Despite its 89/100 metacritic score, it looks like a lot of PC Gamer feels betrayed by Crytek in many forums. I'll post some of their Dissapointment here! Add it if you like!

It's worth keeping in mind that reality on the internet isn't neccesarily actual reality.

A lot of people will be quick to complain, but few will apply the opposite fervor to praising a game. I might take a rotten tomato back to the grocery store, but I won't run back to commend them on selling me one that's absolutely brilliant.

I'm anxious to see what I'll think once it unlocks come Friday. It's hard to gauge where the anti-hype stops and the real criticism begins based on the professional reviews, but obviously fucking up the graphical interface (making people have to use the console to tweak their graphics!) and forcing people to use GAMESPY logins for the game, is just so mindnumbingly stupid it defies comprehension.

Yes it will have a Patch that will apply DX11. If there are any tweaks that you have do through the console those are not something that will make game any better, they left those out for a reason like they were not finished with them.

People are just quick to pick up the pitchforks and torches even when the game has been out barely a day. Have played the game for 4 hours and I actually prefer this game over the first Crysis not sure why the first one was praised so much it wasn't that pretty, the only thing it did have is a lot of foliage and water if thats what made the game so demanding with hardware thats disappointing. Just a lot of trees and water...

@Phoenixblight, I agree, I normally only use my computer to play RTS games because I prefer the simplicity of console gaming but I thought I'd get Crysis because of the praise it was getting & while it looked beautiful, I was disappointed with everything else.
By the way, how much freedom is there to roaming in Crysis 2? I'll be ordering it from the UK once my pay comes in this Thursday.

I'm not yet playing it, but from the post in the forum like hard ocp and mycrysis, looks like it gives you freedom to tackle the enemies anyway you can, but it didnt give you creativity to do that (the tactical view before the level begin showed you all the possible way to handle your enemy).

Meanwhile, you will still be able to roam the city in a smaller scale but with minor interactivity with the objects around you (no more vehicles to hop on,the trees are made from indestructible concrete while the bottle just as thin as a piece of paper and no more crabs,chicken, or turtle to cuddle or shoot at)

Better wait for rockpapershotgun crysis 2 review for me!

To be honest, the game doesn't even have proper options in the menu's. If you want to adjust the different aspect like shadows, lighting, AA etc, you have to use console commands. That alone should point out how poor the PC version is.

As i said before. PC version of Crysis 2 looks worse then Crysis 1 by 3 times. Even if you will add Direct X11 it's not going to look any better. direct X11 is tesselation and decent fog, thats it.

It's a cheap console port. Crysis 1 was better at everything. There was a sandbox, better environment and etc.

While its not as Sandbox as the original, the game does give you freedom to do what you want with enemies and the levels are rather large. I actually prefer less sandbox for more detailed areas and thats what they did. You can also upgrade your armor in the game with collecting certain things and then make the suit fit with your playstyle.

There is a lot of interactivity within the game, you can still drive vehiles, lots of things you can pick up and chuck or powerkick to enemies like cars. Yeah you can't destroy buildings with your guns like it was red faction but there are enviornment or pieces of it that are destructible, I was sniping from a building and my stealth went out and so everyone and their mother knew where I was and a tank shot at me and good portion of the wall fell apart.

THats right everything is just set up to be a setting that messes with everything like WOW did back in the day. Thats just lazy UI development and I agree with that.

My Crysis 2 is unlocking right now, what the hell? It's not supposed to be out until tomorrow, I was considering a VPN unlock :P

I'm looking forward to seeing it for myself. A lot of the reviews stated that you were back to the old "Headshot - Cloak - Headshot" gig, but I'm hoping that's exagerated.

Either way, I bought it for the multiplayer.

Thankfully UI can be fixed at some point. Although Bioware never bothered adding advanced options to Dragon Age Origins even when people were asking for them from the first day the game was out. The fact that I have to wade through .ini's more now than I had to 10 years ago is an absolute black mark for game developers. Hell, I even have to do some port forwarding now too. Shocking laziness.

Played through the intro now. Pretty weak "switch" there at the beginning, but fair attempt at a Bioshock/Half-Life opener.

But one thing I don't get for the life of me is why developers spend so much time polishing their gameplay and then stick you with low res movies that look like shit. That's always been an immersion-breaker for me.

I wouldn't expect that from a company like Crytek.

Anyway, into the breach.

According to digital foundry analysis(http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-crysis2-face-off), console version also technically suffered and not quite up with the expectation. FPS drop, common 3D mode, geometry pop up,etc are not something that Crytek promised before.

