I just read a rather interesting article about Xbox and how it's more and more turning into an entertainment center. Let's just hope 'gaming' will still be one of its features in the future though. Read on.
A possibly sad future for Xbox gamers

I doubt ANYBODY buys the xbox without the main purpose to play games.

Entertainment media hub has always been the goal for both MS & Sony.

I quite like the new 360 hub tbh. I'm also quite happy for it to handle all of my entertainment needs.

Well i like the new 360 hub , but i prefer if they put all the game related hub each one next to each other and at the top three hubs, not a game hub, then a movie, then social, then game marketplace, then music, etc i mean all the game related hubs, next to each other and in first place, besides that little issue, i like the new hub too.

MS wants to be the center piece of your living room, and all this work is going that direction.
However, the Xbox IS a gaming console, and even though the next console will do a ton of other stuff, the games are going to be what drives it.
If they forget that then Sony will laugh and stomp all over them next gen.
I fear it could the case that MS will push Kinect and make their console a "good enough" machine, which would be great for Sony....Posted 1 year ago # -
the xbox has for me been the much better buy than the other two i bought this generation but if they make full on strategies i find unappealing next gen i just wont buy one and look to see if the competition offer something better, easy really.

I don't know why they're all going for this enterainment machine business, when games such as COD make more money than the film & music industry. Wii sold twice as many than SONY & M$ because its main focus was games.

Well I think their next machine should include a web browser. All these dedicated online services, but no browser? GTFO.

next gen - new cards indeed - while i didn´t own a ps1 (all my friends had one while i had a nintendo - played a lot of ps1 games with friends though), i owned a ps2 a ps3 and a 360...i decided to ONLY keep the 360 for the rest of this gen, because it´s the console i like the most out of all (it has halo, xbl and i just love the 360 pad). i just don´t want to have all of the consoles...i cannot say NO when it comes to gaming. if gaming gear is alone in a room with me.....so i had to cut it down for my own social life safety.
to me gaming consoles should be gaming consoles. i don´t like this multimediastuff. i don´t need it. i never watch tv, don´t watch sports...i do watch series once in a while like game of thrones or the walking dead, but i cannot watch them on tv here so i stream them on the net...the only thing i would be interested in would be an option to watch some american series for a cheap price...but i dont need it on my xbox really...i got an internet connection a mac and a pc at home.
it is also nice to rent movies via the xbox but the pricing is all wrong so i rarely used it...maybe 2 or three times and i always felt ripped of. technically it worked just fine though.i will closeley watch what the next gen will bring and will be open for all 3(?) systems. i´d prefer to get the new xbox, but if sony will convince me to deliver the better gaming experience i will buy their stuff.

"I doubt ANYBODY buys the xbox without the main purpose to play games."
Only to play Call of Duty or Halo.
Also, new XBLA is indeed shitty. If someone use it for entertainment, than good luck guys.

^Not only you're the last person to ask, nimrod. But you can't even spell XBL dashboard's name properly.
Good luck with the grammEr, pointless tard.

The fact that the xbox has added some streaming media "apps" (still fucking hate that word, thanks Apple) should be no cause for concern, the cause for concern should be that the days of Microsoft actively working towards bringing high quality exclusive games to the xbox seem well and truly dead. They've retained a handful (if that) of IP's that are now reaching the tipping point of over-sequelisation.
I think Kinect is a pretty good example of this. Not the hardware, but the way they're supporting it - they're not. How many 1st party MS games have Kinect support? They're expecting 3rd party pubs to do all the grunt work, and after the Wii 3rd party approach motion control with a wary "unprofitable" eye.

@freedom_stain
"How many 1st party MS games have Kinect support?"The vast majority for a while I reckon - but that isn't a huge number of titles. Kinect Sports 2, Forza 4, Halo CE Anniversay all had Kinect support of some sort. What titles didn't?

Hilarious thread guys, its genuinely making me laugh.
MS brings streaming apps to 360 and suddenly its doomed. What, like the PS3 which already has them? Lol.
MS don't spunk a bunch of details on 1st party games that may or may not even release this generation of consoles like Sony do. They never have done and probably never will, yet the same moronic cries of 'no MS exclusives for 20XX!!' repeat year after year (while MS exclusives get released and put most other exclusive sales figures to shame).
MS nearly always announce 1st party releases close to release, but they do rely heavily on 3rd party support too. They always have and have done a pretty sterling job of gobbling up the conpetitions market share.
So because MS havent announced a change in thier winning strategy they are doomed? Lol. Some people have short memories.
Having exclusives is only actually of value to the platform holder and the owners of the console if the exclusives add value to the platform anyway. I'd rather have 2 or 3 good exclusives per year than a constant flood of shite.
Far more important is the general state of gaming on the platform. Despite the 'exclusives, exclusives' bullshit that a vocal minority crow about, the fact is that multiplatforms are the bread and butter of gaming, and the truth is that 360 is just flat-out a better place to play multiplatform games, end of story.
Having owned both the competitors machines and found precious little incentive to keep them, I'm very confident about the state of gaming, and the future of the Xbox brand, and its continuing prominance in gaming.

@DrDamn, that's the point, they released Kinect, and what did they do? a couple of Wii clones and half baked support into a couple of games.
When Nintendo make games for the Wii, they make games for the Wii.

Lol at every comment on here LMAO

@ lexph3re - you do realise you7 just laughed at yourself, right?
Your comment was recursive (recursive, recursive, recursive, recursive...)

I mean personally I don,t mind the new look.
When I start up my 360 the game in the disc is highlighted.Good to have choices on your console like photo storage and netflix etc, imo.
MS like Sony are just broadening the choices for there customers really.
My consoles are for gaming first and other stuff is just that if I feel like using it.Posted 1 year ago # -
@Da Man
Relax, no need to insult him.
Also, he is right. Most of Xbox owners enjoy their recycled shooters.

There certainly is a need to. A boring (and longer) version of loki/blackdreamhunk with a mental capacity of a 10 years old, who doesn't even know what 'XBLA' stands for is hardly entitled to have an opinion on something he never used (more so that he himself likes to go on about others' lack of experience).
Also, he's a PC zealot and a mental patient. He's wrong (as usual). Most of 'Xbox owners' enjoy greatly improved Forge and despise the mess that was Reach multiplayer (well, a mess when compared to previous titles). Ironically, that has everything to do with Bungie poorly implementing new elements of gameplay . Cod is a top played game on both.
Not that I expect fanboys to have an objective view on anything, 'Playstation owner'.

@Gherrit White Can't laugh at others until you can have a healthy dose at laughing at yourself.lol

ITT: Old and jaded people stuck in the past, not willing or able to get with the times or embrace change.
This is what getting old feels like. Remember when your grandparents used to whinge about everything being better in the old days? Yep, that's exactly where you're going.
Consoles are no longer just gaming devices, and this is not just some sort of, "Xbox thing". People use them for various capabilities now, whether its streaming movies, listening to music, or playing games. Its just not solely about the games anymore. And you know what? That's perfectly okay.
I mean, the point could be argued if there was some sort of dip in the quantity and quality of core games being released, but there isn't . But there isn't. Its just not about one reigning hardware this generation, unlike the last one.

Am sorry but sky and 4OD are the best things to come on xbox so this forum is invalid.
Posted 1 year ago # -
@IrelandMichael, of course it's not about reigning hardware this gen... Because no-one wants to admit that the Wii has *won*. Well not PS3/360 fanbois anyway ;-)
