i know - i know...this was discussed several times already but i feel the vita really reached it´s first "real" low after the e3. at least from a gamers perspective.
there´s nothing to be excited about...or not much...or not enough for a new system at least.
i enjoy(ed) the vita but i wasn´t impressed with any of it´s games this far but rayman and mutant blobs tbh. wipeout, uncharted, motorstorm rc and so on were ok but far from being must have games. sony also forces me to repurchase any of my non downloaded psp games, which kinda sucks. the pricing of psp games on the psn store varies from fair to insane. still i don´t want to buy an even fairly priced ´Daxter´, because i already purchased the umd game - this one even twice. psp games on the vita are nice, but i was able to play those on a psp obviously, so i rather want fresh vita games that show the greatness of the new system.
sony really failed to push this machine at this e3. this was obvious for everyone who watched it. i do not know why it is so hard to give vita owners more remote play options, ps 1 and ps 2 games (ps1 games and youtube are finally coming soon - this is nice but ps2 games would be so much more welcome, at least in my book - i bought a 32gb card so gimme stuff to fill this up -again sony...wtf?).
also desperateley needed: more, much more new games, i mean exciting new games.
i really didn´t plan to sell the vita but if i am honest to myself, i really don´t know why i should keep it. it´s only been 4 or 5 months since launch, sure, but a new system you have to push. you have to make early adopters feel like their purchase was a good choice, and everyone else to want this system badly (games games games is the answer and always has been).
e3 was the perfect time to do just that...and then...not so much happened.
sure i would prefer playing sly 4 on the vita but it would also be ok to play it on the ps3.
i am even not so keen on getting gravity rush now after playing the demo. i never was a huge lbp fan either, nor an ac fan. i love resistance but burning skies is putting shame on that franchise. this game should´ve never been released.
i am sad really. the hardware is so good. sony does an awful job with the software...

I agree dude they need to really push on the game front now...
But, to be fair, I think all consoles (especially handhelds) these days have a relatively slow acceleration on software releases after the launch line-up. Some more than others.
What I don't understand is people who buy day 1 or shortly after launch and then complain that the games aren't being released every week. That's just how it is to some extent. Or maybe I have it all wrong.
Anyway good luck with ^ that ; )

I made a forum post before E3 surrounding this issue, just got bashed pretty much.
Alot of people were just saying wait till after E3, the good stuff will be announced....
Well, I'm really glad I sold mine, got a very good price and picked up the ice white 3DS with Super Mario 3D Land.
Couldn't be more happy with the decision.
Looking forward to a new Zelda, New super mario 2, Luigis Mansion, Kid Icarus, Star Fox, Resident Evil, Lego undercover, Mario Paper, Kingdom Hearts, etc...
Not to mention all the DS games I missed like Castlevania that you can pick up for peanuts...
I really think the Vita is going to take a looooooong time to pick up pace, maybe until the launch of the PS4 and with development costs so much higher than the 3ds it's really not surprising where all the good games are going....

I dont want to sound like a broken record here, but the three things that are hurting the Vita are firstly not a healthy balance of games only found on vita, vita exclusives that are not found on any other console, also games that made full use of all the great teach things this device does, like deviants, but with great gameplay, and gravity rush, for example. Second the psp games issue, like you put it it is a bad move on sonys part, and i think this is the most vital, they need to give the costumer a great support with this, and third the memory cards and vita price, it is not the most important, but it will help something, at least make great bundles with a free memory card and a free game, in the boxed sonys handheld with a global release

I bought my Vita(WIFI) on launch day, but the only reason i did that because i was able to get it for 130 euros instead of 250. I would have been nuts if i had not taken that offer :) Just like everyone else i expected Sony to show some great promising upcoming games for the Vita, but to my big surprise they really didn't show much at all. Ok a new Assassin's Creed, could turn out great, could be bad too, like at the AC title on PSP.
Then there's Soul Sacrifice, coming next year, very promising but next year....is quite far off. Looking forward to Gravity Rush this year, but that's about it. PSP had awesome games like Syphon Filter, bring a new one to Vita!!!! Some great new (J)RPGSs maybe? Like already said here...bring games exclusive to the Vita and not a game that we already will be seeing on PS3 like...Sony Smash Bros and Sly Raccoon.

Also people who buy day 1 or shortly after launch and then complain there are no games they want or coming - maybe think about that before buying? For me direct exclusives are not a big issue. I really like the idea of games on PS3 and Vita being cross save compatible, or having interaction of some sort. It suits why the Vita is a good machine for me.
All consoles take a bit of time to get going, it's up to you to judge when/if it's a good time to buy it.

