So, I just finished the game, the ending was interesting because to me it ruled out a sequel but I have this strange feeling there will be. What do you guys think?

It seemed too serene and peaceful to be set at the same time as Half Life 2 to be honest. Seems like Chell's story might be over though. Dunno really where they thought they could go with it but I imagine they've not just finished the game without thinking where to go next.
It's not at the same time as Half-Life 2 is it? I thought it was set a few hundred years in the future. Valve's writing team are masters at their craft and I imagine they've got lots of ideas for Portal 3.
The ending is kinda peacefull to be honest. I think Chells story is Over.
Or maybe not, but i really wish they could continue the series just outside of Aperture science laboratory.
I think Chell is done. She is free. What can you expect from her?
" I thought it was set a few hundred years in the future. "
No. It's not. It's at the same time as Half-Life 1-2
But if Portal is set during the Combine invasion and Portal 2 is set hundreds of years after surely it would be after HL2?
I'm surprised no-one has brought up the portal on the moon. Too extreme? Yes/No? Discuss :P.
No, because it created a very funny ending
So, who else got the "missing experiment" achievement? I think a lot of people will have missed it, and it was the only real tie to the HL universe.
Also, I was under the impression that Portal 1 took place around the time of HL1 and Portal 2 takes place around the time of HL2.
@freedoms_stain, i found it. Honestly i don't see any reference there.
Or i'm missing something?
@Erth, If I say "The Borealis" and point out that the "Missing Experiment" cheev pops in what appears to be an empty ship dry-dock, would that mean anything to you?
Isn't Episode 3 supposed to be on the Borealis at some point?
Well, In Ep2 Judith Mossman sends a transmission to the resistance, she hides extra info in the carrier wave which contains a video and info on the location of a ship called "The Borealis" which is an Aperture Science research vessel. The scientists all seem very impressed that the ship has been found and believe the contents of the ship could be pivotal.
A lot of people thought that Portal may have taken place on board The Borealis, but Portal 2 effectively shit-canned that theory.
I think the dry-dock in Portal 2 is where The Borealis was built.
@freedoms_stain, that? Well yes. Now i got it.
i think Portal 1 is right after the events of HL1.... and Portal 2 is during the events of Half-Life 2 , 1-2.
Portal 3 and Half-Life 2 ep3 will have some sort of tie in in HL2EP3.
I imagine episode 3 would tie in with episode 3 :P
I've seen concept and it seems that Episode 3 takes place on the Borealis and Gordon Freeman fights advisor's. I wonder how the gameplay will adapt when it comes to fighting them?
Another question: What do you guys think of the ending song. The melody is better than Still Alive's but the lyrics aren't
The song just didn't seem much like a song this time to be honest. It was the chorus that really helped the first song and they just went for a few verses this time instead of including a chorus. Hence why the song was a bit rubbish and forgettable.
Oh, it does have a chorus, I guess I was just not paying much attention.
I enjoyed the game. I have to admit something I never found Half Life to be such a great series, I know I am bad. But for the game there is potential for future games maybe using atlas and p body not sure. I felt in the middle part when you feel in the hole and was trying to get back up it dragged a bit especially when you had GlaDos and there was no talking this was the case for 2 hours for me. I was disappointed by that.
As far as the moon thing goes not sure what to say I know the Portal gun came from the idea of crushed moon dust but can you really make a portal go that far? Besides that bit I found the ending to be good. I am glad it didn't end with "cake is a lie" GlaDos kills you at the end. Now there is room for other things.
THe song not sure what to say Still ALive was original and new so of course that will have a place for me but as for the second song it can't bring that new feeling but I liked it and I was glad Emily got to do her Opera singing.
I would give the game a 9.5 and the - 0.5 would be from the loading felt like was back on the Xbox. Still Valve has original ideas and thats good getting sick of the generic games. Oh btw I love the tie in for P body and Atlas that was awesome.
Wheatley was fantastic, Steve Merchant is a genius.
@Phoenix
Wheatley really was fantastic, wasn't he. I've never had a character connection like that before! I absolutely loved him one minute, and then the next, (although he was absolutely hilarious throughout) I had a strange hatred towards him for his dastardly deeds towards me.
Absolutely brilliant voice acting by Steve Merchant and who-ever wrote the script deserves an oscar for it. Also gotta give my respect to J.K. Simmons as Cave Johnson, that guy is awesome.
@Phoenix The reason why you could shoot on the moon was because the white gel is made from crushed moon rocks not the portal gun.
I thought Stephen Merchant stole the show, he was perfect.
Having now completed co-op I think there's scope for a Portal 3, but not with Chell or Atlus and P-body.
@someguy
It said in the game that was where the development of the gun had started or at least thats what I understood.
Funniest game I´ve ever played and one of the best, too. Wheatley was just friggin awesome, actually all characters were.
I dunno if there´s going to be a "real" sequel, maybe a Portal 3 without Chell. Best thing would be a appearance of Chell in HL3 :D
One thing I don't understand is how you end up in some hotel room after the first one. One minute your at the surface then next your in this room. Was it explained in the comics?
Also I though the moon idea was cool and defiantly not something I would of thought of, it adds to the hole kinda out there amusing experience that is portal. As for paralleled to H/L it does say that you jump forward in time for an unknown presumably very long time, things have probably changed since half life 2.
@Phoenix Yeah I sort of agree. The whole time I had no idea what I was doing there it felt a little pointless. It was like they just put it there to add the orange and blue paint stuff into the single player game. Although it was interesting to see what was underneath everything and where Abstergo originated. Still I'd say the game was really good on both single and co-op, not much re-playability though.
@Noodlemanny Abstergo is Assassin's Creed. In Portal it's Aperture :P
@Noodlemanny
"One thing I don't understand is how you end up in some hotel room after the first one. One minute your at the surface then next your in this room. Was it explained in the comics?"
Yes it was explained in the comic where the Rat nest guy was deciding between leaving you on the surface for unknown time and low survival or put you in suspension state "hotel" with not knowing when you would wake up but high survival rate.
@Noodlemanny, Valve pushed an update to Portal a few months ago that changes the final cutscene. It's a very basic change, instead of just lying there and the screen fading Chell is dragged backwards by something robotic/motorised sounding, presumably back into the facility.
@freedoms_stain
I remember that but I didn't want to mention it because I wasn't 100% sure if thats what happened.
