Figured I'd just start this thread up for anyone who might be on the fence about this game. I like it. It feels a little faster than black ops and bullet damage is higher. Also, the maps are more frantic, and the guns have a "weightier" feel. I've only spent about an hour or so with the game, so these opinions may change a little. Overall, it's fun, faster paced COD. We all know the formula.

How precise are the guns if you reference Black Ops to MW2?
Don't know if you played them both, but basically Black Ops had a lot of dispersion and in MW2 most guns would put the round on target unless it was a recoil shot.
The guns put the bullets were you want them, the only thing you got deal with Is recoil. I'm using the M4, with the Kick (recoil reduction) perk & can empty a clip centre mass no misses.
Nice to have that, after Blops erratic targeting.
Sounding good orbit. :)
I will be picking it up tomorrow so fingers crossed.
Looks like a good value package overall anyway regardless of your preferences so happy days.
Oh and Giga has finally found the on switch on his PS3 so what can I say really. :)
Tea will be delighted I am sure.
is there a reason why campaign graphics are really good but multis graphics are abit dull?
That's pretty much how COD games have always been. I'm pretty sure it's due to them having alot more control over what's happening in the singleplayer.
@ dralen this is the first cod ive brought since cod4 and i would have thought they would have changed this by now, but so far im finding it really hard to get into
I have played around 40 minutes now, all MP mind you. It is showing it's age and that's really the only negative I have so far. That and the people I'm sure must be using hacks to get me...
At first I actually felt like it was a bit slower but maybe it was me getting back into it. My first match ended with 7 kills and 13 deaths. Luckily that was me warming up and since then been pwning.
This game is so much more fun when you're not doing completely shit :P
If you're on the PS3, what's all your tags? Reask, Orbit and G1GA (if he comes in here) you should all have a FR, name will be Peacefish.
If you have Modern Warfare 1 on PC (like me), than you dont need any modern warfare game after that! There is a lot of mod for it that recreates some of the Black Ops or MW 2 maps and no doubt MW 3 maps will be soon available!
Kill Confirmed mod also available to download, plus there's mod for high res blood decals, weapon sight and particles there!
There's also mod to add bot for offline Multiplayer called PezBOTS, the experience I feel are exactly the same as what Graham Smith wrote for PC Gamer here :
"There’s a kind of domino effect to the game: you see someone running, you stop, aim, fire, and kill them. Almost instantly, someone behind you is shooting at you. You rarely have time to get to cover or to turn and shoot back, and so you die, too. By that point, there’s someone behind your killer, shooting at them. A few steps later, you’ve respawned, and killed someone, and are right back in the same position."
I think the bots perfectly simulated what COD players do in real online multiplayer .
I only realised it in Black Ops because that was the first one I bought for a console. God Black Ops looked like shite online! LOL.
A much worthy conclusion to the story. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Black Ops had a good campaign, MW3 sure as hell had one as well. Action fans will have their fill. I didn't get the same "homefront" (not related to the game) feeling that I had when I defended American neighbourhood in MW2.
I am a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to hear Grinch's voice better. He's voiced by Tobey Maguire though it's not something you can hear.
@muffinmn100: Haters gonna hate. Have fun with your hating.
Even Makarow’s clothes don't changed in MW3 since MW 2. I’m serious. Yeah, i know it’s not like it’s a huge trouble, but we are discussing the quality here, right?
I’m playing right now and i can say that i won’t play it at all. It’s just a DLC pack with Zero quality in it. I played MW2 multiplayer for 34 hours, i’m not sure i will play more than 10 of it, thanks to Battlefield 3 at least or maybe Uncharted 3 MP…
Singleplayer is a convoluted bullshit with retarded plot, with fake Russians, with stupid sci-fi gadgets and boring on rails stuff in 95%. Some characters dies in the game and you don’t care at all after 2 games.
Multiplayer also have changes from MW2, but thats only on a cosmetic side and mechanics enchantment for most of the Perks|Killstreaks. Basically it’s an enchanced Modern Warfare 2, trying to go more for “the teamwork style”. In the end it’s not even succeeding there not because of fratboys that likes to kill or shitty class balance…
But because maps are designed in a horrible way. They are so fucking small, that you have no option to do something else than going forward. Your brain abilities are basically out and you have two options:
1) they die
2) you die
Well, thats a solid thing for a running and gunning gameplay mechanic with one exception, even Quake 3:Arena maps were clever and some of them required some kind strategy that could help you go different route and take advantage in the end.
