last year i would of thought this year would be good but every single game ive brought has been complete garbage im at a state where im playing black ops and i the only game ive kept this year is operation flashpoint red river and i think thats a shite game aswell
so i was wondering am i the only one or does anyone else think this years games have been rubbish compared to last years?
I think part of the issue is that hype is now seen as not just a marketing tool but the most important marketing tool.
gaming exec 1: "should we invest time and money into producing a decent game demo which will give our customers a reasonable expectation of what our product actually is?"
gaming exec 2: "Hell no, we shall instead invest even more time and money into building a gigantic marketing hype train! The old saying is not true, one can polish a turd! I saw it on Mythbusters, now get shining!"
gaming exec 1: "kerching!"
This year hasn't lived upto my expectations thus far. I was expecting it to be the next 2002 for gaming, but so far it's struggling to even beat 2010. :| The Witcher 2 and Shogun 2 were decent, but not exactly "best of all time" standard... and everything else (for me) has been somewhat disappointing.
Hopefully that'll change with Skyrim, BF3, Forza 4 and Dark Souls.
Jesus, I thought that this has already been a legend year for gaming, and the best is yet to come. I mean, we've had:
Infamous 2, Portal 2, Dead Space 2, Crysis 2, The Witcher 2, Pixeljunk Shooter 2, El Shaddai and Heavy Rain.
Now, considering that that's the shit half of this year's games, that's pretty fucking god-damned good.
Yet to come is Skyrim, Uncharted 3, Batman 2, Dark Souls, Deus Ex 3, Child of Eden, Skyward Sword, the Ico/Colossi HD rerelease and a new Kirby game. I am absolutely fucking stoked for this year's gaming goodness.
Not Heavy Rain, I meant L.A. Noire. Soz.
LA Noire, LBP2, Infamous 2, Portal 2, KZ3... Cant say i agree. And with Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Skyrim, Twisted Metal, BF3, Resistance 3, Gears 3 and more to come i definitely dont agree.
No doubt the people that find this year "boring" are people who only own a single platform.

@gekidaml i do own a ps3 and i have brought killzone 3 its fun but gets boring real fast only game im looking forward to this year is skyrim and gears of war 3
Can't say single console owners are the only ones bored. I only own ps3 and haven't been bored at all. Then again I've also been busy with my wife son and it classes so maybe you just have to much spare time?

only games ive enjoyed are la.noire, infamous2 and portal2
Portal 2 is the best game I've played in years, and The Witcher 2 easily blows away any RPG since the original Mass Effect in my book.
Duke was alright, Crysis 2 was alright, LA Noire was alright, Atom Zombie Smasher and Magicka were good fun. Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy is getting great grades.
On the other hand, Brink is the biggest disappointment I've had in years.
On the horizon you have Deus Ex: HR, Saints Row 3, Deathspank: The Baconing, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3.
I think it's safe to say that people are getting served.
LOLshock94, I have found that the older a gamer gets the more jaded and selective a gamer can get. Its like Movies and TV shows, you just don't enjoy all of the same kinds as you used to.
This whole gen is been lackluster imo. I think it just dragging on too long. And I think will so many game engines being used by so many games, and given the graphic fidelity we have achived, alot of the games look and feel the same as one another.
Show me a racer with a Dodge Viper, and the car is going to look and handle much the same in each game. Any real world track(and most serious racers have em) are going to look and feel the same. the result is that if you pick up Forza or GT or even something less simlike, your going to be getting very similer experiences.
And truth is the same type of things can be said of almost every genere out there, not just racers.
I sat down with the Wii today, played Metroid other M, and was quickly reminded of how awesome something a bit different(w/o trying to be different just for the sake of being different) can be. This game is fantastic fun.
But yea I agree with you, alot of games in recent memory have disapointed me. Thats why I rent here and there, helps the feeling burned thing.

To be honest ive spent most of this year playing older titles... Ive given up playing games on release and started playing games I WANT to play:

Homefront Mar 11 just to see what the fuss was

All these games were re-plays, sometimes I enjoy a game better 2nd time through.
Im still ploding along with L.A. Noire and my little brother has just started AC: Brotherhood and likes to get all competitive with the achievements so I might start that tonight, although F.E.A.R 3 is calling me....

I think it says a lot about this years games when people are getting more excited over HD remakes of older *classics*, than the new releases tbh.
