I got pretty annoyed watching that. The underlying accusation throughout, implied but never explicitly made was that it's the fault of the games and their creators that people become addicted.
It just highlights more for me this culture of diminished responsibility that seems to be permeating every aspect of our lives. We can't make choices for ourselves. We can't be trusted to decide for ourselves how long to play games! We must have warning banners all over everything with common-sense warnings in red 50 point text in radiation hazard font on a yellow background!
I felt the whole thing was pretty misleading too. I always get suspicious when there's a lack of statistical evidence, when you read/watch a "research piece" like this and its mainstay is anecdotal evidence it reeks of shoddy journalism. Basically I got the impression that they're attempting to make it appear to be a bigger problem than it is, attempting to drum up support from fearful parents and "told you so" conservatives for yet more draconian bullshit designed to reduce our decision making abilities and responsibilities and put those decisions in the hands of Big Brother.
I look forward to Grand Theft Auto V where any attempt to steal a car always results in getting caught by the police, court and jail, all played out in real-time. Of course the Shower-bumming mini-game will get cut from the final release, but someone will unlock it via the console in the PC version and the Daily Mail will shit so hard they'll literally hit the fucking roof.
Read this post while you can peeps, this time next year it'll be behind the Tory porn-filter for containing the word, or variant of the word "fuck", then you'll have to enter your credit card details to see it and the missus will flip her lid wondering what the fuck "vg247.com" is when it pops up on the bill. "Virgin Girls 24-7! you dirty bastard!"

What I find ironic is the way that the program seems to highlight the bad products of gaming addiction, such as heavy time wasting/losing friends/money/etc.
Yet it doesn't seem to have a problem letting someone advise a nation of hardcore gamers to "go out and get smashed" instead!
Seems a bit stupid to suggest that alcaholism and wasting millions of the NHS's money while damaging your internal organs is ok, but staying in your room playing a game is much worse.

They should rename this show BBC Propaganda, because that's all this bullshit is.
