I only just realised that Call of Juarez: The Cartel is coming out this month. I just went on zero punctuation (escapist) to watch another review (not seriously mind just for the (hate to say it) lols) and there was one of those pre-video ads for COJ. Therein it said that Cartel was coming out on the 22nd or something like that.
I've been quite loosely following this game with some extremely vague and unexcited interest. But still a small amount of interest to see how it'll turn out. I've seen next to nothing for this game and with the release date so close my warning lights are definitely flashing. It looks like a low funded stab at trying to milk a bit extra cash out the dying brand. Shame might potentially had a chance at being half-decent. Then again, I say that about most rubbish games.
What the hell? (Call of Juarez)

Who knows maybe I'm wrong maybe it will be good. In fact anyone know of any reviews yet? Whats the overall feeling you've gotten from the previews. I haven't seen any so don't really know what to think.

I think there are a few reviews knocking about for it. I think it's getting a bit slated.

I played both the previous games and they just never got it quite right.
then RDR came along and bum fucked their concept in terms of quality, so they backed out and tried a modern game, and didn't get it quite right...

Red Dead was the best and worst thing for the wild west genre in gaming. I mean, it obviously showed how much people like a good western and how good the stories can be, but on the other hand, how the fuck do you follow that?

As far as games in a western setting go, Red Dead Redemption was far from perfect. It can definitely be beaten.
The towns weren't very convincing at all in my opinion, the "random" (scripted) encounters were kind've lame and repetitive, the minigames didn't blend in well enough with the world, the game was kind've brief (especially for an open-world game) with very little to do outside of the main storyline, etc.

I found the first game stale and got annoyed by the second since it just blatantly rehashed the story from the first game. i had no interst in this and looks like i called it right

RDR isn't perfect, but it's waaaaaaaay better than Call of Juarez imo.
When you think Western shootout you have this image of guys taking cover behind rocks/wagions, building etc, shooting 12 million bullets and mostly missing, so the cover system is a must, CoJ didn't have one and the CoJ:BiB cover system was garbage on consoles, RDR got it right by having a good cover system imo.
I liked RDR, but I hate that Rockstar do these big "open world" games where you can supposedly go where you want/do what you want, then they fire in this completely rigid linear story line where actually you have absolutely no say in what happens in the slightest other than the fairly trivial option to do missions in a fairly random order at times.
If I start up a brand new RDR game today it'll be near identical to my 1st one except the order I do crap in and the fact that I won't play a single game of horse shoes cus I got the achievement for that and that minigame is garbage.
Next time let me run away with Bonnie McFarlane at the end and shoot Abigail in the face, because that's what I wanted to do :D
Although at least RDR doesn't trick you into playing nearly the exact same game twice (except for I believe 2 missions) by having 2 playable characters. In CoJ Ray and Billy had completely unique missions that alternated, in BiB you choose between Ray and Thomas and they play the exact same freakin missions but with very slightly different skills. Yeah, that was fun. Not.

@Suikoden Fan
Yeah I had the first one and it was exactly like you said. Never played GUN heard a few people say it was good though, suggest it?Posted 1 year ago # -
Right, I played the game for a few hours now and I have to say: It´s getting better and better! At first,I thought it was pretty horrible and there is some weird dazzling effect which sucks pretty much. But later on, the missions are quite cool and I like some of the gameplay ideas like the "Team Cover". So, I´d say it´s not bad, but nothing more than mediocre. And I have the feeling the development was rushed, there are lots of script bugs and dialog repeating after a cutscene etc.

@Noodlemanny
GUN was actually a pretty good game I thought.
That was in 2006 though, when RDR was just a twinkle in Rockstar's eye mind you :)

Yeah I really enjoyed RDR but there were many down points meaning it wasn't quite my GOTY. Stuff like money was basically useless and nothing really posed any massive challenge... Apart from bears... Sitting in those woods and BAM your SOOOOOOOOO screwed...
I would have really liked to fall over when you get shot like everyone else does. Would have gotton annoying though.I thoroughly love Natural Motion's euphoria, it was awesome in GTA4 (in a get run over kind of way), shooty fun in RDR, and tackle fun in Backbreaking. Its not always prefect and occasionally does weird glitches but it still looks almost completely realistic and in some cases is completely convincing.

I just picked up Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood for $6, not knowing what to expect, although $6 is awesome even if just for the trophies. It's... interesting, I guess. A lot of it reminds me of Red Dead, but there's just something about it that bugs me.