I didn’t played with a clan, but i’m sure the basic strategy will be 1 Supp/few AS/ and most of the other guys are Specs.
but to be honest i never saw a decent clan match. Most of the time 2 guys with a clan name [COCKS] comes in to the game and play together.
to me it’s meh, even without the fact that visuals and physics are so fucking last gen that i don’t want even to talk about. Everyone know that already.
Not to mention about overused houses or models from previous COD Games. there are hundreds of these trailers on youtube.
@viralshag, PeaceFish? That was you? I thought it was just some random guy & deleted the msg! What's worse is I sent a fr to someguy called ViralShag! Is that you too? Confused :(
So, I guess that means about another 500 hours for the resident moron.
@stretch215, Sorry. For some resident idiots and retards like you i will repeat for the second time: Modern Warfare 2 i played for 34 hours.
got it? Or your brain is damaged?
@ Orbit, Yeah Peacefish is me ;) I'll send you another one later.
Viralshag is also me though, so don't worry. I just use that as my "secret account".
While I know it might be a one off, I just want to say I pwned G1GAs face last night... Haha not really, we had a good match and I just edged out a win by one measly kill.
That's the thing about MW MP compared to BF3, both are extremely satisfying but I only get the full on excitement like a one kill win from a neck and neck MP game in MW.
Played a few games earlier.
Liking the guns.
Should be on later.
Go here for PC MW 3 impression (graphic wise) :
Right. I've just completed the campaign, I've played spec ops for over an hour, and I'm about 35% through the first round of ranks in the MP.
The SP campaign was pretty intense. I watched a whole load of reviews and gameplay footage before playing the game, so many of the set pieces didn't have much of an impact with me. The ones that I hadn't seen did, though. I'm more interested in the action, so I don't really care about story in video games, but it was ok. Pretty much what I expected. I played on Hardened, and it took me over 6 hours.
Spec ops has been a lot of fun, and looks like it's got a lot more in store. The ranking system means that loads of weapons are still locked to me until I level up, so not only does that keep things interesting, but it keeps me wanting to play more, so I can unlock the better stuff. There's also a leaderboard to keep things competitive.
So far, the MP has also been loads of fun. There's a new levelling up and unlock system for weapons that's freshened things up a little. Lots of new killstreaks, weapons and perks.
The core experience is obviously still there, but with some changes from MW2 that are quite significant to seasoned CoD players, but may seem insignificant to casuals. We're talking fine balance issues, here. For example, if the building time of a Zealot in StarCraft 2 were to change by 1 second, a casual would probably never, ever notice, but the hardcore may be thrown into absolute uproar. To me, this says that they've been working really hard on refining the experience and balancing the gameplay as much as possible.
The amount of strategy and personalisation involved now, is huge. You need to pick/choose and balance personal perks, weapon perks, strike packages and killstreaks for different roles and different game types.
The maps are pretty much all close quarter combat based, which is what I prefer. It's difficult to camp on these maps, so they suit my run and gun style.
There's no training mode, which means that I can only get the MP experience online.
Right now, I only have HSPA+ "20mb" (more like 5-6) mobile broadband, with a router whose firmware is quite restricted, so I'm currently stuck with a moderate NAT. I chose the PS3 version, because here in the Middle East, I'd say the vast majority of gamers prefer it over the 360, so I needed to for better connections. That, and the fact that for some reason, my 360 won't accept that I'm not in London anymore, and keeps putting me in matches with people from the UK, where I can never usually get a better connection than 2 yellow bars at best. Because of all of this, I'm not able to play the MP in the same way as I did when I had 50mb cable broadband, and was selected for host about 70% of the time. Even so, I'm still having fun with what's available.
I've only tried 3 game modes out of 42(!). TDM, Kill Confirmed and, of course, FFA. There are also loads and loads of potential custom game types that can be made using the available tools, so there is still a huge amount of mileage as far as that's concerned.