So let me understand this Monkey. You sold your Vita for the lack of current games and bought a 3DS and are happy for waiting for announced but non existing games?
That honestly doesn't make much since. Even the factor of the past DS collection can be rebutted by the past psp collection. Even if you owned titles before. I'm pretty sure there are other titles on their that you haven't even thought of touching that are possibly your personal second coming.
To be honest all this talk about no Vita games has gotten old. Especially, from so called early adopters. Let's look at the fact that you as a gamer who research your hobby on a regular basis can go to youtube and see all 25 vita games that were present at e3 and see what's coming. To say at least 5 out of those 25 games don't look engaging would have to be a lie.
Soul Sacrifice, Ragnarok Odyssey, Sly 4, Assassins Creed 3:liberation, and Jet Set radio were my top 5 out of the list. Four of which are original titles. I still haven't mention how I want strangers Wrath, ZoE, and the MGS collection(that's for my own fanboy reasons), or Playstation all stars.
The fact that people claim no games is getting more and more annoying when there are tons to play. Heck I have eliminated the need for my classic Xbox owning a Vita because all the stuff I was playing on that is now portable.

@mokeygourmet:
"Alot of people were just saying wait till after E3, the good stuff will be announced...."i said exactly this and i cannot believe it did not happen...:D
@lexph3re:
from all those games the only ones i am excited for is sly 4 (also on ps3), the next drinkbox game (i forgot the name or cannot spell it) and oddworld...and soundshapes.
these games are cool but they (sly4 excluded) do not really make me wow.i think now is the time to expect something outstanding from sony for vita. i don´t mean shitloads of games releasing next month, but one or two announcements of great unexpected games with a release date and some teasers for other games in the pipeline. a new vita ip or a new medievil vita. something that makes you truly excited.
then it would be a good idea to push remote play and also bring ps2 games to the vita. it is not too much to ask for mho. especially with sony saying they want to concentrate on their core markets with gaming being one of them...Posted 11 months ago # -
@monkeygourmet: ds gamewise i recommend kirby mass attack, zelda spirit tracks/ phantom hourglass, mario luigi bowsers inside story, new super mario bros of course...ahh, forget it, there are too many cool games actually...
imo kid icarus was a bit of a let down. the controlsheme kind of ruined it for me. mario 3d land is almost flawless and a hall of fame game imho, ocarina of time was a blast to play (though i got stuck in the water temple this time AGAIN), RE wasn´t my cup of tea - again controls.
luigis mansion and the new super mario game as well as paper mario and kingdom hearts, a new metroid?....well that is good stuff. sony needs at least 1 strong game in this league.oh yea....mario kart7. it´s one of my favourite mk games!
i also enjoyed the hell out of pilotwings resort...i mean. seriously. a great relaxing afterwork game.

@lex
Lol, the Vita will be lucky to have a game as good as mario 3d land in its lifetime, let alone in the next year. Also Resident Evil, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart form a nice solid foundation for the 3ds until the next batch of games come (which is very soon).
Vita still doesn't know what kind of device it wants to be... It's like the Xbox 360 of handhelds, a huge focus on social media and connective features that no one really wants... The 3ds is a classic Nintendo toy, ie: FUN!

The 3DS was the same, slow on software in its first year, but I love my Vita, recently got Uncharted and its AWESOME! Having games like UMVC3 and Disgaea 3 on the road is very appealing, but also GRAVITY RUSH is releasing this week a absolute gem! Also im looking foward to playing MGS2 and 3 on the road, its a very good system, I know the 3DS has ALOT of better games, I go on my 3ds more than my vita, but its just beginning, I know good game will be out soon, best of both worlds, I guess.
But I understand, I bought the Slim 360 first day, I owned a PS3 and i am a ps3 fanboy (not in the stupid kind) i have no use for my 360, i got all the RPGs i wanted to play but i hated gears, dislike halo and not fond of driving games, so i sold it, and i dont regret it one bit, but i do wish i could of played Witcher 2 since my Laptop is shit :p

The only things that disappointed me at e3 were the things that I wanted to see not being there. I wanted to see remote play/ps2 classics and well that was it. But, that's something I wanted to see.
I'm 4 months into the enjoyment of my Vita and It's really enjoyable thus far. I bought a lot of cheap psp games I overlooked and have beat Unit 13, Uncharted, UMVC3, and now working on ninja gaiden sigma plus and shinobido 2. I still have to get Gravity Rush(I loved the Demo) resistance burning skys(because outside of the aesthetics it's still bolstered as fun and that's what I want) and still looking forward to more.
Gravity Rush actually gave me that WOW effect when I played the Demo. It's the most impressive portable title I have seen so far. I think the Wow factor can only be attributed towards whatever your already pre-set expectations are.
So far i am super impressed with Rag and Soul sacrifice. I don't mind waiting for TGS to see more software either.

