http://twitpic.com/406e5f this isnt a fact but a rumor. I got this from David of GZ off of twitter but if true its sad to see another developer go
Rare may be closing down(11 posts)
I really hope that's not true. I know some amazing people there.
@Hunam, the problem is that i think most of the good guys went out of there.
Rare these days is a developer of casual shit for Microsoft.
I hope these guys will go to Blizzard or some awesome studio to be honest.
I used to work there. I'm talking about people who were there last year.
I doubt Blizzard though. With Rare being in the Midlands of the UK and Blizzard being in California of the US makes the commute a bit much.
That post is a bit confusing, they say that Rare's fate is linked to Kinect Sports 2... and that they're fucked based on the success of Kinect Sports 1. But Kinect Sports 1 has done 2m+ units and is still selling reasonably well.
Or did they mean that they're fucked because they're going to be a Kinect only software house?
nobody cares about ms and rare
naughty dog and Insomniac are better than lame rare
@Back Up ^
Even if no-one cares for their games you can still show respect to the developers.
True enough these days, but they used to be great, which is why this is so sad. Rare games used to be a must have buy on day one, and were usually worth the wait but in recent years they have seen a decline.
I enjoyed Kinect Sports.
The vollyball is a lot of fun. And the Bowling was good. The track and field stuff is cool in large groups. I honestly don't understand what folks are looking to get out of a casual party style game?
It would be like getting pissed at a top down 2D shooter like Raiden/Strikers becuase you couldn't get out of the plane or because the game was only 7 stages long.
Point being those games all fit into the "it is what it is" catigory.
They are easy to pick and play games. They are something different then what we all cut our teeth playing.
I like em. I enjoyed Wii Sports too.
Games don't have to have some deep meaning. They just need to be fun.
As far as Rare goes, they have a long and soild history. I think a lot of those folks that started things rolling are now gone. But I bet some awesome people are still working there. I hate to see them lose their jobs. Keep that in mind when you blast a dev because their games don't bath the screen in buckets of blood or have mounds of jiggiling flesh.
Such a pity to see what Microsoft has done to this company, watched an EGTV tour of the studio a couple of years ago and it looked like the most awesome place in the world.
I cannot imagine anyone there is happy with the casual path its been forced down.
