Remember what I said Grim, being excited about this game = more love from me. ;)
I have to say my excitement ebbs and flows with this game. Some weeks it's the one thing I'm most excited for and others I just think it's going to be a fail.
I really hope it isn't though. I do think it has great potential to be successful. Even though it is another MMO, we might see a lot more players try it due to the nature of the universe (being more sci-fi over fantasy) and the fact that it claims to be very driven be story (I guess more so than others but obviously remains to be seen).

I've wanted to like this and having played it a few times, it does have some nice bits. But given that its been in development for SO long and is essentially bringing nothing new to the MMO table kind of annoys me. Bioware are playing it far too safe and I just cant see its long term appeal.
And yes - 'story' is a PR bullshit term used for the word 'grind'. So I wish they would just admit it. By throwing in voice and some cut scenes in to the traditional 'go fetch me xxx amount of Slug claws from the Sith Temple' doesnt make for much of a story.

True, it might not add much to "story" but I don't think you can deny that it will certainly add an aspect to how some people will play the game, rather than the usual click-don't-read-accept routine that most MMO players are used to.
Personally, I'm not against what I guess will soon be considered the "classic" style of MMOs. I think the format, for what it is, works very well. With that said, I'm not sure what innovation's there are that could really make huge differences to the MMO scene.
I mean, a lot of people are looking to GW2 as something that will be changing the face of MMOs but I don't quite see how. It still looks extremely MMO-tastic in collecting quests and killing mobs. Albeit in a very beautiful setting, with a lot more interactional combat.

I think more interactive combat is the key. In Star Wars, lightsabers cut everything to pieces but in SWTWoW that just isnt the case. Why shouldnt a trooper die in just 1 swing of a lightsaber? I guess that just wouldnt be 'heroic'.
And if you look closely at the 'story' elements, if you are playing in a group of tits, someone could spoil the result as a random roll of the dice is made to select the person who 'speaks' or selects the response. This is going to cause many arguements I feel

Well technically in the case of the Old Republic time era, they still use vibroblades that can withstand lightsabers, and that's due to the cortosis weave (thanks Wookiepedia and KOTOR).
The reason you see more free lightsaber slashing in, say, the films for instance, is because after the Jedi civil war there was generally a lot less Jedi and Sith around and so the frequency of cortosis-weaved weapons and armour dropped dramatically. This was also due to the rarity and expense of cortosis ore. I'm mainly going off what I have seen in KOTOR and read on Wookiepedia here. ;)
I'm still curious about the story and conversion aspects of the game. I assume that the times when grouped and other can choose what happens, will be like regular dungeons that can be run again. It wouldn't make any sense for me to have one chance at seeing the dialog option I want and then missing it because people choose something else

Ah but imagine how pissed off you would be if say you were a Republic tart, doing *vomits* good all over the galaxy and you are building up your lightside points. Then in a dungeon(god, this is SWTWoW) someone wins the roll and decides to kill XXX - so you will get darkside points for that.
Clearly, it remains to be seen if you can balance this and I am sure you probably will be able to but if what Bioware say is true that your history in playing the game can determine NPC's reactions to you, it could become an issue for players later in the game.

I'm pretty sure they have said that isn't how it works. You will gain points, if not more so, based on your decision alone. Like if they all choose the "bad" option and you choose the "good" option, you will still get the light side points. The only thing you don't get is the light side story outcome convo / dialog / cut scene.
And I don't think it's fair to say it's a WoW clone because of dungeons / instances. That's pretty much a staple of MMOs and the best way for players to group up for content. I would like to see some open-world public quests; I think Rift showed that this can be done in a way that is popular, fun and rewarding.
