Been meaning to post about this one for a bit now. As many of you know I am not so big on big box releases. Too expensive, too many sequels, too many Online MP Shooters for my likes. So I tend to scour the digital download selections across XB360, PSN, Wii, and Steam.
Well I found a gem on PSN.
One of my biggest beefs this gen is a lack of quality action rpgs, and no Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Fable and Dragon Age do not count in my book. Besides those games have that big box flavor and are unabashed vehicles for selling DLC.
I, like most every one else, is waiting for Diablo III. But in the wait leading up to that a few games have proven to be great fillers. Tourchlight and Titan Quest both come to mind.
Now we can add Dungeon Hunters for PSN to that list.
This game is fantastic. 4 player couch co-op, 4 player online. 3 classes to play, each with a diverse skill tree(I heal - mage, while my wife tanks - war). Varied stages and enimies. Really impressive bosses. Graphics that aim to please.
I was watching my kids play Gears 3 this weekend, and while they loved it, I was amazed at how few colours the game has. Every stage has a base clor - brown, grey, white, etc, and all of them looked truely washed out. There is more color in a NES game. A true sign that the hardware is trying to do more then it should. Colors are like framrates, if you don't have enough, your game becomes unapealing, imo.
I mentiom that because the colors in Dungeon Hunters pop. They are vibrant and moody, very cool.
The game is very well thought out and exicuted. Best of all its lots of fun to play if you enjoyed games like Diablo and Tourchlight. I have been waiting for a Champions of Norath on PS3 all gen, this is prolly going to be as close to it as we get. And honestly the play mechanics are better then champs anyways.
The game runs you 12.99usd and has a free demo for you to try before pulling the trigger. If you do pick up the game, let me know, I'd be happy to join you in a game.
