Bioware wants to know how YOU play Dragon Age!(8 posts)
How do you play DA, and do you feel the gameplay needs improving. The chance is here now, to deposit your tuppence.
You work for Bioware or something??
If you put anything other than Not Important for "Intimate relationships and Romance" then I don't want to know you.
Its one of the prime reasons the most recent Bioware titles have been so fucking bad. If they spent more time actually working on the games instead of stress testing dialogue wheels to chat up NPCs they might not have ended up being the mess they were.
No Chunky, but I have noticed plenty of complaints about how DA (II in particular) has been, so here they are asking for feedback to improve. If you would say that you really don't like something, and they then ask how you'd prefer things to be and you ignore it, then what was the use in asking them for something else?
The more responses, the greater spread of opinion can be seen by Bioware. I like Dragon Age, and I think it could have a bright future, if they can get a winning design behind the games. Answering the survey may help that to happen.
The romance is just a small piece of what's wrong with it though. It's all about making it "look good" or making commands "smoother" which is devspeak for "dumbing shit down".
The greatest thing you can have in a combat-oriented RPG is the sense that you're controlling a fight and outsmarting your enemies. Dragon Age just threw that on the floor.
For some reason Bioware are great at getting it right the first time and then when it's time to follow up, it all goes to hell.
How do I play Dragon Age (Origins)?
With great anticipation, until the game actually gets started and then trying to ignore the ugly graphics (checks the box to confirm the game was made in 2009, not 2006) but thinking that's no big deal.
Then finding it strange that the voice acting is a little rough, considering Bioware's past work, but it's adequate enough. Sort of.
So continuing to play for 7.5 hours hoping that the battle system will get better. It has to. I must be missing something.
It didn't. I wasn't.
Then by trying to sell it back to 3 different used game salesmen and having them all guffaw heartily when they see its cover and refuse.
Then banishing it to the back of my game collection behind less embarrassing titles like Dark Sector and Binary Domain so I don't have to see it or be reminded of how incredibly disappointing it was.
That's how I play Dragon Age, Bioware. That's how.
Before I start with DA0-1 and 2
I would like to start with DA3 recent video where the Qunari is bashing an enemy. The Qunari animation is interesting with an arc of motion that appeals to younger audience (not necessarily me) yet I am opened to it. Although when the Qunari bashes the AI enemy carrying a tower shield down to China then it turned me blue then green in disgust with a first reaction that said "is this what they have to do to get more people playing DA3, are they going to turn the game for 8~12 years old with such quick release that any youngster female would just slap their male boyfriend counterpart in the face saying I am not a whore?"
I am sorry but it is nonetheless true!
It has varied settings, LOTS of VARIED settings. Some are narrow, small, closed, others are opened, vast, and may seem empty if taken alone but overall it helped me BREATH because I don't just stay in same place or go back to the same place for 50 hours.
It has much more intricate and open-ended story line and choices, whether emotional or group strategy oriented.
Complexity of battle system is more ADEQUATE for SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF!!! You guys found somewhat a good balance with DA then just melt it, dumbed it down, and I could imagine Bioware saying Voila... it's better. NO it is NOT better, it is just stupid and infantile to dumb a mechanic down that works and works very well. DA players are not 6 years old, if anything go back to DA mechanics! and I mean ALL game mechanics!
Finally I don't have anything against GAY people and I have gay friends but having the opportunity to play gay DOES NOT make me attracted to the game at all!
Now the good part with DA 2, it was a tad more aesthetic, especially with lighting but since DA 2 basically remains in 1 area then and again it is hard to gauge anything.
