According to their facebook page - new cover picture stating that new DLC is coming - which makes sense after the recent free to play weekend and sales.

NTW is still one of the most played on Steam and rightly so. Much better than shitty Shogun 2 if not as indepth as Empire is.
Even with the free weekend, there are still more people playing Empire though :P
Napoleon is great, but it has an obvious problem: It's all about the French.
I mean... Really, who wants that?
I still haven't given Shogun 2 a proper chance, but I might dive into Fall of the Samurai. It looks pretty decent.
Even without properly playing it, it's still shit for one thing though. It's not Total War: Prussia. Or Total War: Blood and Iron. Both would work.
Really, going from the Napoleonic era and then completely dismissing one of the most interesting eras of warfare from 1850 to 1890 (The Crimean War, the Schleswig wars, the American Civil War, the Austro-Prussian war, the Franco-Prussian War) is a huge mistake for the series.
I think with NTW every one expected(myself included) for it to be an expansion, when infact it was released as a stand alone product and at full price. Lots of people has issues with Empire, apart from AI bugs, I didnt have hardly any problems with crashes etc.
I love Empire as it has so much scope, especially when you compare it to Shogun 2 - which is linear and very limited. Either way, Shogun 2 will be the last TW game I purchase on day 1 after the way they released all those bull shots and again, ready or not, released it.
Shame, as I have always loved the series but with every release after MTW2, their standards in AI have dropped. Its almost like they hired Shaggy from Scooby Doo to make it!
Either way, it will be interesting to see what the DLC is when Steam updates in a couple of hours. A patch was download today, which is probably it.

Napoleon is just a smoothed out version of Empire though. It's definitely good for what it is, but if you've played Empire, then I can see why you might not want to dive in right away.
It's a case of doing something similar, and getting it right the second time. What I like about Napoleon is that it makes the terrain and the weather a real factor.
Really, if we're talking about the all time greats, I would point to Rome. I can still pick that game up and play the fuck out of it on any given day. It just got it right in almost every way.
Medieval 2 was like a wet rag in the face after that. It took everything that was great about Rome, and just shit all over it.
