Nintendo has promised that the WiiU(Name Pending)will bring Graphics to the forefront with its next iteration of consoles and hand-helds, along with the quality of all "else" it brings! Do you believe them? I really don't!

What I have seen with the WiiU seems, "Dated!"

With Phones and Tablets coming out this year being "Gamer-Friendly" I am seeing a sagging and old Nintendo Man. Tech events are showing quad-processor phones and tablets with graphics chips to handle high end gaming, and soon becoming common place!

Yes..Yes..The 3DS saw huge Sales, but only after MASSIVE discounts and trading in an Old DS for a basically Free 3DS, which I too took part in!

I am not calling a Death Blow to Nintendo, but I am calling them STUBBORN!

Just like Kodak was Stubborn! The firm that said "FILM" would never end, and developed the first digital camera, but would not move forward from film. Now as of last week they filed for Chapter "11" Bankruptcy and admitted to not moving forward!

So I am accusing a very Stubborn Nintendo of Not moving forward! Price-point on the WiiU will tell a real story when it comes out! I have a feeling that an Outdated system will be priced too high, though I would love to be wrong!

And don't get me started on their non-existent connectivity and structure, of which they are incredibly behind!

I see where you are coming from, but i am getting my faith back little by little in Nintendo. They recently announced Nintendo Network, to compete with the others. To compete they must come with a stable network, offer cross-chat and so on. If they get all this right,and they get some great exclusives from third parties and not just ports it can be something great.

What do you mean with dated though? We haven't really seen the true power of the machine yet, we haven't really seen a real game on it and we don't even know the full specs, i don't its possible to comment on that just yet. I think that time will be E3. But i hope Nintendo can come back, and really come back. Show something great for the true gamer, unlike MS who's basically just ignoring the 'true' gamer. The peolpe that made them big with their first Xbox and 360.

If MS keeps on with this nonsense 'media center system' and Kinect bullshit, the next Xbox is not something to look forward too. But all of this is just speculation, nothing more.

Can't see this thread not degenerating pretty quickly but we can but hope.

Graphical improvements are going to be much more incremental. The gaps from PS1->PS2/XBox and then on to PS3/360 were pretty big. The jump to the next generation is going to be less notable I think. Add to that the traditional Nintendo first party output tending to gain less from graphical power due to style and they are in an easier position. Third party might be a bigger issue, but I'm not so sure they care all that much.

I'll be waiting on the WiiU to see what it becomes first. It's got some interesting ideas which could turn in to great game experiences. Lots of coulds in there though. Will also depend on the next big things from MS and Sony. I think they will be a bit more conservative this time, costs, power consumption will be big concerns. Plus what do you actually gain from higher costs in the GPU given you are looking at a top end target of 1080p? A few more polys, some funky effects, the all important 3d grass? You'll build a bigger user base with a cheap price and better content.

as i posted elsewhee on this forum, i got so very bored with my this gen gaming that i traded in my 360 (my ps3 left the building a while ago already) just to buy a wii and a 3ds. i missed that old school gaming vibe....that being said. i know what you mean, i thought the exact thing about nintendo for a long time. leaving me to ignore most of their products this gen (i had several nintendo consoles as a kid/ teenager, or tbh most of the time my cousin owned them but i was at his place almost everyday). now that i am nintendo gaming only, and i plan to continue this for the rest of this gen, i realise that i was crazy. real crazy. it´s the most fun i had in gaming since a long time. while sony and ms are trying just too hard to be techy and cool nintendo doesn´t want to be much more than a videogame company and it works. playing mario with a friend or the incredible gorgeous and near perfect zelda ss alone is among the best experiences you can get in gaming. i really like what i hear about the wiu. N needs to step up to hd- no question but at the same time they would be stupid to change too much softwarewise. i believe the wiiu (or whatever the final name will be) will become a huge success. to me it looks like it brings the best of both worlds. i really don´t mind if the ps4 xbox720 will have better graphics. wiiu will be hd and more powerfull than this generation. in the hands of a softwarecompany like nintendo this has great potential. i am really exited about a release that soon. i hope they don´t go for achivements/ trophies. i hope for something steet pass spotpasslike. like getting the highscore of the guys on your friendslist for certain games and stuff. that´s enough. that´s better. i´m fed up with achievments. i wouldn´t mind if they implement this but if not i´d prefer that. but that´s just me.

I feel like that with the style of games they choose to make and market (Mario, Zelda, etc.) that they typically won't be able to truely show off graphics capability.

I know that they showed an impressive Zelda demo for the Wii U, but I just feel that they lack a true visual masterpiece in the form of Final Fantasy, Sky Rim, or Even COD.

