"DICE sets it's sights on Call Of duty"
OMG, so awesome.... Wait.. what? no... No.... NO!!!!!!!!
I hope they won't please Call Of Duty casual crowd, because once they did it we had sniper fest in BC2... =\\\ oh shit, Call Of shitty.
DICE do what you know, i hope they will do it right. Like in the old days.
Of course they will.../prays...
£/$10 it doesn't live up to the game BF2 fans expect it to be.
@Hunam, for 5 fucking years of developing it should deliver.
for that time they had a lot of spinnoffs to practice, now it's time to make a revolution.
If it won't live up to the expectations then holy cow...
EA clearly doesn't value the PC as a proper gaming platform. I mean look at BF2, that didn't have a single player campaign at all, but BF3 will have because that is what console gamers expect and that is what they will get. You think they are really going to make a game that can house 64 players in giant, sprawling maps with a a commander mode, a myrid of vehicle types, 6 player groups with a designated group leader and multi-tiered voice comms?
Of course they aren't. They can't do that on the 360 so they wont make an entirely different, more awesome game for the pc. We'll just get a server browser and the option to make private servers.
PS360 versions will be cut down from the PC version, not the other way around, which is odd because if MAG proves anything, it's that the PS3 can easily handle way more than 60+ players.
It looks a little too much like this for my liking. I'm honestly scared for DICE because if they don't deliver, PC gamers are going to burn their houses.

TEASER TRAILER LEAKED!
new standard for shooters ???
it looking similar to BF2
what exactly is the new
LET ALL BE KNOWN!
If Battlefield 3 has quick melee like COD and Bad Company 2... I will kill myself!
Would you really rather be flailing around with your gun on full auto right in the face of another player Yoshi?
That just feels stupid to me.
I liked the fact that it was a humiliation thing in Bad Company 2. Dogtagged, bitches.
If a person ran right up to me, fuck stabbing him, I'd blow his brains out, but in CoD, people have become sponges, wonder if there's a shooter out around that reacts to when you get shot, like if someone shot your leg you would flail then start limping til a medic helped you out, or if someone shot your left arm, you would handle your rifle inaccurately with one arm til it's healed by a medic, not sure if realism would make a fun game, but i think that it would be worth a try.
Face-on knifing in both BC2 and CoD is a joke. The idea that you'd be able to lunge through full-auto fire or a face full of buckshot and knife someone and survive is such bullshit. You'd be thrown back by the gunfire.
Future games need to either take that into account or include some sort of knife countering system for frontal knife attempts, because as-is, it's bollocks.
I think from behind though, especially with the BC2 animation (proper meaty thrust and twist into the neck) that's a legit one-hit kill. And if they so happen to be dressed like a Wookie, a legitimate teabag-dropping too.
CQC is effective in a firefight but the way the apply it to games is weird. I dont understand why they havent tried to mimic the real life scenario of doing it.
If a man is shooting a gun at something that is not you and you are able to get close enough to him, you would be able to get ur knife into him before he would be able to turn his weapon, point and shoot. especially if you had one hand holding the knife with one hand available to push the arm holding the gun out of the way before he has the chance of aiming. This is of course depending on the stikers speed. Usually soldiers are quick enough to do such things.

not saying thats what he did bUT the man only had a knife while 40 others had guns.
This whole crap of being fired at and u lunge passed the bullets hitting you for a knife kill is retarded.
Real knife insta-kills can be done, just needs to be done correctly. Im really liking the way KZ3 is doing it.
Okay, first of all: Games aren't realistic, nor have they ever been meant to be. If they were realistic, you'd be shitting your pants at the first crack of gunfire.
Second of all, even if we supposed that games are meant to be realistic, "a face full of buckshot" is harder to do than you might think. Guns are dangerous and they kill people very effectively, but a bullet or a cloud of buckshot at close range still only takes up a very small ammount of atmosphere, and believe it or not, it can be hard to guide a penny-sized piece of metal onto a target with a life-or-death shot of adrenaline coursing through your system.
Then you add to that the difficulty of entering a room through a door with a rifle that's around 3 feet in length, or manipulating a weapon of that size with a guy standing inches in front of you, and you have the reason why most units who are expert at clearing drills, send in a guy with a pistol first. Easy to handle, easy to switch targets, low recoil. It's not a question of blowing someone to pieces by virtue of caliber or cadence, it's a question of hitting them before they hit you.
Simply put, the restrictions of real close quarter combat wouldn't work in a game. You wouldn't be able to swing an assault rife around all willy nilly, and any soldier caught in a face-to-face situation like that (which has been documented numerous times in Iraq, especially) will try to grab the guy and neutralize him on the ground.
In games, people instantly panic when they're close to an enemy, and they start spraying all over their screen until they score a hit. If you like realism, then that could never happen, and personally it's not very satisfying to me to partake in a split second clusterfuck like that.
I'd rather have the first guy who presses his melee button win that duel. It's not realistic, although it's closer to the real thing. Most importantly though, it's just far more deliberate from a design point of view.
@spiderLAW
A knife is obviously a deadly weapon, but it takes considerable skill and effort to do it. There's one special forces operative who actually claimed to have taken out enemy with a knife during an escape, which has his buddies back at the regiment in stitches, since it's completely impossible to do silently, and requires an extreme effort to do quickly.
Basically, if you want to deprive a guy of action using a knife you have to grab him under the chin, lift him up with the one arm, and then serrate into his throat until you severely damage the spinal chord, in one swift movement. It's extremely hard to do, even for the best trained professional, and that's why it's barely taught anywhere.
Most trained soldiers would use a suppressed weapon if given the chance (which is almost as noisy as an unsurpressed weapon, contrary to popular belief) and use the element of surprise to try to shoot it out. Or if they attempt to be quiet, most likely their hands.
