   So I've seen many people that say their favourite games overall but I've always wondered what people's favourite games are in a particular genre. Here are some of my favourite games in a particular genre. Feel free to add your own genre.

   Strategy:
   Age of Mythology, played this game 7 years ago and am still playing it to this day.

   Shooter:
   Half-Life 2, master class in games design.

   Puzzle:
   Portal 2, so funny and never got boring.

   Adventure:
   Uncharted 2, everything about it was incredible.

   RPG:
   Oblivion, the world's scale mesmerized me.

   Sandbox:
   GTA 4, having played through it again (my first play through was a rush) I realise how wonderfully crafted this game is.

   Puzzle: Puzzle Quest

   Adventure/(Action): Gaurdian Heroes

   RPG:

   JRPG - Grandia II or FFII
   Western - World of Warcraft

   Sandbox: Minecraft

   Game I am most enjoying right now - Dungeon Hunters Alliance - PS3.

    Second best ever: Little Big Adventure series

    Best RPG/Action RPG: Baldur's Gate/The Witcher 2 (Fable gets Best Zelda)

    Best RTS/TBS: World in Conflict/Civilization (Red Alert 2 was pretty great as well)

    Best Open World Game: Probably Vice City, maybe Bully

    Best FPS: Modern Warfare 2

    Best Adventure: Grim Fandango (Props to The Shivah)

    Best Platformer: Psychonauts

    Best Racer: GRiD & Rallisport Challenge tied

    Best Sports: NHL 09 & Fight Night Round 3 tied

    Best Tycoon/Business: Transport Tycoon (Theme Hospital inches behind)

    Best surprise game: Metro 2033
    Best survival horror: Dead Space
    Best fighter: Mortal Kombat (original)

    Best RPG: Witcher 2, awesome story and gameplay!
    Best Racing: NFS Underground 2, the last true NFS IMO :P
    Best FPS: Natural Selection, An original and awesome take on the genre
    Best Adventure: Grim Fandango, Exceptional humor!
    Best Horror: Amnesia, scared the shit out of me.
    Best RTS: StarCraft 2, It's StarCraft, need i say more? xD
    Best Fighter: Mortal Kombat 9, very solid game.
    Best TBS: Civ 5, can spend hours in this.
    Best MMORPG: SWToR, freaking lightning out of my fingers!
    Best Sandbox: Saints Row, either the 2nd or the 3rd, can't decide.
    Best Surprise: Amnesia

    RPG: Well Diablo 2 without a doubt, but if I put that aside, Divine Divinity. I loved that game and still do.
    Racing: Not a racing fan at all, but "Rock 'n' Roll Racing" and "Road Rash" were the most awesome experience I had. wish there was more of those.
    Best FPS: Half-Life 2 it is still better than most triple A FPS games, I also have a great deal of passion for DOOM II.
    Adventure/or horror: Resident Evil 2, those days it was SCARY and AWESOME.
    RTS/TBS: Never been a huge fan of either but StarCraft/WarCraft 3 for RTS department and Total War series and Civs for TBS one.
    Fighting: Mortal Kombat 3
    MMORPG: World of WarCraft otherwise I wouldn't be playing it for more than 4 years.
    Sandbox: Red Dead Redemption I liked.
    Sport: WWE SmackDown! 2
    And I will always love Metal Gear Solid series.

    Action (slice 'em up?) - Bayonetta / Ninja Gaiden

    Stealth - Thief II / Manhunt

    Fps - Halo CE / System Shock

    Jrpg - Chrono Trigger / Vagrant Story

    Wrpg - Planescape Torment

    Platformer / adventure - Tomb Raider

    Open world - Gta 3 / Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction / Just Cause 2

    I don't really like racing, but the old Nfs as well as the original PGR and PGR4 (haven't played in-between games) were the ones I enjoyed.

    Firstly, I would like to say being in work these three days between Xmas and new years sucks so much balls it should be a porno.

    MMO: The Matrix Online (probably nostalgia and the fact it was my first MMO)

    Shooter: Republic Commando (offline) I'm tempted to say Brink... I really like it (online)

    RPG: Too many.

    Sandbox: Vice City

    Sports: FIFA 12

    Driving: NFS: Underground 2

    Strategy: The original Starcraft: Brood War expansion. Epic story and gameplay.

    FPS Shooter: Duke Nukem 3D (the original).

    Arcade shooter: Beat Hazard - intense fun, and a great way to enjoy your fave tunes.

    Indie game: The Binding of Isaac. 45 hours for £3.. nice.

    Puzzle: The original Portal, need I explain why?

    Adventure: Darksiders. Only one I've really found "unputdownable" for a long time.

    Platformer: Super Metroid. because it was so much more than just a platformer, and was the last truly great metroid game.

    RPG: Panzer Dragoon Saga. Truly original, mindblowing, and frankly a damn waste it only ever got released on the Saturn.

    Sandbox: Saint's Row the Third, hands down. Sheer joy and fun just pour out of this game.

    Horror: Eternal Darkness, INFINITELY better than any res evil game and yet sadly so few have even heard of it. Again because it was released on a console that not many owned (gamecube). If you have a wii, try to get this game. You'll thank me.

    I'm a bit older than some of you i'm sure, so I feature games you all might not have played, but were/are amazing. These are my favorites of all time.

    RPG: Any TES game - been a fan since Daggerfall
    Racing: Rallysport Challenge (1 and 2) for the Xbox, still my favorites.
    Dirt and Dirt 3 comes closest in modern games.
    FPS: Heretic - I would die for a remake, or at least a competent fantasy first person shooter.. Honorable mentions - Shogo and Condemned.
    Adventure: Sanitarium (This game is STILL amazing trust me, get it on GOG)
    Horror: Silent Hill 2
    Action - Forsaken Multiplayer - Absolutely a blast, especially with a spaceorb, still the best controller EVER!!! Descent 1 and 2 honorable mentions. Id die for a new Descent. Crimson Skies....
    Sim - Mechwarrior 2 and its expansions.
    Space Sim: Freespace - Another great series that needs to be revisited.
    RTS: Total Annihilation all the way, Supreme Commander was great, but not TA great. The hundreds of units you could have in TA made tactics very different among players.
    Fighter: Soul Calibur series
    MMORPG: The first two years of WOW, after that it got old. Rift is probably the next best MMO ive played. I did enjoy Anarchy Online back in the day too.
    Crossover games(games that fit multiple catagories)- Deus Ex, Thief, Omnikron.
