Hear me out first. Please dont dismiss this right away, as i would never dismiss anything any of you would have to say (even Gadzooks!, i still read your comments but respect you enough not to reply to them as you have asked).
Seems here (there has been a few times where some have talked pretty harshly about people saying "I pray that Jesus be in there lives" or something like that. and that started the bad mouthing of Christians), and many other places on the internet, that Christians have a bad name going on for themselves. I can undestand because it doesnt help that some Christians in the real world have taken it upon themselves to act as if they are GOD, know everything about God, speak for god, and bad mouth others in the name of God...Which means they truly dont understand what it means t be Christian. I was reading through some of my saved literature/poems/sonets/notes and i found this. I dont remember who wrote it but i do know it sums up what a Christian is, a real Christian anyways. Hope you like it. If you choose to avoid it, thats cool too, just as long as i know its been shared.

When I say that 'I am a Christian', I am not shouting that 'I am clean living.
I'm whispering 'I was lost, but now I'm found and forgiven.'

When I say 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say 'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow!

Pretty is as Pretty does but, Beautiful is just plain Beautiful..
I'm supposed to share this with Beautiful People,
And Beautiful you all are.

Oooh, Religion... This isn't going to end well.

Personally I don't have any religious beliefs (I tend to think logically & not a single religion makes sense) but I do respect people & their beliefs but unfortunately there are many who don't & will react negatively towards it, millions die because of that (Israeli-Arab conflict), nations full of religious nuts killing each other over blind faith-My view on this? Keep it to yourself, in church & to those who share the same religious views.

Religion is supposed to give us a sense of purpose, what others would call faith, just don't take any of literally & our lives could be a heck of a lot better.

We humans are god, we have limitless potential, we can give & we can take life but internal conflict is holding us back. We have governments more interested on discrediting each other rather than moving forwards. We have nation at war for no reason at all, only excuses. We have corporations dominating our planet with the sole purpose of harvesting our own resources & sending poisonous gasses back into our atmosphere.
As long as all of this continues, we can only move sideways, never forwards, if we keep moving sideways we'll eventually drift backwards, things need to change & it starts with personal morales, we need more black & white & less shades of grey.

Good read man. I like it.
However, I should point out that the Christianity i am standing by is not a religion. There is no practice, specific prayers, rules, regulation, etc. The Christianity I am talking about is a relationship between yourself and Jesus. Its based on your own understanding of who Christ was/is. Of course there are similarities in the religion and my relationship with God such as believing in the same Savior and all that but my faith is without the rules and regulation of a religion. This form also sees some of how you see. Instead of judging or comparing other's religion to our own, we leave it as a different understanding of the same idea.

Although, keeping it to you and to the church and others that believe in the same thing is not exactly what I would call a good idea. There are ways of going about things. I like to share my faith and what it does for me with others and they can take it or leave it or do both by taking some and leaving some. Your argument makes sense (Jewish & Hitler, Israeli & Arab) because of whats going on but you have to look at it in two different ways. There are ways of discussing beliefs in a civilized manner and being able to learn from each other in that way.
Example: Christopher (Faith in humanity) and Spiderlaw (Faith in humanity's faith in God), we can discuss games and disagree about opinions but still respect each other's thoughts. We can take ideas from one another and use them in our decisions on poor to great games. Neither one of us is right or wrong, just different. But there has been many times and will be more times that I have learned from your opinions on a specific game.
Then there is Michael (Artistic, Feminine (just pointing it out, it isn’t a bad thing. I’m in touch with my feminine side too ;) ), Arrogant, and finds value in games that try to set themselves apart from the rest) and TEA (Technical, Masculine, Arrogant, Loyalty in games and developers who already made an impact and continue to do so). Both of them have different ideas about games as a whole and it has caused them to feud with each other. They make insults and throw metaphoric rocks at one another. They have taken their passion for games to a level that it should have never gone to, personal. This would be a perfect example of NOT how to do things.
In the end, it all comes down to who you choose to be as a human being.
There is this film, a good one, a documentary, that you can find on Netflix that is called "Jesus, Save Me From Your Followers." you should check it out.

LOL. Yeah. I prefer ones that can cause debates; it makes things fun and interesting. I love to learn and a great way to learn is to talk about sensitive subjects. So as long as people can remain mature, such as Crysis and I have displayed here so far.

My initial point of the post is, "Not all Christians are arrogant pricks that force their ideas on others."

I despise Christians per default. That's not to say that I can't be friends with some, but the lack of judgement they show by blindly submitting to such general schisms and dogmas, and defying their own common sense, in search of some cookie cutter meaning of life is simply put, a major turnoff for me.

