So Dark Souls Will NOT support cross game chat on 360. Why does it seem like people will skip this game over because of that? forums are blowing up on it . But, will it effect you? Will you still buy the game although you can't talk to your friends through voice chat?
Dark Souls No Cross game chat or Private Chat?(38 posts)
Makes sense, Demons Souls wasnt about hitting up your friends and going out to kill stuff, it was about brief encounters with strangers. Dark Souls will be the same.
Cross game chat is all well and good, but there are times when it simply clashes with the devs vision.
Totally agree. I love the uncompromising attitude FROM have taken with this. I remember some of my mates simply not understanding that this is about immersing yourself in a world in which other people are playing a part as voiceless strangers. So many of them complained about it not even having the basic coop requirements, which just left me exasperated tbh.
Really looking forward to Friday ( or earlier if my preorder comes super quick... ).
Dark Souls is impossible to play while talking gossip with a friend. If you loose your concentration for one second, you die. And yes I'm playing the game for a couple of days now so I know. :)
People who think gaming is just boring without party chat should stay away from this game anyway, and go back to Black Ops.
Gonna slightly disagree here...
I do love the immersive quality of Demon Souls, but i was hoping to pick up a copy of this for both myself and my girlfriend. I was hoping we could at least use private chat to share quest information and hints.
I suppose the message system is still used in Dark Souls? I just wished they could have given the option to do this.
Also, i thought the PS3 couldn't do cross game chat?! That will be the real reason they didn't implement it on the 360.
Same as the Ninja Gaiden 3 dropping the limb slicing because of memory problems.
Not trolling, just don't like developers lying about why features aren't included.
I pay for Xbox Live and all the features that come with it so i should have the option to use it if i wish.
^ Yeah, because other games dont have cross-game chat because of the PS3 version, like CoD and stuff, right?
Sorry but i dont think you're trolling, i just think you're being retarded.
@monkeygourmet: I don't think you have any idea what kinda game Dark Souls is. It is meant to play alone, there is NO "start co-op game" function in the menu. You can leave messages to help other gamers, and you can use certain stones to call another player in the form of blue phantoms to help you if you can't beat an enemy alone. After that, the blue phantom returns to his/her own world.
If you're looking for a game to play side by side with your girlfriend while having a nice chat, again: go play Black Ops or Gears of War 3. Those games are made for social co-op, Dark Souls isn't.
^ Indeed, if its anything like Demons Souls you cant pick who you play with, its random (i'm not even sure if you could see their name). Which is why no mics make sense.
Effectively Demons Souls and no doubt Dark Souls ARE single player games.
I said 'Cross-Game' chat:
mind you, i don't use the chat feature on my PS3 so maybe i don't know everything about it. I thought it just wasn't possible to have cross game chat parties.
If it is possible, im still annoyed that the feature isn't available, if you didn't want to use it, just turn it off? Why would that be such a big deal?
^ And i meant cross game chat. No, the PS3 cant do it. No, it has never stopped a game on 360 from having it. Thats why your conclusion is stupid.
I've just clocked up 60 hours on Demon Souls on PS3, and im just near opening the last bit on the Nexus hub. Not much compared to some people but i have knowledge of the game and Dark Souls is the title im most looking forward to this year.
Im playing as a priest build and my girlfriend is using a Royal based class.
I appriciate you like to immerse yourself within the game, as do I. I would just like the feature available as an option, it wouldn't hurt to have the feature in as you don't have to use it if you don't want too... It's not like it's cutting into development time or anything.
I thought Dark Souls used the PS3 as the lead platform (From what i understand it's not even being released on the 360 in Japan) and the 360 version is a port?
Maybe even an inferior port at that. As the PS3 hasn't got this feature and the 360 version is a port i felt it was safe to assume that this is why the feature was left out.
The PS3 was the lead platform, but cross game chat isnt a part of the game, its a part of the OS. The devs dont touch it unless they want to block it.
Gek has it, the chat system is independent of the game on xbox, but cross game chat can be disabled. The only place I've ever seen cross game chat being disabled is certain cod game types.
