The intro to Soul Blade on the PS1 was and probably still is, one of my favourite game intros of all time -

"My son, the day you were born, the very forest of Lordaeron whispered the name: ARTHAS."
That pretty much sums it up, also love all Metal Gear Solid (canon) intros.
MGS2. Tanker. /endthread
Johnny how can you be picky when it comes to MGS? :D I wanted to say MGS2, but the Halo jump of Big Boss come to life in my mind, then the MGS4, and MGS, I decided not to pick any of them cause I can't really decide. So I went with the only other Epic option.
Demon's Souls.
After the end of World War II
the world was split into two.. East and West
This marked the beginning of the era called the Cold War
MGS 3. Not only the best opening but the best ending ive ever seen too.
There were so many it would take forever to list them. Chrono Cross, Resi3, Tenchus (esp Birth of the Stealth Assassins), Halos (esp Odst), Bayonetta, CD Tomb Raiders, Manhunt, Suikodens, Drakengard to name a few.
Killzone 1 & 2 were freaking epic sauce. God I love Brian Cox's voice over XD
Final Fantasy 8. The dual between Squall & Siefer. My first & favorite rpg. It still has some of my favorite cinematics & characters.
Prey intro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tph1FX1fBQg .
@Yoshi Because he was born to be EPIC! period.
War, war never changes.
At least not until it's sold to Bethesda.

and no, Im havent watch the anime yet :P
Favourite intro video: MGS3 (you don't actually see it until after the first mission but whatever) http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=_CbFAZ2ztlE#t=5s
Favourite opening gameplay set-piece: Uncharted 2.
@OrbitMonkey I love you, it was the first RPG and the best one !
And the opening was fasinitaing
Full Throttle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bpw9vTORlSk
I remember that word for word, it's hard to believe it was 16 years ago. Tim Schafer's finest work, and also Lucas Arts at their highest point when they were king of Point and Click, before EVERYTHINGMUSTBESTARWARS took over, although it is chock full of Star Wars references, as they were still cool then, before the prequels. It even has Mark Hamill proving that the Joker isn't the only villain he can do.
@OrbitMonkey That's the first one I was going to name, it's one of my favorites. This is another couple:
Chrono Cross

A hint: War Has Changed.
That is my favorite intro.
Also I like Fahrenheit's intro (goes to revisit it)
As GwynbleiddiuM mentioned, WoW: WotLK intro was awesome but I would add most of Blizzard's intros. Loved all of Warcraft 3's vids.
I would also add Heroes of Might and Magic VI intro and WAR's intro. I quite liked the Prototype intro and Killzone 2 was E P I C.
Pretty much any DoW and Relic vids too. There are just so many great ones. A lot of the time I would be happy to sit there and watch a full movie with some of the decent CGI.
mass effect 2, uncharted 2, super castlevania 4 (the graveyard scrolling text intro)
Fallout 3's opening is pretty sexy.
Fresh in my mind is the Shadow of the Colossus opening, before the title screen.
Set's the scene beautifully, without a single spoken word.
I have to agree with TraceableX too. The MGS4 intro/trailer is pure gold.
Diablo (the first one) hands-down.
I really liked Flashback's intro, too.
Zero Wing, PAL megadrive.
Before the hype, and before anyone had ever heard of it.
I used to stick it on when I needed a mood lift.
"The last Metroid is in captivity.
The Galaxy is at peace."
Do 8-16 bit era ones count as such too? Then, off the top of my head Battle Toads & Double Dragon, Chrono Trigger, Red Zone, Ninja Gaidens. There were many.
MGS2, Plant Opening. I just love how well the music fits the on-screen action.
