Since I bought Borderlands GOTY it came with First Access to the Duke Nukem Forever Demo. Today I just got my code and played through it.

I won't give away any spoilers.

It basically lets you play a section where you battle a boss, get to pick up poo and write on a Dry Erase Board.

The Other section is driving a car and running and gunning and some rail car play.

The game and content has not aged well. The feel of the weapons is underwhelming, and everything has a High Wet Polished look to it, even the rocks.

This game feels, looks, and plays like an old title.

In my case, it is where Nostalgia and Memories made the game out better then it is, and so I went in with very High Expectations came away very disappointed.

It really feels like a Serious Sam HD game, fun and easy to pick up at first, but quickly becomes boring, even with Poo throwing and urination and the stale one liners.

I am sure Serious Hard Core Dukies will rave about this game, but sadly this was a case of where memories were better then the actual play of the game.

I will cancel my Pre-Buy, and then pick it up at a Price it should be, $20 US. Having this type of game priced at $65 US and paying that is Crazy!!

I actually thought it was a lot better than I expected.

It's probably because it's a demo, but the difficulty was far more challenging than I would've imagined it to be. If you don't use cover and time your reloads, you're going down. It plays much like Half-Life 2, but with regenerating health.

It does look old, but it doesn't look as old as you'd expect to. It does have the grainy wet feel, but it's nothing that really stands out compared to things like LA Noire.

To me the best quality is the big and broad shitgrin it puts on your face. Just from the horrible intro, you're reliving the glory days of games, where game designers listened to absolutely no one, except their perverted, corny, irreverent gamers. If your parents want to ban it, let them try.

If you don't have a sense of humor, though, stay well away.

Just one question: Is it playable?

Or there are some serious bugs (well 12 f***ing years in development)?

It's a very short demo. There's barely room for bugs. Very playable.

Screw 360 and PS3, I'd prefer to play it on my PC. I wonder if there are any torrents for it on PC.

I am a "Nub" at some, but I prefer FPS's, so I tend to do very well..though forget about Online..I truly Suck playing online against ppl, even in Pinball, just ask OlderGamer..LOL.

The Gun Shots on Dukie..seem to be like a kid going "phew phew" with a gun..the sound quality of the weapons is atrocious.

Ok, it is Dukie..so I didn't expect much..but just a tad more then I got with the Demo. I will Buy it, but no Way at $65 USA...

Since I am..hrm hrm years old.. the younger kids of this gen, definitely skool me...but pull out Atari 2600 or Coleco Vision I will skool them...LOL

As far as Cheese...Hmmmm Let me go get my Box Set of Invader Zim..and check to local colloquialism..LOL

I don't think this is a case of memories or nostalgia remembering the game being better. Duke Nukem has been a blast since day 1. I think calling it a Serious Sam game was a low blow. Serious Sam completely ripped off Duke Nukem 3D. The problem is with the game industry. See, we have been spoiled when it comes to games. They pack SOOOO much content in these days that the games we grew up with, i.e. Duke Nukem, Quake, Doom, are now bland. It's not that the games were not good, they just don't hold our attention as well because they are not bombarding our every sense with something innovative. The thing I love so far about DNF is that they didn't try to make it something else. Yes, the sounds and gameplay are NOT realistic. It's Duke Nukem FFS, it's not supposed to be realistic. It's supposed to be over-the-top and ridiculous and campy, that's what makes it so great.

I for one WILL be buying it. It's something the game industry has had a lack of the past several years. It's fun just by being fun! I understand this will sound like a dick head statement, and I don't mean it to be, so please don't take it that way. But if you want realistic sounds and graphics, stick to Battlefield. If you want to remember your high school days and revisit the ridiculousness of the originals, pick this one up.

Haha Yeah definitely agree its not worth the 60$ price tag if anything I will wait when the game is 5$. I will also wait until Gearbox makes a sequel that is done purely by them. They should have just put it out as a XBL game or PSN because it is sooooo not worth 60$. Maybe 10 years ago but not in todays age.

I have seen work by students in my school that have done far better and a lot more funnier than this game and they did it with little to no money out of their pocket. Makes you wonder if 3D realms was just taking 2k money and doing what they want with it.

Hey I didn't talk about the "Shrink Ray Gun"...ooppss!!! LOL

I was just being General...not giving details of what you could do with the Poop..LOL

I wish the Sounds in the Game were OVER the Top..they are not..the Sound Design is TERRIBLE...not talking about the soundtrack..talking guns and such.

Since Dukie is OVER the TOP I wanted the Xbox to Rumble so hard when I shot a Rocket Launcher that it rattled my TEETH...or the Poop to make a NICE Squishy sound..not a meek little lamb sound..LOL

The Serious Sam comment was about the REMAKE...before I knew it was only going to be HD..I thought they were doing a REMAKE..not just making it HD.