I'm through a few episodes, which I had to play through twice, because to Crytek apparently "For experienced FPS players. Test your abilities against challenging enemies" means wanting to walk all over everything in the game on godmode, without even the slightest shred of a challenge.

Sadly turning the difficulty up did nothing except make enemies tougher and their shots hurt more, as well as the spawns spitting out more opponents. I was hoping for smarter AI, as the difficulty setting read.

Anyway, so far the game just isn't thrilling. The weapons handle well and the soundscape is extremely pleasing, but I'm running into a lot of errors and weird decisions. One thing is the low-fi videos, another is all the pretty badly done water effects all over the levels and tunnels, and yet another is the fact that all the weapon attachments are unlocked when I start a new game. Worst is probably that the AI doesn't even try to kill you. They're completely willing to stand around kick the dirt as soon as you stealth, so you can easily just walk around them and cut them to bits. They're a lot less challenging than they were in Far Cry in my opinion.

It feels a lot like F.E.A.R. 2. Even the gore effects look similarly exagerated.

I don't have a chance to dig into the multiplayer because Crytek fucked up their account system, so there are thousands of paying customers who can't redeem their limited editions, and play online. At this point I'd gladly take a refund.

It shouldn't recieve more than 5/10 or 6/10 based on this pretty awful launch, in my opinion.

I dont know what the fuss was all about Crysis in the first place (well in 2007 it was great, gameplay is weak). Yeah it looks great, when you are playing it. But Erthazus gripes and cries how other games look horrible when you look at the textures and what not (KZ3 being an example.)....
Crysis 1 textures are really not all that great either. Ive been playing it on max with 8x AA (the first time i played through was on MAX but no AA when i had my GT260 card) and really, the textures are great when you are playing and moving along, but when you stop to look at them, they look like low quality pasty JPEG images. The only textures that look great are on chracter models. The water looks nice too, but nothing to say "Looks 10x better than KZ3" over. Yes, Crysis 1 looks great in screenshots and when you are moving through the game, but when you go, stop, look at the trees, grass, rocks, snow, etc. the textures look very poor.
Maybe im missing something but i dont see where the hype came from. After playing Crysis 1 all the way through once, and now playing it again for the past 2 weeks (single and multiplayer) i dont see anything good about it. The gameplay is stale, the story is weak, and the dare i say it, the graphics are the only thing decent about it but there are other games out there that look just as good (to me) and play much better.

Also - Checkpoint retardation.

I didn't mind the checkpoints in Far Cry or Crysis so much, they tended to be fairly short and sweet, but Crysis 2 is just chock full of "gotcha moments" like cars to kick with barrels right next to you that explode as soon as you take the bait, or similar barrels placed around a corner obscuring enemies, so as soon as you move around it, the barrels take a hit and blow you to fuck. I've never seen a big city with so many token explosive objects scattered around it. It's a good thing everybody's dead or dying, because that would be pretty hazardous to people living there.

In the last case that cost me at least 15 minutes of gameplay.

It just feels sloppy and halfbaked, really.

Graphics look great most of the time, and the framerate is awesome on the highest settings, but the running water effects are so bad you notice it every time. It's a little disappointing that the huge New York skyscrapers just look like dead, boring props as well. They obviously didn't spend a lot of time on those.

It's all compounded by the fact that they didn't fix their fucking account system before launch, in spite of people making them aware of it through beta and into the multiplayer demo. Piss poor effort. I bought it for the multiplayer, but I don't have a chance in hell of claiming my nickname until they fix the game.

I think the PC version of Crysis 2 looks and plays FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC. Got it on "hardcore" settings with my GTX465 and I'm thouroughly impressed. Defintiely disagree that Crysis 1 looked "3x better". I think people bitch too much these days plain and simple.

Everything makes sense now. Now that we discovered that the PC version is indeed a console port, sales will probably fail to met Cryteks expectations. They will blame it on the Pirated Beta Version. Which, we all know, was released by Crytek themselves.

off-screen cam pics are a bit useless though Megatron. The Crysis 2 pics look worse at least in part because he's shaky cam'd them up a bit.

Digital foundry make it clear that from the texture quality and MSAA method they used, this is trully console port and not the other way around like what have been promised by crytek :(

And at the end of their article, they also stated that Crysis 2 gameplay is more COD-esque and streamlined than before, with clunky graphic options that relies to community to fix it alone (they paid $60 for this only to fix it by themself) while hoping for higher-res texture mod occur (to add more pinch to the salt, there is no official Crysis 2 mod tools from crytek till now).

Dissapointed x1000!