Just not to sound like a broken CD, here is something new. Day1 3DS, no new games but the possibility to play the DS games on it while my DSi went to my wife's hands. With the Vita I had hoped that Sony let me somehow play my huge PSP library of games on it. But they don't have any form of backwards compatibilIty. And they didn't even talk about it. And for the worst, each time they launch a new system, they need to launch a new, proprietary and costly format. How cool is this? Its not.
Thats why the PSP still goes strong in Japan, imho.

@lex: i respect that and really wish i could say the same. the gravity rush demo didn´t really convince me. i think it felt a bit clunky. to me gameplay is essential. the artdesign is truly awesome. i will definiteley pick this game up though. burning skies leaves me unimpressed, even makes me angry. i love the franchise.
i´m also thinking about getting psp games but then: all the psp games i would like to play i already HAVE played...some of them i even finished twice. i also do not like that i have to pay for them again of course. i also do not like that they do not feature trophy support (i am not a trophy whore-not at all, but then purchasing those games again would make at least ´some´sense)...i know it´s not easy to implement trophies in older games, but hey, you want happy customers - you got to reinvest in your service.
i think i´ll keep mine too but they really have to deliver soon. (for me a medievil vita would be more than enough) ;)
i wont wait forever though -that´s for sure.Posted 11 months ago # -
All the vita proves is the supposed desire of gamers to have a portable that plays proper console games is a myth.
Posted 11 months ago # -
Orbit i agree, and the thing is that both are very distinct kind of games, i mean handheld and consoles, what is a good gameplay mechanics for one is not for the other, both are very different in nature, and also the feelings we percieve while playing in them are also different, is not the same thing playing a COD on a console, than playing a COD on a handheld, and moreso on multiplayer, on a console you dont have that many distractions as with the hanheld for the very nature of the hanheld, and also you are not concerned with other issues like battery life, etc, therefore is not only because is a myth is because both are very different, really the things that we like in one, doesnt apply to the other and viceversa.
Posted 11 months ago # -
^ Yeah, that's my thinking too.
Posted 11 months ago # -
I would def buy a Vita again if I could run home brew on it, that is why I loved my PSP. The Vita would make a formidable portable home brew machine what with 2 touch screens and 2 sticks...
Doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon though.
Posted 11 months ago # -
The Vita is one of Sony's more quality hardware releases of late, and I don't THINK they'd just abandon it. I'm hoping that they simply have a really shit marketing team, or the games just simply aren't ready.
Take the PS3 for example. I bought one at launch, and I remember very clearly that I had no games to play for pretty much the first year and half. Sony just tends to have very slow starts is what I'd like to believe.
That being said, I can totally understand if someone thinks the Vita is completely hopeless. It is definitely not without merit to think that.

