a certain faction.

I don't really have an overview myself yet, but it looks like the weapons have gotten a bit more conventional, and I'm not really sure what the difference is from faction to faction.

Usually Vanu are in the minority, probably because of their techno style, but it's kinda hard to gauge where the game is gonna go.

The continents look a lot smaller this time around too.

NC are the rebels, TR are the commies, and VS are the science guys.

There aren't any spare keys. If you follow any SOE-related Twitter you can find, you're bound to get one though. It took me something like 30 minutes.

Anyone know when the client is going live?

I'm on a capped internet plan, but downloads from midnight to 8am are off the cap, so if they put the client download up on Sunday that would be awesome.

So I have read that Beta access is going to be staggered.

Active Planetside 1 players will get first access starting Monday, followed by inactive Planetside 1 accounts, then the "Priority access" keys they've been handing out over the last week or so, then finally people who applied for the beta via the PS2 site will get in.

Staggered over what I have read "maybe as long as 2 or 3 weeks" depending on how well things go.

I think I kinda died a little inside :(

Is it just me or are some of the forum captcha's getting rather brutal?

The priority keys has been given out for atleast over a month, so i think a lot of people have those :P

Painful to think about, but at least the game is massive enough to allow for everybody to get in, in reasonable time. It is so much fun though, I'm gonna miss it!

Total and utter fanboygasm.

My key got flagged so I'm in. Really can't be fucked with competitive gaming tonight though.

Anybody else in and maybe joining up tomorrow at some point?

I'm also in the Firefall Beta if anyone is playing on there.