Interesting side bit, today is my oldest sons last day at home before he heads out the join the USAF. He, his brother, and friends are all right now sitting in the living room playing Wii Mario Kart. And I can hear their laughing and enjoyment from here in my office.

Nintendo isn't dead, never has been.

But if your looking at graphics alone, your prolly not going to enjoy Nintendos games anyways.

Also would like to poitn that artwork and graphic resolution can be different monsters. Nintendo games have very colorful graphics. They also have some great artwork. What they don't have is 1080p res. Personaly I don't miss it. That prolly sounds like a copout or some lame excuse to some, but I really don't play Nintendo games and think "geez, if only this was HD, I would enjoy it more."

Alot of Nintendo games are 4 player couch co-op. A rarity today. That beats resolution in my book.

I know some will hate on Nintendo just for being Nintendo. I also know frosty isn't one of them. He plays the Wii.

I do whish that WiiU would get a stronger online presence. And Yes HD visuals are nice.

But like a lot of people my PS360 experiences have degreated to playing mostly downloadable arcade/indie style games, OMP, and sports. Graphics can't freshen that experience up. Nintendo games are just fun to play. They put a smile on my face.

I know every one is different, but if your a OMP Shooter fan, and think that Halo, BF, or CoD is as good as it gets, your not gonna understand the joy of playing Kirby's Dreamland. Or Mario Kart 4 player/split screen.

Again, i know Frosty isn't like that. But Frosty I wouldn't worry about Nintendo, they will be fine.

I would worry about MS next gen if I was to worry at all. If I had this gen to do over again, i would have bought a Wii and a PS3. I would have left the Xbox brand sitting on the shelf. Next gen they could end up being my strategy.

Like i stated in previous posts, the gap between the new nintendo system and the new sony and microsoft system will not be as big as this gen, mainly becuase all the manufacturers will keep in mind very affordable console, and for that you will not go for the end of them all graphics cards and GPU, i think sony and microsoft will have an advantange, thats for sure, but i think the new nintendo console will be good if they can assure 1080p, if you combine that with the colorful and artful style of nintendo i think it will doenst matter the difference in the end, especially if you consider the less powerfull console has won each of their respective gen, PS1,PS2 and now wii.

Also i seen improvements in the online front, if the 3DS is any indication, i think in the new system we will see also improvements, therefore i think nintendo is now finally getting more open minded regarding online asspects, with a very open console for developers and consumers alike.

Therefore i think the new nintendo system will do good, especially if you consider they want to avoid the mistakes maded with the 3DS, and i want this for sure, not only becuase i like nintendo since my early days, i do also like microsoft and sony too, but because i consider nintendo the more fragile in terms of business becuase they are the only one dedicated 100% at gaming, and i mean it becuase is they only revenue, money speaking, they dont have multiple divisions with multiple products like the other two, thats why i do support them the most, basecally. but i enjoy all the consoles equally, i cannot think myself without playing, halo, gears, fable ,uncharted,sly, ratched, mario, zelda, really all consoles have great exclusives worth of being played by all serious gamers.

There will a substantial difference if the Xbox 720 rumor is true. 1) there will be far better anti-aliasing and shaders. 2) with the increased processing power that means more game play features attached 3) More space on the disk which means more game and assets.

Nintendo will be using a form of DVD so it will just be another Xbox 360 2.0 with the use of a tablet. Nintendo's strong suit was never graphics since N64. I would say Gameplay is but that would be a Farce after playing SKyward sword, there was nothing innovative with gameplay they use what they have used since Ocarina of Time. THis is what happens when you have old farts like Peter Molyneux and Miyamoto still in charge they refuse to come up with new ideas they use what has worked for the last iterations of their game.

I liked the idea of what the Wii U tablet could do but it comes to 3rd party developers not the first party devs. DO you think that Devs are going to do a multiplatform and put the Wii U on a seperate track of the other system because it uses a tablet? If they do it won't be anything that fits with this new controller, it will be something tacked on.

Gamecube was more powerfull than the PS2 and close to the first xbox, and it took them nowhere, the ps1 and ps2 dominated the previous gens, just like the wii, so i think graphics is not that important in the end and nintendo knows this as also microsoft and sony, but lets wait in order to see the power of all consoles, that we have all the tech specs, so we can do the proper comparisions, but again i believe the gap will be not that big not as this gen, becuase of the reasons stated above.

Yeah it was powerful except one little thing the disc was putting a stranglehold on the amount of content it could hold. It was one of the biggest mistakes I have seen from Nintendo next to using a cartridge for the 64.

