It's pretty damn slick so far!

it´s totally awesome. almost level 6 by now. i play a male khajiit role. try to focus on combat a little more than on magic- like the stealth abilities too... i always tend to built a good allround charakter in rpgs. everytime iactually want to specialice more...but i always fail....i got a feeling skyrim wont punish me that much for my choices. at least not right from the beginning of the game. it feels like you´ll have more time to try stuff out and develop your charakter slowly. i like that.
skyrim is really beautiful. everything is detailed, items, rocks, trees. still some stiff animations here and there and i encountered some bugs and glitches already but nothing that would hurt my experience much. it´s a huge game. i haven´t patched yet because i´m offline untill 15th due to internet problems. great gameplay changes. much smoother and more beautiful than oblivion. really great game this far. it really totally sucked me in already...can´t wait for my next playsession....thing is this is not the kind of game you can start to play for an hour and then stop. it´s huge and feels like an untamed beast of a game. this means long playsessions are a must- and even after 4 hours or so (which feel like just one hour) it´s hard to stop because there´s always some levelling to do some area to explore, some spell to learn etc. did i already say that i love this game?

Absolutely incredible game! The sheer size of this game shocked me. I've been playing for about 10 hours now and I feel like I've only touched the tip of this iceberg. Although there's no classes, it works really well, and even though you can be a hybrid class you still want to start a new character and experience the game from a different races point of view.
Loving the Dark Brotherhood quests by the way :P.Posted 1 year ago # -
It's good so far except subtitles not working ,does anyone know how to fix this(PC version)?
Posted 1 year ago # -
Perhaps posters can state which version they're playing? Still on the fence about which (console) version I'm getting. Thanks!

Playing on the PC on ULTRA settings (with advanced settings on ULTRA). For now i'm enjoying it... or i enjoyed it until i killed a deer and found out that deer dropped coins... Jesus Christ.
Also, magic in SKYRIM is a cheat. They need to patch it fast and reduce it's power. I remember same thing was with Oblivion at launch, but there was a MANA regeneration problem. It was fast as hell.
Also, dissapointed that it is a huge console port with stupid mana and health regeneration. Thats retardation in my opinion. but until than, i like that each dungeon is it's own thing (like in Morrowind).
also, interface is a bit bad for the PC version. It's clearly is much better suited for the controller.
@Edo, if you are using STEAM version, subtitles should work correctly.

I don't like it. Sorry :( I wish I did like it. I love the music though. It looks a bit bland, even on PC. Its the 'clunkyness' I don't like, fair enough its not as clunky as the previous titles but im REALLY hard to please these days. Each to their own and all. I'll try again tonight after work.

Stop, i can't fight in the water anymore? This is bullshit. In the previous titles you could do that...
Also, a lot of skills missing... Like trade or acrobatics. So i guess there won't be a levitation scroll/Spell.
Posted 1 year ago # -
@Erth they had stated 6 months or so ago that levitation is gone. And there is trade its a branch in the speech area.
Posted 1 year ago # -
@Phoenix, ok. got it.
but still, you can't fight in the water anymore. This is bullshit. It was one of the coolest features in the past Elder Scrolls games.
I don't understand why you can't do it anymore.
they fixed a lot of things from Oblivion and cut a lot of features.
PS: I'm guessing that fighting in the water will be one of the biggest fanbase request and it will be available in the mods.

I don't remember fighting in water in Oblivion. I know we couldn't in Fallout 3.
When I am playing this game I am totally getting a Morrowind vibe, there is just so much crap to do, and I actually enjoy reading the books unlike Oblivion.

