As instructed by "da management", here is a thread to drop in requests for elements you feel will improve your everyday VG247 experience ;-)
The VG247 "wants" thread

My first request:
- a mobile-friendly version of the site. I'm not talking about a wholesale downgrade to WAP, but something formatted to work a little better on the average smartphone would be nice. It would also be fairly unique amongst gaming news sites. Aside from Gamespot's horrible mobile portal I don't know of anyone that currently does this

Not tried the new format on it yet but there were a few problems when posting from the PS3 web browser in the old version - it let you post but came up with a strange error message instead of taking you back to the page you just commented on. I'll retest when I have the chance and post if there is still an issue.

prostitutes. site needs more of 'em.
Posted 4 years ago # -
@DrDamn: the website has been completely re-done from the ground up, so I doubt you'll have the same issue. Not saying you won't have any issues though :)

This may or may not be a bug... but the "Last comments" section is awful compared to the old one. =/
Posted 4 years ago # -
It would be nice if you jumped directly to the last page of comments.

The Corners.
You know what I mean.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I don't know why, but I find the "latest comments" on the front page particularly difficult to read. Maybe needs more emphasis on the heading, and a little more snippet text.

@mart
Ok should be fine then. Presumably you test the site with IE, Firefox, Safari & Chrome. It would be sensible for any gaming website to also test basic functionality with the PS3 and Wii browsers.Posted 4 years ago # -
Why?
Posted 4 years ago # -
Err ... it's method your target audience uses to browse the web?
Posted 4 years ago # -
Because 0.5% of the visitors may be using it for 5 minutes of their time they spend on the site. :o)
It looks fine on the PS3 by the way.

"it's method your target audience uses to browse the web?"
It really isn't :)
Anyway, I've cleared up a lot of browser bugs in general over the last couple of days, so I'd surprised to find any showstoppers on console browsers. I'll have a look on Wii/PS3 when I get home as I don't have the luxury of both machines sitting on my desk for me to test on.

Still got that scroll bar at the bottom on 1028 x 768 resolution.
IT'S DOIN' MAH HEAD IN! >(

We're going to put the Latest Comments box back to the old functionality, PT.

Michael - sorry, that will get fixed eventually, but it's fiddlier than it looks. Gonna do another run of tidy ups and fixes as soon as I can, and I'll bundle it up in that one. Please bear with me.

I think he means that if you go to the RSS feed (http://www.vg247.com/feed/), then click a link to one of the posts and then go back to the feed the link you clicked is NOT marked a read. I.e. the link is still the same colour as all the other links, whereas the colour of the link should change so you know you have clicked it.
I had to go to a different site's RSS page to double check that this was meant to happen, but he is right.

I would like to see someone lead the way with Community stories. The sort of stuff that PR ignore. Maybe even an 'events' calendar that is either industry related and or/gaming tournament related
Posted 4 years ago # -
@Roybott: ok, but surely that's the news reader's fault, not our feed? I'm a bit confused by that tbh.
Posted 4 years ago # -
@Mart: Yeah I'm confused by it too, that's why I went to another site's feed to check it...
Hmmm... Ok ignore what I said, I just went to double check again and see if it made sense but it seems that this morning I was half awake and imagined I saw what I said (I had only just got up :S)
I think you are right as in the problem shouldn't be with your RSS but the reader unless 'cachucha' was refering to something else.
(Ok and to prove I was half awake my message was actually meant to be posted in the 'Broken things' thread in reply to 'cachucha' message)

Request:
A 'reply to' button so I dont accidently reply to a message in the wrong thread again... I have NO idea how I managed that!Posted 4 years ago # -
@Mart
"It really isn't :)"Maybe because the previous site had issues.
"I don't have the luxury of both machines sitting on my desk for me to test on."
Take my original request as the perfect excuse to get them ;)

"Michael - sorry, that will get fixed eventually, but it's fiddlier than it looks. Gonna do another run of tidy ups and fixes as soon as I can, and I'll bundle it up in that one. Please bear with me. "
No worries mate. Just being silly. From designing sites, I know what it can be like to change one bit of code and have the entire layout EXPLODE in your face. *laughs* Good luck figuring it out.
Posted 4 years ago # -
The TEA problem wouldn't be so bad if some people didn't react to every single thing he says. That's why half the threads end up with 50 comments of crap. It takes two or more to argue.
JUST IGNORE HIS POSTS, *PLEASE*.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Can we have an 'ignore poster' button please. It's made even the eg forums quite readable these days. I'm sure they'd lend you the code for it :)
Posted 4 years ago # -
What does an ignore button do I mean if someone's been an ass hole just ignore full stop IMHO.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Yeah, but it means you don't have to even read their posts or skip past them.
I can even read the comments to one of those eg face off articles these days and enjoy it. Admittedly my comments total seems to be about half of the actual total but that just shows the high 'tard rating these articles attract :)
Posted 4 years ago # -
I see you changed the format on front page nice touch.