If you look at the bible from a historic point of view, it's just ridiculous how many inconsistencies it presents, including poor translations and manipulations by various authorities, and from an ethical point of view, how sloppy it is in defining its own values. I once read a Vatican scholar, one of the most scientifically valid theologians, denounce an entire gospel of the bible as probably lies (apparently Luke had too many inconsistencies with the others to be taken seriously).

I also tried reading the bible myself, and I was amazed at how uncritical Christians truly are. What I saw was a typical cultist willing to say and do absolutely anything to intimidate and manipulate his followers into his beckon call. Much like the missionaries of today.

As I see it, in a historical context, it seems to me that Jesus, if he ever existed, was just interested in mercilessly dominating his followers, seizing power in Jerusalem, and I personally think he was counting on more support than he got when he went and declared himself the chosen one. I think he was relying on his followers to riot, but that never came. Overtextending yourself has always been the hallmark of megalomania, and to me the Jesus in the bible is just another cultist who got himself killed by buying in to his own babble.

There's also no proof that he ever intended for anyone but jews to join his religion, so the fact that you have a bunch of people crashing the party without even questioning their own "chosenness", is a little strange to me.

Great post spider. Its good to see the behind the scences guys still are there. I've grown pretty sick of the mainstream depiction we get as christians. Its almost as equal as CoD, how we are portrayed as holier then though saints then contradict our belief by relapsing. I agree with chris in half of his post but I think he's missing something. Its because we are of God that we are God. We were created in his image of course and image isn't just visual. It is in his being as well. He made us able and strong. He made us powerful like him. But, as humans we do restrict one another because of how selfish we have become.
Its all I I I and me me me. What's so. Wrong with thinking about others? Why is it so hard to help without looking for compensation? Answers to those questions are for another day. But, your spot on with your post. Good. read

Absolutely. There are many facets of religion that I simply cannot tolerate. The ones that are always trying to 'spread the word' being the worst example of this.

We're all entitled to believe what we choose.

Now that I know people are speaking their mind, I personally believe that religion is nothing but an outdated means of controlling the masses and gaining power.

All it seems to breed is contempt and hatred. As such I see absolutely no need for it.

Since we've already talked about religion, time for politics. Conservatives are holding us back! Sure it's okay to hold onto certain morals, but we need to keep on moving, innovating, pushing forward & as a species, growing up.

Wow, that was one great read also. Honestly, I have never encountered a single person who has been able to describe their disbelief in detail as your comment. Honestly, most nonbelievers will say "I don’t believe because the bible is stupid. It doesnt make sense." but fail to describe what exactly is stupid about it.
But why despise all Christians? Not every single one is a cultist that blindly follows whoever claims to speak the truth (there are some that are though, and they are the most outspoken :P ). There is more of a purpose than that to some. If a person un-harmfully believes that his life has more meaning and will have much more peace by believing in anything in particular, not necessarily an ultimately higher being, why would that bother you?
If I believed that there were aliens that watch over our planet and i am safe from an asteroid destroying earth because they watch over us carefully and that makes my life happier, why would that bother you? Would it bother you that i shared this information with you? Probably not i would assume. If the earth crumbles from an asteroid attack and my belief proven false, i have couple seconds to think "O fucking well" Sure, this belief may not have caused genocide but neither has the belief in Jesus, Jehovah, or any other ultimate being. Its always been people that cause genocide. Human evil has always been around and always will be, no matter the tools available. Some just choose to be wicked and will use any means necessary to be wicked.

BTW, it does mention in the Bible that Jesus would be known by all nations. So the whole "People crashing a Jewish party" thing isn’t strange at all. Whether the bible is true or not, Jesus intended for all to know him.

Yes, religion itself is an old means of controlling. You hit the nail right on the head man. Religion has rules, regulations that say that if you do not follower, you will spend eternity in hell. The ones that lifve by faith don’t follow these rules. So there has to be a separation of things.
If i talked to you about God, as i am doing subtly at this moment, am i hurting you in any way? No. Am i shoving my belief down your throat, no. I am sharing my thought and opinion with you and essentially my faith.
Now, then there are those that will say "If you don’t believe as I do, you will burn forever. So believe now!!!!" WTF do they get that nonsense? O that’s right, a religion, a set of rules placed by man and not by God. If you don’t believe Deacon, i still believe you are saved anyways. There is a bigger way of communicating now then there was 2,000yrs ago and so different ideas and beliefs have been stretched across all distances and in the deepest thoughts of the human mind. I believe that if there is God and Jesus is him, then in your end of living on earth, you will be saved through them in opportunity. If you died, and some powerful being came before you and said "Do you choose to believe me now that I am in front of you, displaying all my greatness before you? If you believe, you are granted entrance into eternity of peace." would you think you would still deny his existence? I’m not saying this is absolutely exactly how it would happen, but i am saying i "believe" it would.

