   i cannot find something that really confirms it, but imo it is a must. i know that i´ll be able to play wii games on the wii u but i wanna know if i can play a game like kirby´s return to dreamland ON THE TABLET ALONE...that would be fantastic. other games like nsmb wii and paper mario wii should work on that thing alone too, while skyward sword obviously wouldn´t :(
   ...does anyone know for sure?

   you cannot play gamecube games anymore unfortunatley...there´s luigis mansion 2...now we need a windwaker remake and a new super mario sunshine and i´m happy.

   I doubt that would be possible as Nintendo would have to find a way to emulate the motion controls on to a tablet. I wouldn't hold my breath.

   for many games it wasn´t really needed/ didn´t use that motion stuff...like new super mario wii for example or the wii kirby games. mario galaxy could be difficult....skyward sword probably is kind of impossible. i wish they´d come up with a list of that...i really love some wii games and would love to play them on the tablet again but i never was a real fan of motion controls.

   I am sure for the games that don't need motion controls that it will be able to stream them on the controller. Nintendo will release all that infor close to release after all they have to entice all the Wii consumers on upgrading.

   If i recall correctly it was already confirmed Wii U wouldn't have BC. And it also would be extremely difficult for then to stream wii games to the controller since they already confirmed it doesn't have a processor. That would mean the system would have to play the games in which they already confirmed weren't compatible on the Wii U already.

   Unless they make the wii games digital to fit on the Wii U HDD ,which they still haven't confirmerld, that won't be happening

   "Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Nintendo, said that in addition to Wii discs being backwards-compatible on the new Wii U, digital game collections purchased over the Wii Virtual Console will also be transferable over to the Wii U, likely remaining at standard definition."

   Like poly said it won't be able to play GC games but it will play Wii games.

   yea. that´s what i thought will happen. it´s a cool feature. i hope this will be officially confirmed soon. it would be so great to play DK country returns on the tablet alone.
   but i´d hoped for doing that without using the wiimote/nunchuk...should be working too because the pad has gyroscopes, so making the "DK beat" by slightly moving the device up and down shouldn´t be too much of a problem?

   @polygem They would have to rewrite half the code of the games to make that work. Individually.

   Could you imagine trying to do some of those movement with a big giant tablet..? Yeah...

    i don´t see it for a game like mario galaxy, metroid prime or skyward sword, but games like DKCR, kirby´s return to dream land/ epic yarn, mario kart wii and nsmb wii should work quite well on the pad alone without recoding stuff. you´d just have to waggle the pad a bit sometimes if the gyro is sensitive enough it wont be a huge deal...i really hope for this to happen, it would be awesome. also all those virtual console games...just great stuff really.

    The tablet itself wouldn't be able to play Wii games, you'll still need the console on to stream it to the tablet although I think your question relates to actually being able to stream Wii games onto just the tablet which I cant answer. Nor do I really see the point unless you intend to play games at night while your partner tries to sleep.

    i just like to play games on handheld devices. sure it´s only for using it at home but i kind of like the idea of lying on the couch with the gamepad in hands playing donkey kong country returns on it. for sidescrolling games i would probably even prefer that over the telly option.

    Lacking of features like motion controls that lead that game to only limited to play on a certain device.

    No it doesn't work but I do have to say Wii games do look great (at least 1st party) upscaled on the Wii U. Last night I finally cracked open Donkey Kong for Wii and it looked great on my 55" Bravia. I can't wait to go back and play all the 1st party Wii titles that I missed because the Wii couldn't output graphics in HD.
