But a lot of stuff in games comes down to opinion, like the lighting change in ME2 PS3, in some respects it's much more accurate, but artistically it falls over when the old lighting was rigged in such a way as to add to a cutscene which doesn't work in some cases, so he has to say what he thinks is the best one. Secondly, he knows people rely on what he says to purchase their games, so I don't think it's too much to expect him to want people to get the best option, so if the 360 version is cheap as chips but the PS3 one is full price and not head and shoulders above, he'll recommend the 360 version.
Now, much to the ire of a lot of people, myself included, the PS3 does get the lion's share of bad ports, and I think he's just as miffed as we are at both developers and sony for the situation, but I think people read to far into what he says. Every article of his I've read he always points out the quality of each platform for the game and then says what he thinks people should buy. Like I bought the PS3 version of Dead Space 2 based solely on the fact that he said the graphics and performance are the same but the sound is better. I can't remember what version he said was the best in his opinion but he stated the facts and I used that to guide my purchase. If you can only see what he plants as his opinion and get upset by what he says, you need thicker skin for one, and to stop being silly for another.
The thread asks if he is a fanboy, I don't think so, but he has his preferences, but at the end of the day, he loves technology (and people saying he ruins games are odd, and should just avoid technology articles as the tech is obviously not what you are in to, it's a personal thing, and making sweeping judgements based on it only shows your narrow view) and he wants to know what the best version of the game is. He talks to all developers about their games and he rightly gets angry (ghostbusters) when a developer really fails. It was probably down to him that ghostbusters PS3 got that patch to be honest, so he does help out.
At the end of the day he just wants people to get the best for their money. You might not agree with him but because of him I can go into buying my games aware of what's up ahead, which is good because a man like him makes it harder for lazy developers to make hash PS3 ports and ultimately, PS3 fans are burning the man that is doing them the biggest favour.
