No. I really don't see it as that much of a problem. Changing account info only takes a couple of minutes and I deleted all credit card information as soon as they release PSN cards.

They didn't protect our private information.
They protected the initial console but didn't plan for Geohotz to circumvent their only real defense which was a poor assumption on Sony's behalf & now hundreds, maybe thousands of dicks may have our information.
-This was why Sony sued GeoHot, he broke their security & were forced to update their network encryption but that obviously hasn't worked so now they're rebuilding it.
Ok a few things are facts right now:
1. Sony might be sued to bankruptcy
2. Our information have been compromised
3. This is going to be a long, heavy fix
But I don't think we should take that "hacker log" to heart that they didn't encrypt the information. If hackers can break into the FBI network and steal information, they can break into the PSN and steal our information. This is the flimsy nature of internet based business. Steam can be hacked just as easily if a team dedicated to trying.
Now I'm not saying that the situation is not fucked up. It is very fucked up. I'm just bugged about the fact that all of a sudden everyone starts pointing fingers at Sony and forgot that it was hackers that started all this.

No and I completely understand your concern and point. I only put a credit card with 1000 dollars limit on all my online accounts for this very reason, but I know people that put like 3-4 thousand dollar CCs on PSN. There is a lot to fear from Cyber Crime, but really if they wanted money they wouldn't have hacked PSN.
There are much better targets for this kind of stuff like Ebay or Facebook to steal personal information. I think we need to all just calm down and take the necessary precautions. Truth be told, there are plenty of people that have our personal information. Otherwise, we wouldn't be getting those "penis enlargement" or "you won a free trip" emails and phone calls.
If Sony really is incompetent, they'll be sued to bankruptcy and prosecuted. But until all the facts come out we should just deal with ourselves first.
Oh..don't get me wrong, I am not "attacking" Sony. I just know when the dust settles, Sony will be the One Sued for not keeping our information safe on the PSN.

Sony Saves your Credit Card on File without asking you if you want this or not. I always say, don't save credit card on sites, and try to place orders as a guest, and never signed in, that way the Credit Card is "Supposed" to not be saved..but who knows??
If you REQUIRE this, then you do open yourself up to problems like this!
Yes, I will. But only if it is found that Sony could have taken steps to avoid this mess in the first place. And if people do indeed become victims of id theft and lose their bank accounts/saving etc - thne this could well be the end for Sony.
What steps are you taking, Oldergamer? Have you checked your card details? Have you spoken to your bank? There are a number of things each person can do if they are genuinely concerned. Your security is as much your responsibility as anyone elses.
As for this topic: No, I won't. I don't believe in the blame = claim argument - it's greedy, it's exploitative and it gives people an excuse to avoid addressing their own standards because they're so busy arguing about someone elses. I have taken steps to protect my information and spoken to my bank. I have not immersed myself in hysteria and finger-pointing.
In my experience acting in a responsible manner and applying common sense tends to prevail.
I would prefer sony do it without this kind of action i mean they compesate the affected users as soon as everything is solve, also it will be also good that after all this sony compensate the other s users too but i think that will be unrealistic.
Having said that i also rather prefer that we gamers join in order to change the laws that rules the electronics devices, in order to give more legal advantages to users, it will be a longer lasting process but i think it will be worth it.
Kerplunk i agree with what you said, but also keep in mind that in this case sony should had said since first day of the PSN shutdown any information regarding the breach of the integrity of our accounts, they didnt do it, the first message we users have , said that it was for maintenance purpuses and later on they sated the PSN system were breach by external people, therefore making it public later on that the accounts maybe were affected and also keep in mind they didnt even know it for certain, though is their system, when maybe all the damage is done, leave the users little room to act the way you rightly put it.

Too soon to do much of anything except making a few phone calls. Just saying that IF(maybe you missed that part), IF Sony could have taken steps that they did not take, then yes I feel Sony should be held accountable for damages.

No I won't, its pointless to sue them. I don't know what standard your talking about on you must have a card on file. I don't ever remember sony saying that. I remember them asking me if id like to save my card info. Not I must have it.
I don't have anything to worry about because I took my card info down a while ago. To stop myself from conviently buying games. I also remember all card information being encrypted except last 4 digits for verification. So I don't feel they are responsible. I feel that atleast gave a standard of security and didn't leave my stuff wide open.
If someone trys to steal my identity I will simply find and prosecute them.

Not necessarily. The barn door may be open, but you don't know for certain if your horse has escaped or not.
You can sit around and say "Someone should really close that barn door, you know" or you can do something for yourself. You don't have to shrug and act like a helpless victim. If you check your accounts and check activity you will already know if you have been compromised. If you don't then you won't. If you haven't been compromised (and I sincerely hope nobody has) then good for you. Either way you should contact your bank immediately.
You have absolutely nothing to lose by acting NOW. Doing nothing only increases your personal risk.

Unless authorized in person, I don't believe that you can take over a bank account. They, however, can max the shit out of your credit card. Hopefully people put a low credit one like I did or just go and cancel it ASAP.

No I won't why because I don't want the 10 lawyers that will be in the case getting paid more money than anyone and then the one person who filed the claim getting the rest while everyone else gets 10$ that you have to wait 6 months to actually receive. No Sony did all they could people are just jumping on the sue happy bandwagon. If people were so concerned they would go to one of the credit bureau and put fraud alert, look at their activity, call your bank or CC company and ask for a new card. Sitting on your hands bitching about it while you can just as easily stop them before someone does anything is moronic and childish.

a month ago on a newsmedia I believe it was MSN they had shown how easy it was to get your information through Netlix, Gamefly, Facebook, the programmer if he wanted to he said he could find out everyones SS# I don't see you bitching about them.

Really I just tie everything to a credit card because with CC if there are fradualent charges you can have the company stop them and investigate them where for a debit card there are laws and policy stating the bank doesn't have to so I don't use my debit card for Online stuff. Also never the same password, username, email, security question for those sites and they are definitly not linked to handles like this one.
Hell no. Sony DID NOTHING WRONG. Companies get hacked into all the time and most of them don't even let us know. Sony told us well in advanced that the PSN was hacked into, even if they didn't know the extent of it yet. It is your own dumb fault if you assumed that the hacking of the PSN wouldn't affect your personal information.
Anyway....I know the vast majority of online retailers ask for the security code on the back of your CC or DC, depending on which you use, and those sites do not keep those. They can buy things from a retailer...but they can't return those and get money for it, it will go back on the card. Everyone...I atleast would hope, has a decent ATM PIN that would be a little challenging to crack.
This event is not something to take lightly at all, just actually think about what you are saying when you think Sony should pay for this.