Yes, you can swim and fight in the water - Oblivion.
also, SKYRIM is full of retarded bugs. I found a way how to raise every skill to the full max.
1) Find a guy who can join your party
2) If he can train you just use him for 5+ levels (pay him money)
3) Take your money from his inventory
4) Repeat the proccess.also, there is no Morrowind vibe. It's Oblivion 1.5 with less features.
No acrobatics
No Athletics
Combat is not improved from the Oblivion
Worst UI in the Elder Scrolls gameAlthough there are some positive stuff. Like improved exploration and better dungeons. But so far this is it.
and yes, Todd Howard at it's best: "We crated a freakin life in SKYRIM."
Oh yeah, NPC's barely do something. NPC's in this game are very glitchy.

I'm not going to read this thread in case of spoilers, but I'm playing it on ultra PC settings and finding it very absorbing. Can't wait to play more.

@Pat
Make sure to play it with AA off and have FXAA, this is assuming you have a pretty recent Nvidia card. It essentially does what 8x AA does only FXAA is not a resource hog. You can get up to 20-40% Frame boost from using it. I just started using it tonight and my Vid card got less angry at me XD.
Here are some tweaks that I strongly suggest:

If i remember Pat's PC had 560 Geforce so Phoenix suggestion is the best solution right now.
I have GTX 580 and i get 60 FPS+ on ULTRA.
Also, Phoenix, thanks for the link, because i really ned this: "How to Set Favorites to Number Keys"
with that UI i just can't find how to use it.

I agree I was not a fan of pressing Q every freaking time when I want to change. I prefer using number keys. Now my experience with combat is much more optimized.

Cheers, Phoenix. I'll take a look.

I won 5 dragon battles already. I thought that battles with them will somehow involve tactics and strategy.
In the end, dragons are really easy to kill with one-handed weapon.Thats a dissapointment.
Also, there is any use for Dragon Scales? Maybe for future Dragon Armor? I keep it in my house just in case...

I have to say that at first I was somewhat unimpressed if not even disappointed with this game.I mean,the graphics looked like only minor improvement from their previous games and the character animations looked awkward.But,after few hours into it I was "imprisoned" in it's beautiful wast open world filled with secrets and adventures and it was slowly consuming every fibre of my being...I just can stop playing it!I know that its parts remind me of Oblivion or even Fallout 3.But that's the thing or should I say that's Bethesda and it's capability to make these immersive worlds that let you do what you want and and when you want and the music....oh the music...
Posted 1 year ago # -
Am I being dense? Where are the settings to switch off AA, etc? I've changed the FOV - loads better.
Posted 1 year ago # -
@Pat
Its wjen you start the game and it goes to the options and data files selections go to setting and FXAA is in the advanced part just make sure to turn off AA.Posted 1 year ago # -
It's like Fallout with swords.
Trolololol
Posted 1 year ago # -
@DSB, actually it's really true.
1) mini game (lockpicking skill) is exactly like in Fallout 3. Zero improvements.
2) Perks system
3) Killing shit in slow motion. Same thing in SKYRIM but you do this with the last enemy.
I'm starting to think that they completely revamped Fallout 3 engine and ported everything there.

@Phoenixblight Hey thanks for the tip,I was experiencing some lag in the caves and now with the AA off and FXAA on,no more lag and the gfx card temperature is 10 degrees lower and there is no downgrade in the quality of the picture!
Posted 1 year ago # -
@Edo
No problem, My GFX card was getting loud with my temp software also telling me it was getting 10 degrees hotter so I was fiddling around with the settings and saw FXAA and didn't know what that was, so I googled it and this article came up. Now my GFX card is much quieter and its not getting as hot.
@Erth
Those are all positive things if you are trying to be negative about the game you are failing. All those things I have enjoyed about Fallout and SKyrim did one better with adding the whole the more you use it the better you get at that skill along with giving an actual animation when you get a cinematic kill. Nothing like beating an orc's head in with my mace in slow mo.
Posted 1 year ago # -
I'm not saying that these things are negative.
but in my opinion slow mo for first person is not the best perspective considering that the animation in this game is not top notch. It's also a bit glitchy and distracting.But thats my two cents. I'm not saying that the idea is bad. Just the execution.
