So here's my problem with Skyrim, Rage, Battlefield 3,and MW3...

Not really a problem mind you. I want my Skryim to look like Rage, or be as smooth as MW3, or as sleek as Battlefield 3 (some parts).

Not literally ofcourse. I want my Skyrim Bethesda made game to be polished and helped put together by the Rage or MW3 type engine (and/or dev team) with all the same content of Skyrim mind you, just done visually with a superior engine.

When will two developers learn this, team up, and make the best fucking FPS/3PS RPG yet (in terms of gameplay, story, audio, and visual graphics just f'ing state of the art everything)?!

Abracadabra. Bethesda....id, Nintendo.......somebody. Make is so.

You must not have played the PS3 version. No problems besides minor pop-up which I can forgive. Looked AMAZING on a 50" 1080p Panasonic 600MHz plasma, and that's the truth.

Besides, this topic isn't about Rage so much as it's more about a Skyrim type game running on a state-of-the-art graphics engine. Combining developers if need be.

PS3 version of Rage actually looks nothing special compared even to the first version of Rage on the PC.
360 version also looks better than Ps3 version.

To be honest, Id Tech 5 is outdated. (Yes, i said it). Just because ID Software released it's first game from this engine it's already dated in everything.
Mega Textures is more like MegaFailTextures.

If i want SKYRIM to look better, it should look at the WITCHER 2.

and SKYEIM is already smooth on my PC. It's 60 frames per second like your shitty looking Modern Warfare 3.

If you want good looking and smooth SKYRIM, you should know the obvious. You can get this only on the PC right now if you want.

Fair nuff. I had the misfortune to play RAGE on the PC, and that was a sobering experience.

I think games like Skyrim are made a lot easier (read: cheaper) because it runs on an ancient engine, and that engine in turn can be stretched over a million games with various tweaks.

It definitely hurts the gameplay. I'm always looking for a Thief-style stealth high, but it just seems like I'm stuck playing with singleminded target dummies of varying damage and armor capacity.

So I do back the call for a super modern Elder Scrolls game, but I also think it would cost more money than any publisher would be willing to pay.

Except maybe Bethesda, if Skyrim has sold as much as I suspect it has. Which is around a million billion copies.

First of all, ID tech 5 is not built for open world and it never was intended to be and I prefer Skyrim's engine over that or MW3 unreal 2.5 engine (really? that engine is 10 years old) I think you are putting too much emphasis on Eye candy instead of Gameplay.

ALso I have yet to experience any frame drops or issues with Skyrim PC. So if you want to bitch about something you bitch about ID's Programmer's love story or Activision inability to innovate.

MW3 is built on old id-tech isn't it? It's a modified version of the Doom 3 engine i thought?

Sorry yes you are right its ID's engine that has derived off by id tech 3 and a level designer software that was created by developers that had volunteered to work on it with the inclusion of ID.

skyrim is a HUGE open world game. you cannot compare it to much smaller, much more linear games! even rage is pretty linear and nothing even close to skyrim. you should check out mass effect 2 because this comes pretty close to what you want i believe. the size of skyrims world is where the mentioned problems are coming from. polishing all this, fixing bugs, checking out what works together and what doesnt, not ruining the gameplay or the flow of the game, etc. is really hard on a game like this. i think skyrim has improved a lot and you can see that bethesda is going the right direction, trying to get beter. the animations could have been a little better though, i agree on that - that always is a weak spot in bethesda games.

at its core COD is the Quake engine.
But heavily, heavily modiefied. its not a very honest and fair comparison.
u could say the same about the source engine.
But in its core, its quake.

@God: Fuck yes, do a Pokemon game on a console with the same kind of power that the Xbox 360 and PS3 houses. Finally, a reason to get another console than Playstation. Hell, even Pokemon Stadium on Nintendo 64 looked great. Moreover, one with the same mechanics as the core Pokemon games (Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen etc.)

Ok, first of all I think Skyrim is fantastic. I love it. Can't stop playing it.

Secondly, there's no "bitching" going on here, I simply proposed the idea what if a game like Skyrim could look even better possibly by utilizing another companies graphics engine. Yes, I love eye candy, I want beautiful top of the line state of the art breakthrough eye candy. Along with everything else that makes a great game great ofcourse, hence multiple developers.

Some do say I'm a dreamer...

(I guess with regards to MW3 engine I was more referening to smoothness/framerate)

I have yet to see an open world game look as good and perform as well as Skyrim. Rage had some huge glaring issues like the pop ins as you play along with the game being designed around performance over everything else. COD engine performs so well because its outdated and it works for the console, they don't have to do anything to it. SO you are asking for a game that is open world with the visuals of Rage with the performance of COD. Thats one hell of a pipe dream.

I'm guessing you haven't looked at the trees Phoenixblight.

There's quite a few shortcuts in there, although they've certainly done a nice job.

I have looked at the trees and they just created their own version of speedtree which WItcher 2 also had used. I am very familiar with what they had done to make the game efficient with it being open world. You just make a few instances of a tree and then use a piece of software to tell your GPU where to populate the trees.

You won't be getting it anytime soon I can tell you that Bathesda just made engine and they will be using it for next 5 years, ID will be using a modified ID tech 5 for Doom and the same goes for DIce. You don't make an engine to make a single game with it. Maybe mid next gen but it definitely won't be in the next 5 years.

This is true. It took id and DICE ages to make their new engines, then consider doing that alongside actual game development.

Red Dead looked pretty when it was released, Rock Star did a very good job with that open world - animations were good, the environments were detailed, draw distance was ok, and lots to do. Maybe not as rich as Skyrim is now, but still a decent looking open world game.
