Is any UK high street store taking original 60GB PS3s? Got one going dusty and The Wife is threatening to throw it in the bin. I'd like to avoid Ebay if I can, too much hassle.
Trading a PS3 60GB w/BC

Of course! I had exactly the same capacity PS3 which I took to Game Station. Although all they offered me in return was gamer XP points for my membership card, which wasn't bad considering I had quite a few already.
We've learnt a valuable lesson here too, do not listen to the wife. ;)

I would've thought CEX would give you SOMETHING for it! though I must say I despise trade-ins.. you always get raped.
Bite the bullet and eBay that mufukka.

Game, Gamestation, CEX will all do it. Besides that theres probably a few dodgy cash shops you could use.

I had the same problem a year or so back. I wanted to unload a 60g, fully BC, NA system. But no shop anywhere would recognize that it was worth more then a reg PS3. And I have sold many games on ebay before, have a perfect 100% aprov rating. Still, I hate ebay. A real pain in the ass.
So I kept my system. Unless your trading it/selling it to a real person that values the BC feature, your going to get shafted. Besides there are a lot of very good PS3 games that have piled up over the years. And even if you don't use the system now, wait a bit, and scope up those top tier exclusives for bargin bin prices. You could be glad you kept your system.
Just box it up and put in the closet. Tell your wife to keep her hands off it. Thats what I would do. But you do what you want. Its just that a shop might give you enough trade for one or two games, and the system(almost any system) is worth more then a mere couple of games.
One of my fav video idoligies is that it only takes one game. Thats all it takes to turn a system from dust collecter to most used piece of hardware under your TV. I'd wait for that game. Some gamers will tell you that the PS3 already has several of those games, that just depends on what games you value and like to play.
I am glad I still have mine.

Haha don't worry OG, it's a spare. I replaced my launch console with a 320GB slim last year.

CEX actually list their trade-in prices online. Looks like you get less for a fatty than a slim, backwards compatibility or no.
I don't think it's a feature that many gamers are interested in in 2011, most of us would rather have the extra gigabytes and thus the trade in values reflect that.

lol good deal SG :)

Why didn't you trade it in for your new slim ? That's what I did...

Because I got an unbelievable deal online for the Slim. Console plus Ltd Ed GT5 for £100 less than if I bought them separately.
