   Just thought that rather than fill up Brenna's excellent article with tonnes of random "Oh fuck, I just got raped by a gargoyle!" comments, we should maybe have a thread on the forum here instead. So how are we all doing?

   I'm level 22 now, pyromancer by trade.

   I've got on some elite armour which makes me slow as a motherfucker, but sturdy. Beefed up a bit, but still missing the likes of my beloved +5 Darkmoon scimitar. I rescued someone I think I probably shouldn't have. :^/

   Note: Spoilers are probably inevitable, but maybe if we try to make an effort not to be too explicit, it won't spoilerise the game for others.

   I've only managed about three hours so far, gone thief but really not so sure. He's fast but weapon damage is a bit poor. Not really sorted my backstab yet, and that was the cause of my last death :). He's a bit of a big bugger I thought, but he's facing away and I got up nice and close. Backstab fail, it was more of a tickle based on his health bar, lock off fail, swiftly followed by death. Just prior to that I had found a few uses for the master key, one which got me a few items and the other which led to a mysterious circular staircase going down. At the bottom was a big bloke in near white armour with a sword just slightly bigger than himself. I think I recognised him from a brief skim of the mini guide. Happy he hadn't spotted me I looked around the room from my vantage point, and then he moved. I'm still good I thought, well until he broke out into a trott anyway. There followed a dash back whence I came which should have been accompanied by the Benny Hill theme, his steps a constant sound behind me until I got out into the light when he gave up. I forgot how persistent they can be!

   Couple of questions. Anyone found the illusionary wall in the starting section alluded to in a message? Or is that just the devs having a laugh? Anyone found the key to the remaining gate there too? Is there a way back to the jail once you have left?

   That dude was all in white? My one was all black unless I'm hallucinating. I've spotted a few hints that you can get back to the asylum, but that could be a good long while yet, assuming you even can get there... Right, I'm gonna go see if I can't ring that bell.

   I'm not very far into it, but right now i get the impression its a fair bit easier than Demons. There doesnt seem to be any massive death penalty any more, and the fact that you can get full heals, level up and get a full free recharge of 5 on a health item, all on the fly in the combat area -imo- makes it an easier game.

   I also noticed that poison -one of the most annoying things in Demons- now has a visible bar that has to be filled before you'll get infected, rather then just infecting you on hit.

   My first impression of the game is that From Software have clearly decided to 'soften the blow' at least a little.

   I'm a level 31 Pyromancer now, working my way through Blingtown to ring the 2nd bell. I don't think the game is easier than Demon's Souls. The first few hours aren't that hard, but while Demon's Souls got easier after a while, Dark Souls actually gets harder.

   Is it good hard or just hard.
   Like is it satisfying or just a way of saying to yourself I bet this game.

   I have been looking at the game for a while with interest so it would be good to know from folks who have played both.

    For my money, it's mostly good hard. But I find myself stuck in the bowels of the earth at too low a soul level, with no way of leveling up, and seemingly no way to escape. And I'm irreversibly cursed. Now it feels bad hard. :-(

    As it turned out, I had to quit that last character, start a new one and work my way back up.

    You'd think that that'd really piss ya off, but it's the nature of this game that playing it again with the experience of the first time is really satisfying. I know where that good sword and shield are, and the shortcuts, and what to level. I guess this is why they keep ya so in the dark... :^)

    Enjoy reask. Uncharted 3 will definitely be an amazing game, but this is some real good shit too.

    Right.. I'm loving this so far!

    *** lots of spoilers!!!! ***

    I'm not sure what level I'm at but I'm a pyromancer using black assassins clothes I found at the bottom of the undead burg. I've rung the first bell, I had to use a summon to kill the gargoyle which was annoying and I also missed cutting his tail off...

    I managed to shoot the tale off the red dragon which gave me the Drake Sword, this really helps early on in the game. I've managed to kill the big fat knight that leads to the bottom caverns which was really tough. Best tactic was to strip off all armour and back stab as one hit kills you anyway.

    I've just bought the fire orb spell (8000 souls after rescuing the Mage) which now gives me another powerful fire spell to use when I rest at a bonfire.

