I've stumbled upon a site that has collected every officially announced exclusive for both consoles
http://scrawlfx.com/ps3-360-exclusives#030811
The 360's head start obviously means a larger back catalog, but what do you guys think of the future for both of them? Seems that Sony is really coming along with their PSN titles but how many of them will actually make it to Europe's PSN?
Now since this is a typical Sony vs MS post, I expect their to be fanboys, but at least try to keep the needless insults & pointless jibber-jabber to a minimum.
Upcoming & past PS3/360 exclusives.

I think exclusives are utterly meaningless and prove nothing.
Having more or less exclusives on your format is something only fanboys care about. If you own all the hardware, like I do, you get to choose from everything, and that's the way it should be.
Format pride is meaningless. Defending one format over another is also just as meaningless. Your console is not your child. You shouldn't treat it like it is.

I kind of agree with you, mainly only the bottom paragraph, but for someone like myself who's currently on a tight budget, I can't afford a PS3, Xbox 360, PSP, DS, Wii, 3DS & a gaming pc so exclusives make or break what I chose to keep & when I needed $100, it was either my PS3 or 360 that had to go-the deciding factor? 2011 exclusives, so unless I was an absolute Gears nuts, it's obvious which console I had to sell, all my mates have 360s that I could borrow anyways.
Fact is, competition wouldn't really work without exclusives, if Halo, Gran Turismo, Gears of War & Uncharted were on the Wii, would anyone have an excuse to upgrade to a 360?Posted 2 years ago # -
If you don't have the ability to own all consoles, I'd say the PS3 would be the obvious winner on the back of its first party selection. There's some true gems on there, and they're games that could never work on Xbox Live's current architecture.
If you were a fan of simpler and smaller games and don't care about how production values or the raw horse power behind a game, the Xbox would definitely be someone's best choice. The selection of indie titles on Xbox Live is, in my opinion, vastly superior to what's on the PS3.
If you have a nostalgic love for Nintendo, get the Wii. Just don't whine when you have to wait almost a year between the releases of any decent games.
If indoors aren't your thing, you can't go far wrong with the DS and PSP. Both have tons of brilliant games that highlights each handheld's major strengths, and both are worth having.
And then there's the PC, if you're nothing but a graphics.
...I kid, I kid!
The PC, by its nature, has the biggest back catalogue of any format out there. And even a modest machine can play over twenty years of impressive gaming history. Some of the most complex and defining games of our hobby were born on the PC. I dare say you haven't lived as a gamer until you've played at least one Civilisation game.

especialy at #2:
u ever thought of ppl defending exclusives cos simply they are the bet experience? Its not about formats or platforms, its just about the experience. Exclusives deliver the most in that departement.Posted 2 years ago # -
@mojo
Very few of my favourite gaming experiences has been exclusive titles - LittleBigPlanet being the one exception.
Especially not in this generation what with Sony and Microsoft sharing a roughly equal portion of the pie amongst each other.

Some really good posts in here.
This gen I own everything worth owning to me. Next gen I am going to have to pick and choose a lot more. My game budget is almost all but dried up recently.
The best value I find is in PSN/xb Arcade games. If I was asked to tell you what system and selection of games I liked best, I would say xb360. If I was forced to pick only one system to own in my home, I would pick PS3. And that is due to the hardware breaking on xb360. My curent xb360 won't read discs anymore, making it the thrid one that has broken on me.
Next gen I will own either a Sony or a MS system. I will buy a Nintendo system when the price drops later in the gen cycle, and then catch up on Nintendo then back libary of gems. I will continue to game on PC.
As far as exclusives ... I don't know I often find it is not the high profile games that I enjoy the most. When someone says strong exlcusives. Games like Gears of War, Halo, Uncharted, God of War come to the mind of most. I don't enjoy any of those games. For me its the Monday Night Combats, Hydro Thunders, Tourchlights, and of course the multiplat gem Zen Pinball that capture my game time.
Great games can be found on almost any game system ever made. Even the Atari Jaguar had AvP. The 3DO had NFS. Just dance with the girl you brought to the party. Also if you have to pick just one, wait. Next gen I plan on waiting a year or so to see how each new system pans out and what kinds of games can be had.
I don't work anymore, my days of buying new right away are sadly over.