Nothing to do with what the ps3 can it can't do.
Just been reading a few forums regarding this, LOL!
people are going mental about this which is a bit of a suprise. Ultimatly this game is going to be fantastic either way.
There are definatly some crazy elitist Demon Souls players out there though...
"man, just, like experience the atmosphere they way it was intended"
"if you don't like it, don't buy it"
attitudes seem to be springing up the most. I just say, give me all the features and i'll choose which ones i want to use...
I get your point Monkey about giving you the features and options you pay for. But, with Dark Souls they are assuming that when You buy their game that you are willing to be violated. The exclusion of cross chat and PChat is soley towards the Devs stating they don't want it in their game. It doesn't have anything to do with Ps3 being the lead platform. The ninja gaiden 2 limbs being removed also had nothing to do with ps3's performance. Team ninja just wanted The Sigma series to be different. (granted the additional bosses and different character models.)
Those are Devs decisions to implement more to their games. I honestly just know a lot of people claimed they were buying this for 360 because that's where their friends are playing. And, I always chuckled because that's just not what the games are about. So, I was wondering if cross chat really is that important to people that they would miss out on such a beautiful game of pain and anguish. I honestly hope not because these games really need some support.
Don't most people have laptops?
Why can't they have a laptop with a headset plugged in, with skype installed and talk while playing with the xbl mates>?
Ooooo that was difficult.
@monkeygourmet: I also spent about 60 hours in Demon's Souls, but when playing Dark Souls I feel such a noob :p
I even died a few times in the tutorial :/
As Lounds said, if people really must chat to their mates whilst playing, it's pretty easy to find another way.
I hate all these people who bash the PS3 for not having cross-game chat. I mean sure, for some games it's awesome, but (for me at least) I can't think of anything worse than sitting playing a game whilst having some random mate gabbering away at me over a headset or through my TV. Yet, this seems to have become the norm with a lot of people.
Maybe I'm antisocial. Maybe I love to be fully immersed in a good game.
I definitely commend From Software's stance on this. This isn't WoW.
Lounds, I genuinely hope you're not serious.
You're suggesting "Plug headset into controller" versus "Get laptop, plug unique headset into PC, log onto Skype, and *then* create voice chat conversation".
What about those with desktop PCs, who don't have laptops?
If people are going to be playing games together, they're gonna be in party chat anyway, so that they can send invites to each other's games and stuff. Your suggestion is ridiculous, and far more convoluted.
I'm happy with what's been done. It's the way the devs wanted it and I respect their convictions because I think it enhances the game. I loved playing DS mostly solo and discussing the game on forums between sessions. Found it much more immersive and atmospheric that way. I realise others would like to play it a different way, but in my opinion this is part of what makes the games.
Just one aside - can they block one-on-one private chat on 360? I knew Party Chat was disabled but thought private chat might be un-blockable.
I'm in the UK, & woke up to an email from Tesco stating that my copy had been dispatched : )
Damn you... And damn Tesco too!
I would my copy to be early. I really plan on doing nothing but game this weekend. My plan is to "save money" by spending money on video games and then not seeing the light of day for the whole weekend...
I do that with green - £20 on a henry, and save myself the £100+ that I would've spent going out.
Just checked & my account hasn't been debited.. so maybe they're just toying with me...
When you pre-order from Tesco do they do the whole guaranteed release day delivery?
Yay! I was just told by Game my order has shipped. :D
Getting mine tommorow too! :) honestly can't wait to play this! <explodes with anticipation!>
@ Viral - I think so, but to be honest I was only really paying attention to the price. They seem to have cancelled one of the discount codes I put in, but it still only ended up costing me £28.99. Not bad for a special edition.
I'd hazard a guess that Game will get there's out before Tesco... but it'll be interesting to see.
£30 is a good price, I paid the usual £39.99.
Game are usually pretty good, a lot of the time my pre-orders turn up on the Thursday. I think there has only been one or two occasions where it hasn't.
Have you not read any of the other comments or for that matter, the title of the thread. THERE IS NO PARTY CHAT on 360 for this game it is disabled.
Your post was ridiculous.