vita true next gen handheld going to rule in coming years
Posted 11 months ago # -
i didn´t want to really do this but my vita´s on amazon now. i lost all the interest in it. even if sony will push it in the future. i´m out. i really feel a bit ripped off by sony. there´s so much good stuff coming for the 3ds (i also got one of those)...i really cannot think of a reason to keep the vita. it´s sad really.
Posted 11 months ago # -
Vita is a Portstation Vita.
But in reality, that system does not have enough ports to begin with and at E3 Sony booth had casual, mobile games on it. How cool is that?
Posted 11 months ago # -
vita´s sold for an ok price and i´m happy. i picked it up on an amazon deal a few months ago: uncharted was free, wipeout and rayman only for 15 euro and an 8gb included. didn´t loose much and i am happy that i at least tried the vita out. i feel like i really gave it a chance. it just wasn´t enough to impress me. it is totally beyond me why sony isn´t releasing the hd collections for the vita too....can´t be too hard to port those. i mean there is ratchet and clank hd just around the corner but no sign of a vita version yet?!!! it would be perfect for the vita. sony:....n o t h i n g....i am sure this will come. it has too, but it takes so long. if you have such an amazing rival in form of the 3ds you just cannot afford to be lazy. preordered luigis mansion, paper mario, new super mario bros 2 and bought mario tennis today. it is fun.
Posted 11 months ago # -
So in the end you sold your brand new system that didn't have any hd remakes you wanted to buy four mario games 3 of which dont have a release date? That's about it huh?
Posted 11 months ago # -
yes sir! best choice ever.
there just isn´t an excuse for not bringing those hd remakes to the vita. it has to be punished!Posted 11 months ago # -
I just can't see the vita picking up pace till the PS4 comes out. Even then, i think they will still struggle to market it.
Uncharted really highlighted it for me, i simply don't want to play games like this on a handheld.
Enjoy your Vita, i'll enjoy my 3DS. :)
Posted 11 months ago # -
But you dont know that they won't be on a vita you just assume they won't be. I just don't see complaining about 1 system not having games(when it does you just want something familar) then purchasing games that don't even exist yet and have no idea if they would be fun. You kinda psych yourself up psychologically telling yourself these games are going to be great and then turn around and groom yourself to believe the competition is worse.
To be honest you were in a better position owning both especially seeing how vita is so new. Would there really had been a problem for you to let it collect dust for a couple months like the 3ds did its first year? I have both and im not as easily impressed by mario games as others, with that being said there honestly isn't a interesting game on 3ds right now. Does that mean im going to sell it? F no its going to sit there until i find something interesting to play on it.
And my wife can play it for the 15 minutes a week that she puts into it as well.
Posted 11 months ago # -
i own both! or owned, now that i sold the vita. i bought the 3ds as soon as the marioland bundle launched. i totally enjoy the 3ds and the games that are in the pipeline (some of those i preordered) really make me excited. i know that the games i preordered will be fun. i know i will like them because i love mario games. i played luigis mansion and loved it, 2 looks just great, same goes for paper mario and new super mario bros. you can almost be sure that those games will be great. the existing games have great replay value. i can play super mario 3d land or mk7 for ever. i don´t play them for a while then pick em up again and enjoy them as much as i did day 1. no lie. i cannot say that about any of the vita games i have played.
i am not saying that the vita is a bad system. it isn´t. it´s even pretty awesome.
it just doesn´t have the games i want to play on it and there are no signs that this will change any time soon. and that is the sad part about the vita.
like monkeygourmet said: uncharted got all the praise and it isn´t a bad game...but i really do not want to play this kind of game on a handheld. it felt more clunky on the vita, the graphics are nice but not as good as on the ps3 and overall it was the worst uc game i ever played (it still was good thx to the awesomeness of the franchise).
same goes for wipeout. i prefer HD/Fury any day of the week.
have you played resistance? tbh-just playing the demo felt like someone slapped me in the face. i like resistance a lot. this game felt lazy. the sound was awful, the artdesign, everything...sad.
y´know, when i bought my launch psp i was impressed with games like ridge racer and medievil. it was a great "magical" moment to play those games on a handheld. to me it looked fresh and technically impressive. i couldn´t believe to play games in this quality on a handheld. a similar feeling i had with playing marioland and mk7 on the 3ds. the vita just didn´t make me wow...i cannot say why but that´s just how it is.
playing uc golden abyss and wipeout on the vita was cool but there was no magic. it was pretty looking but boring. like a top model. shallow.
rayman origins was awesome...but the same version can be played on the ps3. i prefered to play it on the vita but i really do not need that when i got mario on another handheld. rayman on my ps3 is good enough for me then.
i loved mutant blobs...but mutant mudds is great too.
i really think there is no excuse why sony didn´t bring more remote play stuff. like i said, to port the hd collections shouldn´t be too tough. why aren´t those games ready for remote play yet? this is totally beyond me and can only described as LAZY.
overall i must say that i am happy that i had my 2 months or so with the system, but it was a mixed experience for me.
i sold it because atm i own a wii, ps3, 360 and a 3ds...it´s enough for me, more than i can handle timewise anyway. the 3ds is my handheld of choice. they had a fair fight. the games made the winner.Posted 11 months ago # -
At the end of all of that it still comes down to your assumptions on what should and shouldnt be availible for a device in its Launch months. What your saying is all speculation none fact, you can't say that the readiness of a feature makes the company lazy if its something their working on daily. Your honestly just being impatient.
And you also further prove my point of how you are conditioning yourself for one franchise over another. You say you know this will be great when its not even out.
I am actually going to pick resistance bs and gravity rush up in a couple of weeks. From what 3 of my friends have said their great games.
You are just having a lot of expectations with one but almost none with the other.