It was exclusives that made me move from PS2 to XBox as my 'main' console last gen. I still owned and enjoyed both but PGR, Forza, Halo, Fable and strangely enough Kungfu Chaos, one of my fave games ever, kept me coming back to Xbox. The improved multiplat games were an added bonus but didnt factor all that highly for me back then.
This gen though, exclusives have not been quite the be all and end all they once were. I definitely have a favourite platform because I couldnt be without my favourite franchises, but a huge amount of multiplatform games have been as high quality as most exclusives.
Games like Batman:AA, Mass Effect 2, Oblivion, Assasins Creed 2, Guitar Hero:WT, Fight Night Round 3, CoD 4, Borderlands, Dragon Age and Darksiders have been right up there with the best as fas as I'm concerned.
When I say quality I'm not talking about budget, pixelwhoring or sales but genuine gaming quality. The satisfaction of engaging gameplay, not just watching lavish cutscenes and following a corridor until it's time to mash A to continue. There have been far too many high budget low interaction snoozefest exclusives this gen. This aint Hollywood!!
There are only a handful of exclusives I would say are truly exceptional this gen, some on 360, some on PS3 and some on Wii, some retail and some on download.
As to which platform has the bestest/most/bigget wang...who gives a damn? Buy all/both/none/whatever, and be happy with your choice. Trying to continually prove which platform is the 'best' by whatever metric is currently favourable is needy and pathetic and reeks of someone with buyers remorse trying to convince themselves they made the right decision, or to convince others they made the wrong decision.

All very good points. The console I have owned the longest this gen is 360. I bought it for Splinter Cell Double Agent, which PS3 did not have at the time. Also PS3 at that point was really expensive.
I was happy only having one console until MGS 4 appeared to critical acclaim. I longed for that title, MGS 3 Sub had been my favorite game last gen so I was eager to get my teeth into the new one.
I held off until xmas 2008. When I gave in I was in gaming ecstasy, all thoes nice exclusives like Uncharted, Resistance 1 & 2, LBP and of course MGS 4 were now availible to me. 3 months down the line when I had finished them I was like "Damn, £250 for access to 5 games, AND my system does not even have backwards compatibility!".
I found myself back on my 360 for all the multi-format titles due to achievements and sloppy PS3 ports. Its only really this year my PS3 is going to be worth the money I paid, Killzone 3, ICO HD Collection, Resistance 3, Uncharted 3 and Last Guardian. Before I play a sequel I always play the previous one so this year my PS3 will get some much needed love.
For me Next Gen is a damn worry. I cant stand not having access to certain games, I always say exclusives and me have a love/hate relationship. The ideal next gen for me would be a single platform, I think this will happen but not for a long time, mabey services like OnLive will help pave the way towards this.
If next gen does not kick in until 2014 I will be happy, I dont think this will happen though. Sony won't want Microsoft geting another 12 month head start, and Microsoft won't want Sony geting the head start this time around considering what it did for them this gen.
Do I hate exclusives? Yes. Do I love exclusives? Yes. The only way to win them all is if you have more money than sense :)

Michael: That i find odd.
i see it entirely different.
i find exclusive titles beeing the best experience for me.
i guess mostly due to them having less flaws than multiplat games.
technical flaws can drag me seriously down for an otherwise superb experience. In essence its the same thing like Console ports on PC vs PC-Lead Games.
So so many games could do so so much better if they dont have to go for a multiplat strategy..
And if that means i get fewer games to play for an even higher pricepoint, then, well i wont look back.
Quality over quantity any time.Posted 2 years ago # -
there are so many terrible or just mediocre exclusives, that it can really go both ways.
Posted 2 years ago # -
O.M.G. you all sound like a bunch of weed smoking hippies. Fact of the matter is exclusives are key and define a systems true potential and power. Its not just all about graphics but think of how the story is being told. Can anyone here honestly say the 360 has an Uncharted 2 equivalent....of course not don't be that stupid to even argue that fact.
Thats why exclusives mean EVERYTHING! The console with the most sales X the best exclusives + best features = Winner of the console wars that gen.
(wii doesn't count because it forfeit it's entry by not being able to qualify as a next gen HD system and all its exclusives are shit except for Donkey Kong Country and Metriod other M)

Exclusives are important and always will be. Those they say they arent are not really getting the experience. simple.

Exclusives don't mean anything at all. Especially when, as is the case this generation, they're not actually all that good in general.

Free $20 PSN card for the first person who can post a link of Mike praising 360 exclusives and saying PS3 has no games from either eurolamer or here on VG247 in the past 4 years.
...it'll be the easiest and fastest $20 anybody has made.

My comment was aimed at both consoles, little bear.

