I've never ordered from overseas before, but with the ridiculous prices here I'm going to start doing that, I'm just curious to know if the PS3 uses region locking on any games? I'm in a pal region planning to order from the UK, worst I've heard is that I'll be stuck with British servers, but should a game from the UK run fine on my Aus console?
Region Locking?

Australia counts as 'Europe' as far as games go, so you should have no problems running games for any platform bought from the UK. And the PS3 doesn't have region locking anyway.
There doesn't tend to be such a thing as 'British' servers for multiplayer stuff, as far as I can tell its always a generic European one if they're restricting by region.

"Australia counts as 'Europe' as far as games go" lol, so true :P
Cheers for that!Posted 2 years ago # -
no ps3 game is region locked, worst case scenario is if that game got dlc, that dlc would have to be purchased from the psn store the disc is from as dlc IS region locked

^ In which case it's easy to create an account for a particular region's store - to download the appropriate dlc.

I believe that if I wanted to purchase something from the US PSN I would need an American Credit card, & those prepaid cards won't work either, I tried D/ling Dino Crisis, no idea why it skipped EuroAustralia's PSN, nor why the hell everything i like half the price, it's digital for fuck sake.

I think you have all the downsides covered there Crysis. Essentially DLC and servers. If the game is not online or you are only interested in free DLC then it's all fine too.

To buy things from the US PSN store you need US PSN prepaid cards. You can import those from the US using your Aussie credit card.

^^ Really!??!
God DAMN it. There goes Xenogears.
I'd hoped they would simply debit your account the same way the EU PSN does when I buy stuff. Importing a US PSN prepaid card? Get to fuck.

Not sure but PSOne titles like Xenogears may also still be region locked - anyone confirm? So you would be scuppered anyway.

The PSOne titles work okay in other regions, it's actually buying them that's a bit tricky.
You need the US-flavoured prepaid cards unless you have a US credit card, Deacon. You can't set up a US account with a UK card.

Oddly I'm an Australian & I set up my US PSN account using a UK spamming email address.

I'll wait and see if it hits the EU PSN. Disappointing that they don't cater for this.

Pretty unlikely that Xenogears will make it to the European version of PSN given that the game was never released in Europe, sadly.

Thanks Blerk.
It's scenarios like this that make the difficulty to purchase from the US PSN store seem so unnecessary / dumb.

Well, look on the bright side. Nintendo do this with their boxed games as well!

To play EA sports games (NCAA Football) you need a US PSN account, that's all I've got ;)
