   I know there are a number of Android users among the vg247 faithful, so I thought a wee discussion thread would be cool.

   Personally I'm running an original HTC Desire, only a year old but already ancient in the fast moving smartphone world. Took the plunge and decided to root and flash on a custom mod last week. Have to say, the cyanogenmod team have done a far better job of running Android on the Desire than HTC. Very impressed with what they've accomplished. I might try a Desire specific mod too just to see.

   If anyone is thinking about it rooting and flashing is an absolute piece of piss btw, and if your manufacturer or carrier is being slow in getting Android updates to you I'd say it's well worth it. I anticipate having 2.3 on my device within the next few weeks, fuck knows when or even if HTC will bother doing an official 2.3 rom for the Desire.

   Anyhoo, question for you : what browser do people prefer? I used Dolphin HD for ages but noticed that it it's pretty fat on the storage side, spent the weekend trying out various alternatives, so far Dolphin mini is the fore-runner.

   I love the Android OS, I think with enough support it could eventually replace Windows PC OS & tablets eventually replacing desktops & laptops. But this will be years, maybe even decades away.

   I have a galaxy S myself, running stock froyo with a Voodoo lagfix, I only got it few months ago so still trying out stuff before gettin a new custom rom

   I have an HTC Droid Incredible, and even though I like HTC sense, I could never go back to it after running Cyanogenmod 7. It has Android 2.3 and is sooo much smoother (I use LauncherPro instead of the included ADW Launcher).

   Christopher Jack: I feel exactly the same way you do. I sent my brother a well thought out email a while back about how Android has the potential to redefine the way people do general computing... I'm looking forward to that day.

   As for the browser I prefer, I haven't tested out the waters too much. I usually use the stock browser, but I started using Firefox once they put out the final release for 4. I like the syncing capabilities and it works way better than it used to.

   I just rooted my Desire. Been thinking about getting a custom ROM, probably Cyanogenmod, sounds like it's worth it. Getting sick and tired by the lack of internal memory.

   Cyanogenmod is cool (I'm still on 6, 7 isn't stable on the Desire yet)

   It's battery use has been a bit quirky for me, seems to burn a lot of battery with the screen on, but on light use days it runs way way WAY longer than the stock HTC rom did. Example, right now my phone has been unplugged for 20+hrs and I'm sitting at 62%, but I haven't really used it heavily in that time. Say screen-on time of <2hrs.

   Cyanogenmod is also way more functional than the HTC Sense rom, and way less bloat.

   Another mod to consider is Oxygen as it's Desire-specific. I'm thinking of giving it a shot before CM7 goes on stable release for the Desire (they're on RC4 now, so I imagine it's not too far away)
