Am I missing something? Now I've selected primary and secondary skills for my witch doctor, he never melees. So he's carrying a sword and shield, but he never uses them. When I first started he had a knife and there was a sword symbol on right mouse, but I can't seem to turn it back on. Help?

I think melee weapons might be just for show on some classes (where just the stats on the weapons matter not the actual weapons), my Monk has a sword and one-handed spear but for some of his attacks he sheaths his weapons and does karate/kung-fu/awesome martial art instead. The ability with the sword symbol at the start of the game is just the basic attack you get before you have any real abilities I think. I haven't played the Witch Doctor yet however so this is just speculating.

@Pat, almost all weapons that are not for a specific class are Sticks with stats.

Most weapons are stat sticks.

Sticks? I don't get it. I can see all the weapons, and he's holding a sword and shield. Can I not use a sword? Seems a bit odd that I can equip one.

THey are just equipped for the stats. You are not able to use the weapons you have just the primary and secondary abilities as the standard attack.

@Pat, look. Your sword and shield are just stats and nothing more. You can't use them in the battle if you are not Barbarian.
You are Witch Doctor and you use these weapons as your symbols. That's it.
In the future you will get Voodoo stuff/weapons.

Ah, I *see*. Cheers :-D

Do keep in mind however that most skills scale with the weapon damage, which means you'll want to keep upgrading it ;)
Other than that, neither the WD nor Wizard use their weapons for anything but being fancy.

Go to options>gameplay and check the box next to "elective mode." this will allow you to set your mouse left or right click for melee.