Again, there is a difference between “Religious” Christians and Christians of “Faith”

I do love though when I see someone post a finalised opinion about someone else. And generally based off a documentary and a few bad seeds. Its a lot deeper to it then listening to others. Judge not least ye be judge accordingly. Also, listening a professor of a known cult(catholic) to rise to power and claiming a nation as a religion shows a small amount of study. Its like scratching the surface its public knowledge.

@SpiderLAW, most people don't describe why they hate your belief because of mutual respect, I could go into great detail why I don't believe in each & single religion but I won't, insulting somebody's belief is going a little too far, unless it's doing substantial personal damage.

Well, like I said spider, it's not always a dealbreaker. It's just a point against them, like people who keep calling my cell to tell me what they did 5 minutes ago, people who chew with an open mouth, or people who study philosophy. I can't stand any of those things.

Still, just because they have one point against them, doesn't mean they can't have three points for them. However, it does make a bad impression.

I am bothered by people who feel the need to push their beliefs, mental or physical disabilities, politicial affiliations or ethnic backgrounds in front of them, instead of choosing to speak for themselves as a genuine individual. The former I can't respect at all, the latter I can.

And it does annoy me when people feel they have to "enlighten" me with their own ignorance. I don't really care if people are pushing God, a faked moonlanding, impending doom, or the notion that someone actually blew up the World Trade Center - I prefer not to suffer their delusions. They're obviously entitled to say what they want, and I'll defend that right, but I'm just as entitled to judge them for what they're saying.

I think they should keep talking, because at least around here, and according to at least one recent study, Christians are essentially hurting their religion a lot more right now, than anyone else ever could.

Like Deacon I think Christians are remaining passive while their religion does a lot of harm, to a lot of innocent people. In the US (most noticeably) and around the world, Christianity is often reduced to little more than an excuse for being a bigot, and the fact that those apparently silent Christians don't seem to mind their religion being used to assault others, and, as in the US, be used directly in a political context, to subvert peoples civil rights, is appalling to me.

I wouldn't put it up there with nazism (which was essentially another christian-affiliated movement) but it definitely runs directly counter to my own values.

PPS. It's not just Christianity, mind you. Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaeism all have elements of exploitation, oppression, aggression, and isolationist expansionism in their own ways. It's just that I grew up in a Christian country, so that's a lot more offensive to me by virtue of proximity.

True. I agree with that as well. But opinion is still opinion and it belongs to the person stating it. If he chooses to believe the way he does because of the information given to him, then thats his choice and there is no wrong in that at all really. People learn and grow and progress at different degrees than others and so respect for differences is indeed a necessary part of living.

It depends on how you say it really. If you hate me because i believe and choose to insult me accordingly, then yes, that is indeed disrespectful and would be taken very kindly. If you are to voice your opion on your own beliefs and in the process dismiss others religion, there is no disrespect. It is simply what you believe in.
Example of wrong "Fuck your beliefs. They are all stupid, wrong, idiotic and make no fucking sense at all. I cant believe you can be so stupid to follow something so disgustingly idiotic.:
Example of right "I cant believe in Christian ideas and values because its so contradictive. To me, none of it makes sense. The bible clearly has been touched by multiple authorities thus making it void of truth. Its nonsense to me"
And really, Real Christians can take the argument, judgement, mocking, etc. It really does us no harm. Its like when you are a kid and some other kid calls you stupid and you tell your parents "He called me stupid" and your parents say "Well, are you stupid?" and you obviously say no and then your parents say "Then it doesnt matter what he says, does it? So let it go"

I see and i agree too. But i agree because i see it isnt exactly the values or faith that bothers you. Its the way that people shield themselves behind those values and faith. Or the way that some use it as a tool of control or destruction. Or the ways some bend it to their own benefit.

Ever see the movie Book of Eli?
It shows both sides. It shows how faith can lead to great things but also how the foundation of that faith can be used for evil/bad/wrong things.

Essentially yes and no. I have a problem with the faith, since I think it's unfounded and widely held beyond any sort of cognitive skepticism or investigation by its followers.