Choosing the PS3 version has meant that I've missed out on some things that I would have with the 360 version, such as displaying of previous ranks from previous games on my player card, and some prestige tokens. By the way, as a side note, PSN seems so restrictive compared to XBL. It's annoying having so little information about other people that I'm playing against, and the lack of any sort of PSN gamercard with useful info on it is disappointing. The messaging system and the relative lack of players with mics is also a negative point. I also definitely prefer gamerpoints to the trophy system. I'll probably end up getting the 360 version as well, at some stage.
There's also the theater mode, which is always good for showing off your skills. Although, for some reason, IW's theater mode doesn't allow you to view other players in recent matches in the first person view.
I can't comment on Elite, as I haven't been able to do anything with it yet, as it's not working properly, however, there are the usual in-game stats to look over for the time being. Obviously, my connection issues mean that my stats will probably remain poor until I can get decent internet.
All in all, what you get in this package is pretty amazing for the price.
The SP may be 6 hours, but there's easily 15 or so in there if you didn't do it on veteran the first time, and then there are all the achievements/trophies to get, and the collectables to find. Both Spec Ops and the MP have hundreds and hundreds of hours in them. There are also the custom game modes and the DLC maps/Spec Ops missions/modes for those who (can eventually) subscribe to Elite or want to buy them seperately.
It's disappointing that the visuals haven't changed much, particularly the HUD, but it's not as big a deal to me as other people claim it is for them. I play tetris on a relatively regular basis, and the visuals on that are still the same as they were about 20 years ago, but it doesn't bother me. Sure, MW3 doesn't look as amazing as some other games, but it does the job.
I'd like to write some other negatives, but I really can't think of any at the moment.
That is all.
Does ADS in MW3 still look like you're holding the gun at arms length like a girl?
Just one question Giga.
I have at besr 6 meg broadband but possibly only 4 or 3 as the speed test doesn't take into account how many devices are coming off the packet I am in at a given time.
Would this have much of an impact on my online play?
Just one other thing.
I got deranked back 5 levels yesterday.
I went to the forums and it appears I am not the only one.
IW have said that if you lose stats the server will reset you but there is no guarantee you will get all your stats back.
I had a k/s of 7 but now its 4. :(
The way connections work with CoD is a very strange thing. It depends on loads of different things, from who/where the host is, to where the other players are from, to what time of day it is, and probably a whole load more. I even think how far you are from the exchange has an effect.
For example, I know someone who has a low internet speed, but his connection is usually always very good, whereas my 50mb used to cause me big problems if I was hosting and anyone from Scandanavia joined. I have no idea why.
I'm not sure about the losing rank thing. iirc, it happened to a lot of people once or twice in CoD4's early days, but the ranks came back, or there was a way of getting them back.
I call MW2.5!
Trying to get my PS3 on an NAT Type 2 "Open" is proving to be the most difficult thing in the bloody world. It's driving me mad.
It's not so bad for MW, but on FIFA it doesn't let me finish any online games without cutting out.
Pain in the arse.
No need for the cloak, I completely agree. But as I loved MW2, this is no bad thing :)
Tbh, when I play the MP it feels like coming home. The MW series have been the only games to really hook me.
Some things never change. I was thinking I was gonna wait a good while to buy MW3 because I was enjoying BF3 so much, but I keep tripping over little mistakes that makes me miss MW2.
One of those is the spawn system which isn't much better than it was in BC2. Getting shot the second you spawn is something that I've had happen to me in MW2 less than five times. In playing BF3 for a bit more than 10 hours, it's not an uncommon occurence.
One thing you could always count on with the Modern Warfares was the attention to those sorts of details, and I'm pretty sure I'll be missing that in every other game I play that doesn't live up to the same standard.
Also, great post on that article G1GA.
Yeah that spawn system in BF3 can be brutal... but it works both ways. Once some guy lying in the bushes got me got me good and proper. The game sensing my wounded ego spawned me not 5 feet behind him, allowing me to stroll up and gut him like a pig.
Good times :D
Something like that happened to me on Seine. I spawned in one of the corner shops and found myself surrounded by like 5-6 guys from the opposing team. And because the models look so similar between the teams, and there was all sorts of shit blowing up, nobody really knew who the fuck I was while I ran around just stabbing them and shooting them with my flashlight-pistol. I took down 5 of them and cleaned the shop out.
That was pretty hilarious, but as far as mechanics go, not exactly a very clever or fair way of doing it.