    Another good tip is to use fire bombs early on with the ghost in the lower levels, eventually they will drop the jagged ghost sword, this is a great light weight sword for early on.

    Anyways, this is def my game of the year, absolutely loving it so far, gim

    Only had a chance to play around 3 hours of this. So many games!! Just got passed that mini-boss that looks like a metal rat, just had to lure it into the bonfires.

    It took me ages to figure out how to repair my weapon though; that pesky merchant was hidden well, I just had no clue he was even there.

    I have only managed to get a few hours of game time in as my freeky looking big headed sorcerer, mainly due to me have an extremely drunken Saturday night that ended in getting slapped by some random chick in a club and getting thrown out by three bouncers. It was like a real life Dark Souls encounter of my own haha.

    Just killed the taurus bridge guy only on him, got past that and the dragon on my deprived guy but it was pretty boring. I have found it to be easier than Demon's but I'm still early on. Looking forward to playing a bit more this week as Rage isn't doing much to hold my attention.

    I've managed about 10 or 15 hours so far, and surprisingly am only on my second character (a warrior). I thought I'd focus on getting a strong and fast melee before concentrating on magic. I've now got Heavy Soul Arrow, and the Heal spell, along with an upgraded Estus :) very handy!

    I've ran past a few monsters here and there (the big white dude with the club at the bottom of the big stairwell) and have managed to get into areas that I had previously thought off-limits. When you're miles away from your campfire and holding 5k+ souls, things get tense!

    I lost a bunch of stuff by dropping it by the campfire, only to see it disappear upon death ;( I naively thought it would stay there...

    Those ghosts are fucking horrible.

    Didn't know I could get past the dragon on the bridge until I read the mini-guide this morning, so that's where I'm headed tonight.

    Also, has anyone got any tips for the big butterfly boss ?

    I can't wait to get further into this game, it's good to see soul arrow is the easy farm attack that it was before. I can one shot quite a few mobs, so I can farm some souls pretty quickly if I need to.

    Silly cow was trying with both hands and all her might to pull my bottle of corona from my iron grip. She was failing and claimed "she paid for it" and then out of nowhere *SLAP*...

    I was like WTF! So I pushed her away and at this point being rather drunk, it must have caught the attention of the bouncers and I, in a just-slapped-rage threw the bottle on the ground (http://youtu.be/gAYL5H46QnQ) which then led to one guy hooking and locking my arms with two other trying to snap my wrists haha.

    It was eventful.

    I'm loving it too, and BY THE BEARD OF ZEUS it's even more addictive than the first!

    I walked up to the sleeping dragon in the Valley of Drakes (I think), contemplating snagging the loot while he slept. He looked kinda dead so I gave him a wee tap. I immediately regretted that decision.

    And I take it that, other than in MP, there's no real difference between being Human or Hollow? I've seen places reference being Undead too.. I don't really know the difference between Undead & Hollow. anyone ?

    Yeah I have to admit I was a little confused by that too. But it seems like everyone refers to themselves or you being "undead".

    And I'm with you, I haven't noticed anything changing while being back in normal human form other than having the MP stuff kick in. I have given up on spending humanity on it because I'm always pretty sure I will be hollow again within about 30 minutes.

    Also, did anyone else kill the knight that gives you the stuff in the starting area? I did, I'm hoping it will come back to haunt me later on in the game but I doubt it.

    Also, black firebomb makes that very first boss in the tutorial area a walk in the park from the get go, drops a decent but very heavy mace if you kill him on the first encounter.

    I've thought his a few times.. and though not a gamebreaker, it is a real shame..

    That damn framerate ; ( I was playing Demon's right up until I started Dark, and Demon's is just so much smoother in 90% of areas than Dark!

    Sure, the environments in Dark look much nicer in general, but it makes me a little sad that they couldn't keep a silky smooth framerate throughout.

    I am loving all of the unique weapon moves though. The swipe & backflip with a sabre-type is freaking cooooooool.

    I love the running R1 attack too. Dead before they even know it.

    Defeated the Gargoyles (on my second attempt) last night, as well as the Butterfly boss, and the big demon that shoots lightning at you. A couple of others too but I lack the ability to describe them.

    To anyone who's struggling with any of the early bosses, GO GET THE DRAKE SWORD!