If you really believe that Jesus could manipulate physics and cure the sick, then why not believe that a scandinavian warrior turned himself into a bear and tore into enemy ranks during a battle, as described in the heraldic poems up here in the nordic countries? Both are impossible according to any documented account of nature, so what elevates Jesuses unnatural feats above those of others?

And for that matter, why wouldn't Zeus be able to turn into a giraffe and rape greek preteens?

I've been trying to avoid bringing Epicurus into the argument, because it's such a trendy atheist thing to do, but his problem is still sound, because the source material itself lacks consistency and logic in the way it does.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

But yeah, you're right in that I probably wouldn't have asked and explored those questions, if those Christians hadn't pushed my buttons to begin with.

I agree opinion is opinion. But, using our opinions to justify disgust or hate is a bad route to take. Mainly because as people our opinions and views are constantly evolving. One moment a person believe in something the next he doesn't. Einstein went from believing in no. Relevant God to believeing in a Spinoza God. Took him nearly lifetime to come to that conclusion. The point is making critical judgements early tend to cause backlash in the future on our past beliefs.

Not one man on earth is in a position to claim they know it all. So it is becoming a neccesary thing to envoke humility. If we were to humble. Ourselves a bit more we might be able to find answers a lot easier.

@dsb a book of the bible you should read that the catholic church took out is enoch. In the book of enoch it pretty much answers those questions of the common atheist. In enoch, the angels that. Bred with women had been tearing the. Earth. Upside down. And, their children the nephilim were also ravaging the land. And in this book it tells of God simply doing nothing. Micheal the. Archangel had started to question God but still humbly approached him asking God. Why was he letting the earth and man suffer. God told him it was because man denied his help. They turned their backs on him so he let them live in their decision.
Literally almost to the point where everything was. Close to being. Wiped out. Questioning why God allows/ed such things is no more then a simple answer. Because its what we asked for. Everything from the garden of eden until now has been our choices. And, Like how we teach our children how to learn from their mistakes God teaches us. People want to discredit his choices but it isn't his choices we're upset. With. Its our own choices

Lex, you're allowed to pick and choose what you believe in, but taking an esoteric and widely marginalized Jewish text and deciding for yourself (without being an eritrean or ethiopean orthodox) that it's Christian, is not valid.

It could be considered Christian, if you're considered eritrean or ethiopean orthodox.

Otherwise you'll have to take up the cause and convince the remaining Christian theologians that it's valid within the Christian belief system, because obviously they've made the call that it's not.

Unless you make a valid argument, you cannot as a follower of a specific beliefsystem, pick and choose what you determine to be Christian, because others are already recognized as stating that claim.

I can't take Hans Christian Andersen fairytales, claim them divine, and call myself a Christian. Either the faith is the faith or the faith is whatever you make it, which would obviously require a new definition.

But you are taking Christian as its form in government and religion.
Christianity is not a religion. Its a belief. Its a belief in that Jesus is the son of God and savior. Christians are to strive to be Christ-like.
Which from what is in the bible is a non judgemental, kind, care giving, human being with a purpose that believes in the scriptures from God.
So whether it be from another orthodox or not make no difference, the fact that it follows the same ideas of faith is what would allow it to be categorized under the beliefs of Christianity. Like ive been saying from the beginning, you have to sperate Christianity the faith from Christianity the religion. They are two totally different things.

Jeez, beat me the punch huh spider?lol as he said I am a chrisitian, not because others tell me what to believe in and what to do. But, because of the studying I have done to prove myself unto God not man. The reason we see. Corruption in our beliefs as. Christians is because man wants to organise and govern over something that is not humanly possible to govern. The reason so many foul acts had been commited in the christian faith is because other men picked and chose what to give to the people. Remember the dark ages? Remember how the catholic church had told men that their sins were forgiven if they did what the catholic church asked them to do because it was for God? Or how about when the catholic church put a ordinance out to collect all forms of the bibles literature and if they weren't given up that the person/people would be punished by death?

These are and were not acts of God. They were acts of man. If I find a book in the curious george saga that is clearly about curious george and has all the same context as a traditional curious george book. Am I going to let someone else tell me its not curious george? That is why the bible tell us to study to show thyself aproved unto God a workman in his study. Because, the answers are not clear and they are very hard to find as is any truth.

