I don't think i have to tell you that i still intend to play it ^^
But yeah, i'm really excited about the group finder functionality. I disagree with it being a feature that had to be there at launch, but it should have been here sooner, like 1.2 or something.
According to that video, 1.3 is more of a 'feature' patch. But you must have seen the cries for server mergers, which are coming 'early summer' and looking at the weight of this thread http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=444571 SO many more who have subbed for 6 months will be leaving.
Maybe EA didnt think this would lose players so quickly but if 1.3 IS a features only update, then they are fucked. People wont come back for stuff that they felt(myself included) should have been there at launch.
I actually went back to Rift last week - lots of goodies, free game play and it simply kicks SWTOR right in the bollocks. But that is £9 a month still with free play until lvl 20 and they have a strong base, merged servers at the right time it appears but I think any subs based MMO is going to struggle going forward.
I think there's still room for sub based MMOs, I just think maybe they need to rethink the per/month sub. I do feel that £10 a month is too much considering how quickly you can finish off content and see a lot of the game.
I would be happy to pay £10 every 3 months or so. My biggest problem is that I don't feel like the p/month subs do enough to warrant that money. There's one exception, which is always the same for me, and that's Rift. I've said it many times on here but Trion are the only dev I feel that actually offers a consistent service for that money as the game rarely goes down and their fixes are quick reliable.
IMO Rift is hands down a better game than TOR, which is a real shame because I really wanted TOR to be an MMO I would get stuck into for a while. And don't get me wrong, it's far from "bad" and they have shaped it up since release but it still feels like it's really lacking in comparison to other MMOs.
I can't say I'm overly excited about GW2 based on what I have experienced. I just don't think that's the game for me. The combat is dull and messy, and in general I find the controls awkward and fussy. But, I've bought it so I will obviously give the game a go and base my final impression on that.
