   Hey guys and gals, I know this is the wrong place to ask, but I desperately need some advice on pitching a film idea / treatment.

   I've come up with the idea for a comedy movie, but i have no idea how to get it optioned or even over to the relevant people.

   I've seen a lot of bullshit ads online that are asking me to pay money to help me out, but they all seem fake as hell.

   Anyone have any ideas on what I should do?

   I'm UK based, have written a treatment based on the film, it's all ready to go. The film would have to be US based though, but is a guaranteed easy money maker with little cost for production.

   Any help would be greatly appreciated!

   ^ That's what an agent is for, though.

   If you're new and you don't have any contacts, and no idea what you're dealing with, then I reckon signing on with someone who does is a good idea.

   Plus, an agent would also be the first competent judge of your work, so they would be able to tell you whether you're on the right track, and if anything needs fixing.

   It's worth keeping in mind that there are plenty of brilliant screenplays that end up in a dumpster. The name on the paper sometimes means more.

   I've thought about an agent. I just have this preconception of a sleazy loser, stealing my idea or not passing it to the 'right' people... I know that's labelling maybe, but I have no experience in this area?!

   Any good agencies that people could recommend would be helpful. I've already turned my synopsis into a 'treatment' to keep it snappy for potential investors.

   I'm not bothering with a script as I know if it's optioned it will prob get some kind of re-write. I have thought of sending the idea to producers viral style, I've heard that i prob wouldnt need a copyright as most people stateside are to worried about being sued to rip stuff off although I'm not sure about that either.

   My friend went to school with Simon Pegg but that's the only (mild) contact I have! :(

   Oh yeah, I wouldn't send it off 'viral style' (in Hollywood parlance, 'unsolicited') as my understanding is that it'd be more likely to just get binned (to cover their arses against lawsuits, more than anything else).