So lets clear up little mikey's flawed statement. He said (and I quote)
"Exclusives don't mean anything at all. Especially when, as is the case this generation, they're not actually all that good in general".
Funny you say this now in 2011 Mike when your beloved XBOX360 has little to no exclusivity whatsoever but back in 2006-2009 you had a different tone. It was all about how great M$ exclusives were and that they were the best games on the market....I can pull up the eurolamer links but that would be a waste of time because we all know which side of the line you stand on and the probability of you saying such BS is high even without evidence. SO! lets move on to the real significance of exclusivity shall we.....
The fact of the matter is this. Exclusives are "IMPORTANT" when its 1st party but "NOT" 3rd party. 3rd party exclusives make no sense whatsoever especially when its a company like EPIC who are generally more known for PC development. Having a title like Gears on both the 360 and PS3 would not only boost sales but boost company appeal among the gaming community. Thats just plain stupid because M$ doesn't own the I.P. Epic is only hurting themselves and their company image to millions of loyal PlayStation and Nintendo fans.
1st party exclusives (I.P. owned by console manufacture)on the other hand showcases the hardware's true advantages and separates itself from the competition. For example Uncharted 2 vs Fakable 2/3....Heavy Rain vs Alan Wake me up from Silent Hill rip off....GT5 vs Forzagetable 3....God of War 3 vs....something on the nextbox because M$ will never make a 1st party I.P. look that good or play that great this gen.
SO! The lesson of the thread children is that 1st party exclusives are important and are needed.....especially for bragging rights but 3rd party exclusives are foolish and devs and publishers like Bio-ware and E.A. have redeemed themselves by making Mass Effect a multi platform title. The whole world is looking at you EPIC to do the right thing. You can't release Gears 1 on both PC and 360 then change shit up for the 2nd and 3rd titles. Its your I.P. not M$'s stop being little bitches and make GEARS a multi platform series. P.S. 360 controller sucks.

i like this thread. very entertaining.
and i do agree. 1st party exclusives are important and make sense while 3rd party doesnt unless that company is completely brainless on how to develope for more than one console. Gears should be on 360 and PC at least.Posted 2 years ago # -
"3rd party exclusives make no sense whatsoever"
What about games like Yakuza where a majority of the targeted audience only own one console? Bet you won't be complaining when we finally see Rockstar's Agent either, although nothing has been publicly mentioned on the terms of it's exclusiveness, maybe it'll be a timed exclusive like the PS2 GTAs.
Posted 2 years ago # -
so shut your mouth then until its announced aussie boy. I do believe in 3rd party Legacy Exclusives like Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Onimusha, Ace Combat and so forth. Games that have begun life on PlayStation should stay only on PlayStation. And yes I know Final fantasy didn't start on PlayStation but it was revived to a new level on it.
Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, and Ace Combat as well as Tekken have all lost their grand appeal because of the xbox 360. They just don't feel special as they use to be and Metal Gear is doomed to be next....You all know I'm right you all can feel it don't deny your inner gamer emotions.
Posted 2 years ago # -
The only reason any of those games were "exclusive" was because the PS1 and PS2 had no relevant competition to speak of.
You ignorance of most of those franchise is astounding. Ace Combat was always shit. Devil May Cry went sour with 4 because the game's creator left the company, and Final Fantasy is a franchise that has jumped ship more times than any other franchise in history.
The fact that you think *any* of that have anything to do with the 360 is fucking hilarious. A console doesn't define the quality of a game. It never has, and only a brain dead idiot would ever be capable of coming to such a far fetched assumption.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Oh you ignorant dumb fuck I will continue this tomorrow I'm going to play some dead nation.
"Ace Combat was always shit"
May GOD truly help your pathetic soul.

Hey man, no reason to get personal & attack or insult others because they don't agree with you, this isn't primary school mate.
Talking about legacies having exceptions make you sound like a redneck, there needs to be a reason for a game to be exclusive & just because their prequels were is a pathetic excuse, screw legacy.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I'm not attacking him because I don't like his opinion. I'm insulting him because his rampant redneck stupidity is unbearably pathetic, his ignorance is appalling, and his arguments are the most blindly self serving ego-fuckfests I've ever seen by *anyone* on the internet.
He turns every single thread he walks into a giant ego match, where he tries oh so desperately to prove to the internet that he has a bigger proverbial cock than everyone else. It's sad, and it's pathetic.
He makes Hip Hop Gamer look like a humble, modest, down to earth individual in comparison.
He's a giant black stereotype. His existence is an insult to his people.
He's racist. He's sexist. He's ignorant. And he actually think that owning lots of expensive shit *means* something important. He's a redneck, an ego-maniac, and a complete cock in every regard. He is a disgusting human being in every regard, and I feel sorry for his kid, being stuck with an individual like this for a father. She's going to end up pretty messed up.
