@lexph3re, everything what you described is the reason why Sony was behind Nintendo in handheld space.
Honestly, system need it's own games. It does not matter unique they are or not, but there must be good games. Games sell hardware, not ports.

@monkeygourmet. yes journey would´ve been nice on the vita too, definiteley.
i played some halo today. i love halo....but got bored by it. haven´t played for quite some time and got pwnd pretty bad. then thought about buying journey which i wanted since it came out...played through it in one sitting and it was really stunning. i was sceptical. it was much better than i thought it would be. some said it´s too expensive for the length but i don´t regret the purchase at all- was a great journey and well worth the ticket. will play through it again soon and i can really see my girlfriend playing through this too. they created a great atmosphere. very emotional game, just because of the art- and sounddesign. thatgamecompany really did a great job and deserve all the praise. i hope for more stuff like this. videogames as a medium need more diversity.
reason why i mentioned halo: as soon as i finihed journey i said to myself that you gotta thank ms for bringing halo to the xbox but sony really delivers the extraordinary stuff in gaming.
Journey was fantastic, but then it's beautifully countered with Trials Evolution and Fez.
Fez in particular has my girlfriends interest right now. I love journey and all these games to be honest. DL indyish games are getting so much more fun imo.
Next game I have paid for is Dragons Dogma on 360. I've heard a few scare stories from Kotaku but the demo really mashed me Potatos! :)
After that, who knows?
My vita money has already been spent on an a Acer Revo XBMC PC, arriving 2moro, can't wait to set that up! ;)
Buying at launch is rarely a sensible move. Far better to buy it a couple of years in for far less... with a shitload more (insanely cheap) games.
One advantage of being an old bastard with fuck all time (and a massive backlog) I guess. :)
right fez. downloaded the demo. will get that soon as well. also played fat princess demo lateley was also fun. But journey is different imo.
have fun with the acer! I am into this In and out buy n sell "business" too but i promised myself to cut it down.
I don't know if you are playing the same nintendo handhelds as I have. But, almost all of DS's heavy hitters were ports. Even now in 3ds, there really isn't anything that is wowing about the 3DS catalog right now. I have both Vita and 3DS and I feel 3DS is the worst investment I have made to date.
If it were'nt for my wife enjoying it I wouldn't even remember I owned one. And all she plays is sprung and well that's it. I bought her mario kart 7, sims 3, farm frenzy and cooking mama 3. Very diverse selection but she only touches 1 game.
For me I bought chrono trigger and still have no ambition to touch it. All I've done is play/use my Vita. Netflix/Skype/gaming and more. I honestly don't see anything wrong with the uses of the vita right now. in games and in versatility.
I honestly can't see any reason to buy a vita at the moment. But when Persona 4 Golden comes out west I'll be the first in line throwing my money at the shops till my thirst is sated.
@lexph3re, go see the charts of 3DS games that sell for example. 90% of them are original games.
The only ports that helped them to sell the device was Ocarina of Time
and no, DS had original games. There can't be any ports because hardware is too limited to port from any console.
Dragon Quests, Pokemon's, Dungeon Crawler games, NSMB. The World Ends With You and etc., Kingdom Hearts.
There are a lot of original games.
I'm going to come back to this after My programming class and when I get off work today. Because there's a perspective I want to point out.
There are not many interesting games for VITA to make me buy one,
maybe only FIFA Football & that Diablo clone game on VITA ( what was the name? ) :D
@ Pytox: dungeon hunter....
i was very sceptical about the vita but i am really enjoying it. can´t say there arent enough games.
i just downloaded mutant blobs yesterday and it is awesome and damn cheap. it really is great. gameplayvideos don´t show how cool this game really is.
have lots of games yet to finish on the vita. super stardust is a better version of a great game, rayman origins, even unit 13 is quite fun, UC golden abyss was nice but at the same time a bit disappointing imho - well it looks great on the vita and gives you an idea of how much better games will look in the furutre so it´s still worth a purchase, wipeout is great, motorstorm rc is fun. some psp games are timeless classics too and are really cheap: FF dissidia, killzone liberation, the syphon filter games, killzone liberation, daxter, MEDIEVIL!!! and many many more.
Here are the games I think Sony would be smart to throw money at and make happen ASAP on their VITA system:
-Resident Evil (exclusive Vita title OR 3DS port, I’d take either)
-GTA: San Andreas Stories (following suit of the PSP tradition - this shit alone would sell systems)
-God of War (exclusive Vita title)
-Skate or Tony Hawk (exclusive Vita title)
-Metal Gear (drop the solid…..a new vita exclusive)
-Little Big Planet (Vita exclusive already scheuduled)
-Call of Duty (vita exclusive already scheduled i believe)

"@lexph3re, go see the charts of 3DS games that sell for example. 90% of them are original games."
Using the ever dodgey vgcharts for a list but in this context valid enough.

Doc, you might not agree, but look at the draw of those top couple of titles.
Mario, Mario Kart, and Zelda. Those are huge. Even if they are just updates as you call em. They are big name franchises. Sony doesn't even have franchises in the same league.
VS:
Uncharted, Hot Shots Golf, and Fifa.
Nintendo is in another time zone, planet, demension, and more.
8 of the top 10 selling games on 3DS are Nintendos own games.
When I say that Nintendo is the only real games company left, that is one of the things I am talking about. They put out extremly popular, well built, excelent playing, solid(and great selling) games.
I think what gamers and posters are saying is less that Vita doesn't have games, but more that Vita doesn't have great games that they want to play.
I think it is the reason why time and time again top tech hardware doesn't win. You don't play hardware, you play games. And the only reason the masses buy the hardware is to play games on it.
I think Vita will be fine. It takes time. 3DS was slow at first too. But it does need a price cut. If I was MS/Sony I wouldn't want to release my next gen systems too far behind Nintendos. By the time they come out Nintendo will have libary built up, and maybe even a lower price point. Just like the 3DS has over the Vita.
@OG
Oh no I agree with you. Just pointing out the comment from Erthazus was complete BS. The 3DS has become successful by dropping in price and releasing a load of updates to some of it's strongest franchises plus some ports.
An interesting point though, of the top 5 games on that 3DS list - the ones which according to vgchartz sold a million+.
Super Mario 3D Land - released 9 months after launch
Mario Kart 7 - released 10 months after launch
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - released 4 months after launch
Nintendogs + cats - Launch title
Monster Hunter 3G - released 10 months after launch
@DrDamn, what you described as an update is basically New Game developed for the system. That is not the update.
It's a new game and it was developed for the system and that is important and that is. Does not matter what the series are from.
BTW, Guys have you seen SOUL SACRIFICE? It looks amazing for the Vita
i want to play all the sly cooper jak daxter ratchet clank hd bundles on my vita via remote play. i hope sony will finally push this after E3...it would be so awesome. these kind of games are perfect for a handheld.
@Erthazus
Well quite. The same can apply to the Vita too. So why is one "90% Original games" but the other just ports?
