So we sat down last night to check this game out. (3 of us). We start the game, and the first thing out our months were "Ewwww", "What the hell", & "fuck that's ugly"... I was really looking forward to this game, but the character animations are total ass. There are more colors and crisper textrure, but dang these people are STIFF.. the Facial expressions are total ass.
Summary: All 3 of us were dissapointed in the graphics. Gameplay is solid, their character animator/artist needs to be fired.

But yeah, based of what i've seen its pretty much identical to the first game. It looked good in the day but the bar has been risen so high its either evolve or... Well not die because i'm sure the game will still sell well but, y'know...
Cost of development bein what it is I don't reckon anyone can afford to use their engine once and redevelop any more - even if they're just licensing.
i'm pretty sure uncharted 2 did that. :)

It's not that surprising really. MW2 leaked for xbox in october. Games are finished WAY before their release date as i'm sure you know, just need one dodgy guy to walk out with a copy...
I can't say I was looking forward to it, but it's still a shame as I remember a lot of people complementing the first game on its fluid animation.
the character models are ODST quality at times.
and as much as I love ODST, that is far from a compliment. other than that it's like if Ubisoft Montreal tried to create a "mature" zelda. except without miamoto's genius.
Ezio's animations are as fluid as Altair's were. Townsfolk are a bit stiffer but nothing too horrendous. The big put-offs for me are pop-in and tearing.
I thought AC1 looked good. If AC2 looks equal or better than AC1, I'll be happy. Defintiely a bit disapointing to hear that though. Perhaps a direct side effect of Uncharted 2 looking so damned good.
Maybe I'm just not picky but the game looks fine to me.. lol
modders should be shot, burn in hell mushroom stamp, and get a fucking job and pay for your games like the rest of us have to.
It looks okay to me although I do notice the graphics look a little dated especially compared to UC2 or MGS4.
I watched the Qore preview last night. Graphics look fantastic. Obviously no UC2 but easily better than the first.
Just play Super Mario Bros before this and you'll be blown away...lol.

Well the moral isn't right either Mushroom even if it is M$ and they deserve it. But I won't and don't judge your actions. You have your reasons and I'm sure I would even agree with a few of them.
Yeah... I do not insult others for what they do (cast judgment, etc.)... I felt he went over the line. I get defensive. I prefer if people, like yourself, state your displeasure or disagreement with what someone does. But, to assume someone is doing something... applying their narrow viewpoints. Then to cuss at me, without knowing said reasons... only shows the reactive nature of ignorance.
I thought the game looked pretty good when I played it at the eurogamer expo, its not the best looking game but I thought it was well above average in my eyes.
However I think the massive improvements in the game play more then make up for any percieved lack of graphical excellence.
Bear in mind Ac2 is an open world game - its GFX should be compared to the likes of GTA et al, not linear-progression games like UC2.
It is not the most attractive game, still better looking than DA:O, though. ANd it is a shit tonne of fun to actually, y'know, play.
So i have a question to anyone whos played this, and its how are the actual main assassination missions in this game can you do things your way like Hitman?

It's not the best looking overall this year, but I'm at the end and its been really fun so far. The new moves are a great welcomed and the new tactical ways you can do missions are a life saver.
Side note- Those damn archers on rooftops can be annoying. So I just always run up to them and tackle them like a game of football(American). It never gets old and is so funny because they don't expect it.
The Hindle: If you're looking for a Hitman kind of game, don't buy Assassin's Creed II. Less stealth, more action.
I'm quite surprised at the over all lack of stealth in the game, in AC1 the crowd was your cover but in AC2 you do alot of inside work so some actual wall hugging and sneaking would have been good. It looks abit dumb when you're inside a place trying to go undetected yet all you can do is just walk up to enemies and kill them AS they detect you.
Also is it just me or is there a serious lack of effort when it comes to enemies lines; I mean at some points you have to enter a restricted area at which point the guards will say stuff like "You shouldnt be up here!" Wha? I'm not on a roof i'm on the ground! Seriously record some decent lines Ubi. Same goes for the beginning of the game when you're walking around in your normal clothes "Odd cloak" and "You in the hood!" you hear your enemies say. What hood? What cloak?
Just finished it last night and I thought it was fantastic. Agree that everything outside of the animus sucks though, but everything inside is extremely well done. There were times when I couldn't stop playing it, but there were a few times (towards the end) where it did feel slightly repetitive (Venice is H U G E).
I wouldn't say it's GOTY material, I'll leave that to Arkham and Uncharted 2, but I'd give AC2 a personal score of 90/100 as it's definitley above average.
Love to discuss the ending and "The Truth" if anyone's interested...very thought provoking...
I agree with you Dr.G 100% did you get the PS3 and did you get the platinum if you got the PS3 ver. The Truth is that there is no truth, so says the Assassins Creed.
