   For me it was mostly about the downsides. Cause i know about the many positives of the game. But his complaints sounded very valid to me, if they are true. Unless he didn't pay attention and well..then those things would not turn out to be true.

   Anyway, the whole trial & error thing he keeps stressing and hates, that honestly doesn't sound too 'inviting' to me neither. Dying over and over again, having to mash through the same enemies again and again..respawning enemies and such. It doesn't sound particularly fun to me.

   You know its not fun but it is very interesting.
   I mean I have 10 hours clocked and am still lvl 6 but I keep going back to it.
   Why?
   I dont know but it is not a bad game just very very challenging,
   Is that a bad thing? I dont know but gaming was always about the skill factor in a way and this game does not lead you by the hand in any way.
   I may give up soon as I said earlier but I am still curious enough to want to go on.

   In fairness though, if you make the same mistakes over and over again, it will be frustrating. Keep your shield up, check those corners, divide and conquer. That's 80% of what you need to know right there. It's like me not using cover at all in Gears, and then saying that Gears is bastard hard.

   I mean, DS is hard, but it sounds like the people who are having a hard time with it are not learning those very essential basics. Same thing that happened to me way back when, when I tried playing the original Deus Ex like a shooter and got mowed down.

   My friend gave me good advice. He said "It's not a shooter."

   Dark Souls is not a hack 'n' slash.

   I watched a few of his playthrough videos, from the start to like the sixth video. And even though alot of the comments on his video told him to use basic things like lock-on to enemies, don't wear too heavy armor, etc. But all of those mistakes, he did do. At the sixth video he was still not using lock-on, thats stupid as hell.

   Having watched the vid in moonwalkers post and put 10 hours in myself I am in agreement with him.

   I use lock on, fire-bombs, throwing knives, whatever I can buy.
   But its repetitive to the point of annoying imo.

   You beat a certain part then hit a boss, boss kills you you are back to bonfire to do same thing again and again and again.

   I am only giving my opinion on what I feel about the game so far and it is not criticism but that guy said a lot of what I have experienced thus far.

   I mean in all fairness you are warned it is very hard so fair enough but I rented it to see how I would get on and I will be returning it tomorrow and moving on.

   I might try starting again later with a different class to see does it make a difference but at the most I reckon I could wait 12 months to get this cheap and try it again.

   Its good to see games like this on the market though as lots of today's games lead you by the hand.
   Dark souls definitely doesn't.

   I again salute the ones on here that are getting through it and I imagine if I had played demons prior to this I would probably be doing a lot better.

   The key is, once you get out of the axe part and up on to the ramparts, find the bonfire fast, and you'll be happy. It'll probably be highlighted by a friendly gamer out there somewhere, but you'll see a place where you can drop down to a lower ledge. If you play with the camera a bit you'll be able to see it. :-)

   I just downed the "Crape Dragon" of whatever it's called. The big thing with a vertical mouth down its' body and big teeth :P. I'm now in blighttown, which does give me shivers.

    I've overcome my fear of ghosts, and learnt that if you just sprint at them and smack smack with the jagged ghost blade thing then they don't even get a look in.
    It's funny how with a change of tactics, even the most dangerous 'previously inaccessible areas' become manageable.

    That underwater cave with the Hydra is a sight to behold !

    Yay, doing pretty well now. Vanquished various demons, levelled up to SL 50, Found a few new embers, levelled up some of my weapons. All in all, good times. :)

    I'm up to SL 40 now, spent a loooot of souls upgrading pyro and my axe though. Currently in Blighttown, unlocked the shortcut, got both bonfires and think I've now fully explored it and just need to take down the bosses in there. Thankfully I've got rid of all the poison darting bastards and have a poison resist of well over 400 now, so I can just mosey on through without too much hassle. Unbelievable amounts of loot in there.

    Fat cunt below the broken floor in the Asylum?

    Use a two hander. Hit him in the ass. Run out. Wait for stomp (red cloud effect). Run in. Hit him in the ass. Etc.

    I recall the hard part was not getting hit the instant you fall. Just spam roll, should be fine.

    I'm too weak for two-handers. But I'm busy clearing out New Londo now, and now that I've acquired the art of abyss-walking, I'm just farming titanite chunks while working up the courage to take on the boss. Next stop, the catacombs.

    The catacombs is actually a pretty nice place. Even beat down the black night with extreme ease. It was all going so well until I got arse-raped by those three, whatever the fuck they are. :/ But I'll go back to finish the job tomorrow. Now it's TUF, and then sleep...

    Gotta say though, whoever that guy who pretty much carried me through my Seath battle and farmed some blue chunks for me en route, you're a hero fella.

    ^ Well, i got lost a few times and had to look at a guide, but free online ones were enough.

    Anyway, i've beaten it. Apparently there are several endings but what with Arkham City already out, then BF3 and UC3 coming out next week i dont have time to play through the whole thing again (and it'll be harder too, if its anything like Demons).

    Level-matching in Dark Souls is well out of order. Myself a gold phantom and a blue phantom just got one-shotted by a spell from a single black phantom (in Anor Londo), at distance. That's fucking bullshit.

    yeah I've found some invaders easy to fend-off (Force miracle is great for making an opening), whilst others pretty much one-hit me. I'm rocking some pretty decent armour, so it seems a bit off.

    Still thoroughly enjoying it though : )