But yeah, gurkhas are some of the toughest soldiers I've ever read about.
After a very frustrating night of noobs driving my tank off in the middle of repairs only to watch it get RPG'd into oblivion 4 seconds later I hope there's some sort of "Tank Commander" perk or something that lets you boot noobs out of the drivers seat.
Also, in-vehicle comms to non-squadmates surely is a must?
Earlier as tank gunner I saw my driver heading right for an array of enemy mines, I didn't have the angle to shoot and I couldn't tell him to stop, all I could do was bail and leave him to his fate.
I'd also like the option to prefer squaddies with mic's and to not be put in Squads where one or more fuckers are running recon and haven't moved past however long it took them to run to their camping spot.
Why do cunts ask to be put in a squad then sit in the deployment attempting and missing ultra long-range snipes across the tiny portion of the battlefield they can actually see? You're not doing me any favours, I can spawn in the fucking deployment any time I want, and I'm not doing you any favours as you're too fucking far away to get any squad bonuses off me.
I'm probably going PC for BF3, I hear there are less pricks who pull that sort of bullshit.
rant over.
P.S. anyone sit hitting refresh on the new captcha thing thinking "pass, pass, pass, ok I'll try that one, fail, pass, FINALLY!"
You won't be much better off, man.
I rarely see a lot of people idling, but the core-idiots always go for the tanks. That's partly why I don't favor vehicles in games because it's usually not very well balanced, and if the dumbest guy on the server runs off with your selection, you're screwed.
Looking at Nam, a doorgunner in a huey can do some serious damage to any sort of defended position, but quite often it's the same back and forth, trying to get the other copter.
Quite often the way the maps are put together means it's a wookies paradise. With dispersion on the guns they have a serious advantage. Although in Vietnam at least the dispersion has been fixed somewhat.
Don't try to get euros to talk on a mic, though. Not gonna happen. Join a clan :p
Clan guys are always the cunt bags trying to get in the back of your deployment and steal your chopper so they can get a base rape on.
No lie, I got an Ace Pin in a game of Conquest last week without leaving our deployment (Atacama). They just kept coming in a steady stream, bypassing the flags and coming straight to our base. Every time I went to leave some other cunt would be coming down the left flank in a tank or trying to sneak in behind the fences on a quad or Hummer or whatever, watching dudes parachute out their chopper, trying to nick ours.
I just sat in my tank wasting them as they came. They were awful Chopper pilots too, I mean the best choppa-ho's you cannot get a tracer dart on for love nor money, I got these dipshits twice.
Personal favourite moment was watching one of them think he was stealthing it around our base, then the moment our chopper spawns he sprints for it. I let him get in, RPG away, nice 150 points for me.
We also won the match by a long way cus the rest of our team were out capping the flags, just a couple of us hung back to keep their hands off our shit.
There are so many clan dicks who play strategies like that. They also tend to be the guys spamming wookie balls.
Haha the best part is I don't even have to explain what I said as everyone else has done it for me above ;):P
Hopefully they'll do knifing like BF2 and CSS where you switch to the knife slot then you can knife, instead of just instantly knifing.
All I ask for is a faithful recreation of El Alamein at some stage. I used to love playing Desert Combat with my mates on that map.
Pre order DLC boo!
Man, I'm laughing and crying every time I play Vietnam.
Laughing because it's better in every way and actually quite enjoyable, but crying because the maps are often so silly, the progression so slow, and the spawning so unbelievably broken.
The spawning is really what gets me. A game where you can actually spawncamp - In 2010? Christ that's bad. Squad spawning is all well and good, but if everybody goes down in a chokepoint, you end up at the spot where the guy is standing ready with a flamethrower, or some ditch that's surrounded by 5 of the other team just waiting for you to stick your head up.
Then there's the weird shit that happens. DICE obviously cared a lot about allowing you to blow shit up, but they didn't neccesarily ensure that you could shoot through a half inch branch on a tree.
I can't believe that they didn't think more into their maps, though. I guess the gamemodes must've gotten a bit too much. I played one map yesterday where no one managed to take two M-Com stations, and people weren't cheering or booing when they lost, it was just a short conversation about how shitty that map was to rush.
It simply isn't enough to make a river, some jungle and a tiny village. It needs a deliberate place in the game.
Then I changed my name in the game because I was using an old tag, and found that I had to start all over with levelling. How can you make a game that doesn't have a fucking rename function, with such a slow levelling tree?
Just the sheer absence of logic makes it feel like it was made by nothing but women.
cant post gameinformer scans but this is one very good looking game, its a proper destructable environment game, even my loathe for too many fps, i'm sold already
So what is about this "There will be no mods for BF3" story?
@DSB, you want to hear about bad spawning? I'm creeping up on this wookie camping over B, CQ, Oasis, I'm about to knife him when his buddy spawns right in front of me, takes the knife meant for his mate :D now THAT is bad spawning.
Unfortunately the original intended victim whirled around and got me before I had a chance at another stab, but fortunately my buddy was downstairs, I spawned on him, went back up, got the both of the camping shits (apparently the guy I knifed didn't learn his lesson).
It's simply amazing, man.
Someone said it felt like DICE hadn't been playing BC2 themselves, and moments like that makes me say it's fairly likely.
I can actually stand on certain hills in Hastings and just point at the NVA spawning grounds. If I'm fast enough on the trigger, they won't get 2 feet after popping out of thin air.
It always ends up pissing me off when I play. It just feels broken.
What's the other map? Vantage Point or some such? Starts out with NVA in a gully being showered with grenades and 40mm, not ever making it to the second M-COM.
It's pretty sad, they could've done a lot better.
