Psst PB, now now, its ok, no one will take your WoW away from you ;)
I know everything gaming is based on 100% opinion or is biased to one degree or another. But you would be out to lunch not see the greatness in RIFT.
The PVP barrows from a lot of different games. It takes from wow, it takes from warhammer, it takes from Aion, and it takes from EQ. Why? because its development team has memebers that had hands in each of those games.
But how is that a bad thing?
It would be like taking memebers from the greatest rock bands in history and leting them make music. You can see the influences, but the quality is there.
And my friend Rifts quality is obvious.
Now the one thing I have to do is ask you to put down the crack pipe. Rifts talent trees(souls) are no where near wows. You have a role(mage/war/rouge/cleric), then you start playing. Your first quest leads you to picking a Soul(sub class)(Pyromancer, Necro, Void Knight, Paladin, etc - there are many/more then wow). Then you place points per level like all other games, as you advance higher in the soul you unlock abilities from the bottom of the soul. Now stay with me here, you get a second soul. And a third. You combine the souls to make a very unique class. You might have an elementalist caster then can raise the dead and HEAL. The possiblities are vast and varied. Wow is nothing like that. Every Tanking Pally in wow is going to have the same spec and the be striving for the same gear, and use the same spell rotation.
Wow is cookie cutter, Rift is creative.
The 1% garbage that is wow too. I loved spending five levels of talants to be able to do 5% more crit%. That was exciting. In Rift 5 levels gives you a pool of points and lots of options to use em.
I have read and been trolled with spam about wow players that cry about Rift. I don't understand for the life of me a MMORPG fan would turn their nose up at something like Rift.
I mean on the one hand you say Rift is just like a bloated wow, but then you claim it stinks and wow is better. Flawed logic. If all Rift does is tweak and improve what wow does, doesn't that alone make it better then wow?
You can't have it both ways.
You can't say that wow is way better, and then claim that all Rift is is just like wow.
It just doesn't work.
I think the real reason some folks take the pov you do PB is that in wow your prolly have a stable of built/geared toons. You scuff at the idea of starting over in a new game just as much as you wouldn't want to roll another toon in wow. You feel like you have achieved greatness in wow. You don't want to be a noob all over and lose that.
but next time your in wow look around. All of the other players in your race/class/gear are just like you. Just exactly like you. Thats not greatness, your have achieved mediocercy. Become one of the crowd.
In the end, I can fully respect your two cents. Really I can, I played wow for years. EQ before. And M59 before that.
But, to ignore Rift and deny its quality is ignorance. Simply put Rift is the best MMORPG to come along scince WoW launched.
The game is freaken amazing and outstanding. In beta it plays like a three year vet.
I was blown away and can not wait till it goes live.