I can't be told how to be a christian by man when the text tells me better then anyone else can. Also, if you read in genesis it gives credance to enochs relevance in the bible because he was a child of adam and eve and also one of Gods favorites and he had no recorded death. Believing that God favored him so much he didn't even let him die. When you view enochs life he was a very humble and God fearing man who loved his creator with all his being

Personaly I think that life and the universe that we life in go way beyond our meager understanding of it. The fundimental problems I have with most religions is that they seemingly place mankind as the center focul point of all things. They also tend to shun scince, while filling in holes and gaps.

But historicly organized religions feed off of ignorance.

I feel that the number of things we don't understand in the universe far excede the ones that we do understand. And I am not arrogant enough or foolish enough to think that I have the answers. But I am also inquizitive enough that I still want to ask the questions in first place.

I think that across the vastness of space, there is logicly other planets containing life. We know that water exsists in space. We also know that organic materal has been found in meteor rocks, as well as dust that have been gathered in space. I say we are who we are, and what we are not by some great design, but by some great instance of chance.

And stasticly, across that vast expanse of time and space we call the universe it is likly that other instances of chance have happened.

My feeling is that no way any of us here on this website, or in the great books of history, theology, or scripture can lay claim to knowing things beyond our own exsistance.

There may well be higher beings. There may well have been Gods to this planet. I don't know.

Human beings have a need to feel comforted. And we tend to fear the unknown. Those two things have been a driving force for relegion.

I have a mother in law that is such a Bible thumper she won't even acknowledge dinosuars. After all they aren't in the Bible.

Belief is a very personal thing. Believe what you like, in most nations your entitled.

Live and let live.

But again:

"There is no greater wealth like knowledge and no greater poverty like ignorance."

I don't know the answers, but I crave to find out.

Either you believe in something as it's laid out, or you don't. If you begin to mix and match on your own, then you're simply constructing your own faith, based on your own convenience.

Fundamentally if you subscribe to jewish esotericism, which is considered a very hardcore jewish niche to most jews, then you can't also believe in Jesus, because they sure as hell (well, not sure as hell, there's no hell in judaism) do not allow you to.

You can go around grabbing various texts, from various other religions and put it into your own system, gnostics and chaos gnostic satanists try to make those connections all the time, but that's why they're called gnostics, not christians.

It's just not impressive that christians start to try and change the argument, and even the religion, as soon as they're challenged, without any concern for the context of what they're choosing to believe in that moment.

Are you an esoteric jew, are you a christian or are you a gnostic? You cannot be all three.

I can see now the argument has become "christianity is nothing, and christianity is everything" which basically invalidates the entire notion of a formulated religion. If christianity has no definition, no clearly defined source material, and you're completely free to believe whatever you want, then why bother with the label? Congrats, you're agnostic.

He can't be agnostic because agnostic means you believe in a god but feel there's no proof. And, its feeble attempts at labeling that is a prime source of would be organizations. I do not have to be organised to fit your taste. I am not african because I have native american but I am not native american because I have irish. Is it impossible to be all three and none at all? Yes it is. Because I don't choose to be simply labeled to fit anothers objectives. But, if it helps you sleep at night to associate me in a class then by all means help yourself. Although you should remember that's your choice not mine. Do you see how that works?

@o.g bible does mention dinosaurs as simple as in genesis. It states. There were creatures that. Walked the land that were a perversion of Gods creation. Creatures created by the outlaw angels and their children the nephilim who also rose to be the heros of renowned and legend. Don't blame your mother for not saying here. The dinosaurs are right here, dinosaur is a relatively new word and wouldn't have been used in those times

Behemoth has the following attributes according to Job 40:15-24
It “eats grass like an ox.”
It “moves his tail like a cedar.” (In Hebrew, this literally reads, “he lets hang his tail like a cedar.”)
Its “bones are like beams of bronze,
His ribs like bars of iron.”
“He is the first of the ways of God.”
“He lies under the lotus trees,
In a covert of reeds and marsh.”
- This is much like the Brachiosaurus

Leviathan has the following attributes according to Job chapter 41, Psalm 104:25,26 and Isaiah 27:1. This is only a partial listing—just enough to make the point.

Leviathan “played” in the “great and wide sea” (a paraphrase of Psalm 104 verses 25 and 26—get the exact sense by reading them yourself).
Leviathan is a “reptile [a] that is in the sea.” (Isaiah 27:1)
Leviathin is described much like a Kronosaurus

Dinosaurs existed before God replenished the Earth and the Bible stories were after God replenished the Earth.
(KJV) Genesis 1 [27] "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
[28] And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and "REPLENISH" the earth, ......
Quick definitions (replenish) verb: fill something that had previously been emptied.

Tanniyn is also mentioned in the bible which means Dragon.
