Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded, the free Unreal Engine 3 remake of the good old Duke Nukem 3D, has been put on hold. The reason for this is that the developers (Interceptor Entertainment), has run into a stalemate with Gearbox over the Duke Nukem license. Even though Interceptor Entertainment has been given a license to create this game, there is apparently some disputes. There is hope however, it has been said that if the license disputes are resolved, Interceptor Entertainment would happily finish the game, but until then, don't get your hopes up, it's a Duke game, you have to wait for it!

"We don't have a problem with a media blackout - But when the license doesn't secure us a release, we can't justify spending so much time with the development, knowing that it might never see the light of the day.
That decision is not ours - Its Gearbox Softwares."
I can't say I blame Interceptor, if their reasoning for not continuing is that they remain susceptible to the outcome of a lot of fan projects, that ultimately they may never be released. :(
It's disappointing that they reached such an impasse, though, because it would be cool to revisit today, DN3D in the way that they intended with the advances and lessons since the original's release and a way to present a modern interpretation, not of Duke, but Duke Nukem 3D.
I hope they can get back on track, although the tone of the posts make it sound like, if Gearbox aren't open to resolving the cause of the disagreement, Interceptor are set on pursuing "other projects".Posted 1 year ago # -
Ultimately Gearbox have an investment to protect, even if a new version of Duke Nukem 3D would probably be awesome, I don't see how they can cooperate or sign off on anything before they see the quality of the finished product.
That's an accepted risk for any developer, unless they own the property and they're putting it out themselves.