Comparing it to CoD is just retarded. They have little to do with eachother, except for the format of the multiplayer. And crying like a little bitch about what the main build was is equally so.

Is the game good or not? That's really the only thing you have to worry about, not the number of pixels squeezed into your screen. You can get plenty of nice wallpapers to look at, if that's your thing.

I think the real issue with multiplatform titles is that so many concessions have to be made to ensure that they translate fluently into eachother.

If you're only doing one platform, then the name of the game is "tweak, tweak, tweak" - If you're doing three at one time, then it's "fix this problem, fix this problem, fix this problem". Basically needing to look over three games at once rather than working on the one.

it's really is a Call Of Duty title except for that "feeling". From killstreaks to Arsenal it's basically the same game. Same small maps, with just UPDATED engine that still use 20% of it's potential in the multiplayer.

Crysis 1 multiplayer was much better. First of all that multiplayer had 32 players, you could lean and prone. Suit was something unique and you felt it's power.
Sure, there were problems with huge maps, but at least it was something it's own then just a copy cat. They had a chance to fix it and they missed this opportunity screwing everything that is possible and impossible.

+ Crysis was one of the games that people remembered for it's graphics, freedom, variety. Everything vanished and suddenly no one cares about this game. They talk about it as another shooter.

I'm sick of this. If i want Call Of duty i will play Call of duty. Thats just my opinion on this.

It has nothing to do with Call of Duty in the singleplayer, however. Completely different game. I don't recall jumping around buildings as I please, kicking cars onto machineguns or throwing explosive barrels at people whenever I want, or switching between stealth and full-on firepower. The comparison between the two in campaign mode is ludicrous. It's certainly gotten a lot more visibly "corridor" than Crysis 1, but Crysis 1 still pretty much led you around the same route on the island, no matter how you chose to play.

The AI is noticeably worse though. The enemies are completely helpless. Crysis 1 had smarter enemies, but you couldn't meet them toe to toe like you could in Far Cry, which is my big problem with the game.

CoD's campaign is just a linear corridor shooting gallery with a few gimmicks. Move up, take cover, punch them out. Nothing more, nothing less.

In multiplayer they're going for the same thing. Still, you do use the environment in different ways, there's cloaking/nanovision, but ultimately they're aiming for a CoD-like experience.

I think it's a lot worse that they didn't listen to people when they said the account system is broken. Thousands of people are still locked out.

I haven't tried Crysis Wars yet, maybe I should.

@DSB, correct me if I'm wrong, because I never actually played it myself, but didn't BF2 maps scale based on player count? So what's wrong with the console versions being locked into what will be the 24 player map sections of the PC version? Whether or not there were going to be console versions or not, BF3 would have had 24 player scaled maps, so I don't see any multi platform compromise on that front.

@freedoms_stain To be honest I don't really remember how the different sizes of maps played into BF2.

I think the size argument (which isn't really my main thing) is based on the use of vehicles. In Bad Company 2 they mitigated the size of the maps in Rush so that there was only one IFV, which was fine because we played it to get the infantry gameplay, not the vehicle stuff. Taking most of the vehicles out is not really going to be an option for BF3, though. If you cut the map in half, that's certainly going to be terrible for the jets who need a lot of room.

That being said, I have no idea how big those maps are going to be.

I was more onto the notion that making three different builds has to be extremely ineffiecient. Not only do you have to find the golden "middleground", where the game will work well for all three, but you have to constantly consider it every time you're trying to put something new into the game. That basically means that each platform is going to present its own unique quirks and bugs, which you will have to devote time to, to fix.

I'm not a games developer, but I just think the argument that single platform games are ultimately more highly engineered (simply because you're only considering the one build along the way) sounds very sensible. And the fact that BF3 will have to work on Xbox, PS3 and PC, is probably my biggest concern for the game itself. Obviously the campaign can't be shrunk in the same way. At least that would be a first?

They obviously will, but if you cut the map in half, then you'll have to cut the airspace in half. I don't see how they can avoid having planes fly around in a great deal of nothingness with no map below them if they don't.

Crytek looks like been saved by the community. Wasdie (incrysis forum member) post its Crysis 2 Advanced Graphic Apps here wasdie.blogspot.com, it will maximize your crysis 2 dumbed down graphics and stressed out whatever graphic card you have! It's trully the joy of pc gaming,folks!
Meanwhile, RPS review (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/03/26/review-crysis-2-pc/) said that Crysis 2 is a great linear game on its own merit, especially when we compare it with the trend of FPS recently and not compare it directly with what Crysis have reached 4 years ago! At least that 's what I've been able to catch from their review!