I do think Serious Sam is a Rip Off of Dukie..same as Postal..only Postal took it way further!!

Compared to FPS's today...this is a Budget Title..and NO way should have been priced at $65 US.

I really want it..but June has a TON of games coming out and there is no way I will spend $65 on Dukie when there are much better titles out this month.

They should have either picked a Slow month with hardly or no games coming out or priced it at a budget price no higher then $40 US. IMHO

Where is it costing $65 US? I haven't seen it this high. It's $44.49 US on steam right now. Pick it up there. That's what I'm doing.

See, that's a problem with console games. The video game companies charge far more for the console version of a game that is almost always inferior to the PC version. Not all game are released on both PC and consoles, but the shooters are always inferior to the PC versions, and PC titles cost less. I prefer to pay less and play with a mouse and keyboard.

I understand PC gaming is expensive in the long run, with upgrading and all. But those that don't have the money to stay upgraded shouldn't be punished for having to pay more for a game that would ultimately look better on a PC. It's rubbish.

I thought the sounds were fine. The big machinegun sounded especially great. I don't see how it stands out in any way.

There's no mistaking how old the game looks and feels, but it's not as if it's worse than Half-Life 2 in any way.

Actually I'd say it feels even better with all the gags and scripting.

Console buyers pay one flat fee and don't need to upgrade anymore from that point unless you need a new HD but even that can take a while. I have 80GB HD and I still haven't filled it up 2/3rds. SO its still cheaper than the PC version in the long run with all the upgrading to make it "look good"

BTW DNF may be 44$ on steam but the console version always go down in price and usually cheaper than the PC version depending on the retailer and publisher but still. Prototype for example I could go to Gamestop get it for 15$ while people that want the PC version have to pay 30$.

I understand. It's like I was saying, when a game comes out, console gamers get screwed on the price, but the trade-off comes with hardware costs. I for one will be buying it, but that's because A) I love Duke Nukem, and B) I have a friend on the Gearbox development team. It's the same reason I picked up Borderlands.

I also know someone that works at Gearbox but thats not a reason why I would get Duke. Its not their work its 3d realms that has been polished and fixed. Its a god awful game by todays standard and doesn't deserve that full game price whether it is the PC/console version. Would say 10-15$ would be the mark. I have seen DLC games for 10$ that offer more comedy and actual gameplay than DNF.

Since I don't have a Computer that can run this, I only Netbook..I have been test running OnLive..and I like what I see, so I think I will get it for OnLive..you buy the game at $44.99 and get the OnLive Console and Controller for free...and now that Membership is Free...I am willing to bite!

I own both ps3 & PC, everything you are saying is utter shit mate, you can build a PC for about £400 = $600 which can play most games in full HD and good textures compared to 360/ps3, the only reason I own a ps3 (which i only got at xmas) is for the playstation IP's that I love, back from the PS1/2 days.

Oh and your argument on prices is utter crap, why don't you get a steam account at Xmas and see the prices of games... you're a noob.

Before you "Buy" it understand that with Onlive you are paying to lease the game for 3 years. SO if you want to replay it and that 3 years is up you have to pay for the new price once again.

Also make sure you are using internet speed that has more than 3MB otherwise the quality of the game goes down by a lot.

WTF are you talking about LOUNDS did I ever mention anything downplaying the PC no I didn't I mention the price difference. Steam does offer discounts and such but that is only when they are going. Prototype on steam is 30$ where for amazon its:

With the PC you have to keep it updated which can hit you for 200$ for a budget card every 2 years where the Console like the PS3 I have paid 400$ and not paid for anything besides games for it. My PC which I have upgraded myself over the years has been so far about 2k altogether (thats with me buying it and upgrading) with multiple new GPU, PSU and Ram. THats why there is an appeal to console its plug in and play no messing with hardware, no paying for some person to do the work for you, no wondering why your new GPU is not working, no faulty installation.

I am a heavy PC user, I have to be with my degree with making levels with UDK or using 3D studio Max so I have to know the software and hardware part of a PC, where the average Joe doesn't. My computer has to be the top of its game or takes forever to render all my work and I can't have that time is money.

It was an example Lounds. I am not saying I want to play or have it on the PC because I have already played and owned it and traded it in.

I prefer playing on the PC because its easier to accesss, also allows me to mod games if need be along with the obvious better looking games. I own a PS3 and 360 because if there is a particular game I want to play exclusives usually I have access to those. Along with the PS3 being a Bluray player.

I think it would be interesting to hear what people who didn't like the demo actually thought it should be like.

To me it just seems very true to the original, even if it is outdated. It's not really more or less than what I expected, just a middle of the road shooter with lots of gags.
