i have started playing pikmin today. it is amazing. absolutely stunning.
ok, sorry...but wow, looks so much better than in those youtube reviews i watched and it plays like a dream.
wiiu does not need to change. it is a great system.
yep, i said it. at least it does not need to change drastically.
nintendo can be confident about it. as a games company they achieved something innovative and great with that thing. now, sales are a completely different beast of course.
to help out a bit in that regard without wearing masks or selling out, nintendo needs more indies, they need a pricecut too, even if it hurts.
i bought my basic wiiu for 199€. the deluxe should be priced like that with nintyland bundled.
they need limited edition wiiu's like the 3ds ones with a game on the internal hdd.
they also need a game that hypes. that hypes like crazy. a zelda or metroid could do the trick, or even a new ip. that's what they need the most. many people have written the wiiu off (unfortunately). they need to make jaws drop.
i think they can write the third parties off now, well, most of them anyway. the wiiu wont make it for the next 7 years but the system can have another amazing 3 or so.
they got great games in the pipeline though. the fall winter release is packed and it looks better than the ps4/x1 lineup. at least in my book. w101, super mario 3d world, rayman, watchdogs, batman, cod, donkey kong, windwaker hd...i mean, that's pretty impressive for the rest of this year. a good variety. then there are some great 3ds titles coming as well. gamescontentwise nintendo really do push the limits right now. you cannot complain about that.
the worst they could do is changing too much.
i really do believe that.
if the wiiu wont recover, it's definitely not because it has bad first party games.
for their next system they should indeed go for a homeconsole/ handheld hybrid. that would suit them just fine and it would solve a lot of problems instantly. they would magically disappear and i would personally love that.
i am not interested in the ms/sony launch games atm. not at all. on the other hand i am extremely happy that games like pikmin3 exist, that they are made even if it's clear that they wont be heavy hitters saleswise. i like that about nintendo. they do what they want to do because they believe in the idea behind the game...and it shows in many of their games. you can always count on the quality too. i want nintendo to stay nintendo and improve slowly, carefully, nothing should be rushed just to force a U turn ;)
if the wiiu wont recover, keep supporting it as good as possible and let it die in peace in a few years. so what. lesson learned.
imo wiiu is the most modern system of them all, from a gameplay perspective that is and gameplay is what nintendo have always been about.