Looking back in retrospective, i dont know if it was a mistake, because cartridge have a good pro list, of course it has its cons list too, but in the handheld form they survive and they demostrated that are a good physical media, and right now some consumers prefer SD cards above disc for future gaming console, so back in time surely it was a mistake becuase the trend of the time was CD, it was a cool thing that made us look like we are living in a futuristic society, just like in the movies, and it has a really cool and edgy factor especially in the youngster target, but i think those reasons erase all the good things cartridge had and still have, therefore yes it was not a good move, but i dont think it was a mistake like a failure, and i think all the manufactures did gamble a lot with the physical media sony putting almost all on the line on Blue ray, microsoft with HD-DVD and nintendo back in time with cartridges.

In my eyes the best iteration of Resident Evil 4 was the gamecube version, even though it came on two mini discs, it didnt hold anything on that tittle IMHO, so i dont think it was the reason the gamecube flop, becuase the xbox also flop, it only surpassed the gamecube by an small margin, and it has DVD also like the PS2, so i think they are other factor like the gamecube did look like a toy, although i did like it back in the day alongside with the controller, i did love the gamecube controller, but in some consumers mind, especially the more serious gamer, it looked like a toy.

If MS doesn't announce anything next E3, Nintendo will have the term "next gen" all to itself for an entire year. Even if MS does announce something for 2013, they still have a year, abit with the shadow of another system looming over them.

I would never count Nintendo out, though I agree with you in that it's frustrating they take such a backseat in graphics compared to their competitors. We will know much more regarding their new system in the coming months, and we will know how much GPU power the device actually has.
In that small device, it cannot be too powerful, the box size cannot handle a ton of heat, doesn't have much room for fans.

It will be interesting to see if Nintendo does well with the Wii-u(or whatever they choose to call it). Everyone that I know that owns a wii never plays it, except for parties and get togethers with friends and family. They bought maybe 5 to 7 games over the lifespan of that system, and spends most of their time and money on Xbox or PS3. All of these current Wii owners are taking a wait and see on the Next gen Nintendo system, and tell me they probably won't get one.

I didn't buy a Wii, I might be interested in a Wii-u, but so far, Nothing has me really that interested in it.

Bull. Shit.

If anything, Nintendo have their backs against the wall trying to hold on to their base, with little in the way of improvement. The Wii won because it caught everybody by surprise. The control scheme was open to anyone ages 3 to infinity. So you had a product that was cheap, and new. There's no way something like that isn't going to be a succes.

Critically, the Wii was never challenged. If Microsoft or Sony could've launched with a better motion controller for far lower costs than they did, it would have made a dent in the sales of the Wii. Instead they were left in the dust.

If Microsoft takes the Sony approach and creates a big slab of hardware with no way to lower the price, then the Wii U has a chance, but I strongly doubt that Sony or Microsoft are going to be that naive, based on the experiences of this generation.

If anything, the PC is a far greater threat to Sony and Microsoft. I believe Origin has started a race for publishers to try and grab as much as they can of the PC market, which is currently making more for them per release than any console.

The console manufacturers are going to need a box that combines performance, services and variety for a reasonably low cost, otherwise they're in really big trouble.

The thing is that in reality neither sony or microsoft would take such a risky move, they went the more conventional and secure way, i mean the went for better graphics, which is also valid, but the wii situation did demostrate that gamers want also new ways in gaming, something they didnt seen or felt before, i mean new ways to play the games, but like i said neither sony or microsoft should invest in such a risky move, especially when the overall reaction was that it was a gimmick thing that it wont last, that will fade away rather quickly, this happened with both the wii and the Ds, and both demostrate that risky moves and new ways to play also do matter in this business, to the point that the other two did implemented motion control as well, albeit a little to late IMO.

I think you are right and i agree, thats also the reason why i do believe the gap between sony and/or microsoft with the next wii system will be not that big as this gen, in order to maitain and affordable console with lower costs and with good graphics.

The difference isn't whether you can write motion controls on the box or not, the difference is whether you can implement them in a way that they're so easy to use, that anyone can get right into it.

I could leave a Wii in the hand of anyone's grandfather, and they'd figure it out within 10 minutes. Teaching a 4 year old how to use it wouldn't take much longer.

So it's open to anybody. Maybe you have a grandfather who needs some exercise, or maybe you have a kid who loves to game, but has a hard time with a gamepad. Maybe you just want to do some Zumba Fitness.

Nintendo combined that kind of accessibility with a price that meant anybody could buy it for xmas or a birthday, so that's exactly what happened.

Of course with an Xbox or a PS, you're looking at adding accessability to consoles that have a different target audience. Essentially you have to make a "core" console that is still "core", with motion controls that'll still let anyone play.

That's really the trick. You need a console that's easy enough for sonny to figure out, and interesting/powerful enough for daddy to play at night. If you're striking two birds with one stone, then you're also willing to pay extra for it.
