I have asked Pat to please revoke Mod privileges to those who change ppl's comments.
If you are a Moderator, please be responsible and take your Job seriously, and use your power to make VG247 the fun place it is, not editing or changing ppl's comments.

Could be sorting this spam out myself as we speak. Especially the stuff on the site, which is incredibly easy to manage.

There's a spambot on the site right now that could be stopped permanently in five seconds.
Probably what I did was out of line.
However, the two posters concerned had allowed an argument to spill over from the comments to the forum, I felt it was pretty unnecessary to be taking digs at each other, particularly when each decided to start their own thread for just such a purpose.
And tbh after spending 7 hours on a 70 minute journey, I wasn't really in the mood for any pish.
Anyway, it was worth it for O'Connors reaction.

I think you should have dropped an email to Pat and let him know, and ultimately he should have made that call, in my opinion.
Mods should never alter, edit or change ppl's comments. If Pat had asked you to edit it or delete it then fine.
You made a call based on your personal preference, and that is not acceptable, and editing ppl's comments to make it "funny" is never acceptable.
You inadvertently changed the dynamics of the forum, which no moderator should ever do. We are meant to be invisible behind the scene's.
The point of being a mod really is to remove any spam, not be a censor, good or bad.
Pat will probably explain it better then I would - his site, his rules - but the point is to let people say whatever they say - all within reason, of course (no racism and all that) - so if Michael and TEA want to have a fight, let them duke it out.
It could be annoying yes, but it's freedom of speech - again, all within reason.
I'm just going to quote what was said when the site relaunched nearly two years ago. That sums it up nicely.
"Remember, as with the comments threads, there’s no moderation and no one gets banned. We will remove spam and we’ll delete posts if we receive specific legal threats. But that’s it. We want you to live the hippy internet dream."
As for the punishment, if any, Pat will decide that.
FYI, spam on the site: I'll sort it out now. Only those with access can only remove the spam on the site.

Modding here is only about removing spam. If you see anything you think needs to be edited (racism, etc), please ask me by either posting in here or emailing me. If this isn't crystal clear I'll simply revoke reader mods entirely.
And there's no "punishment" for anything. If you can remove spam when you see it, then that's great. Please don't do anything else.

The only Mod who edited or deleted anything was freedom_stain( as far as I know)...I think Pat was perfectly clear. I wanted to let Pat know asap. I love this site due to the freedom of speech, that is why I am here all the time.

@Johnny I know deleting them is easy, bit there are systems built into Wordpress capable of stopping a lot of this stuff from ever even getting posted in the first place, which people with the access are either not aware of simply not bothering to make use of.
That spambot has been posting for almost a year, when it could be shut down in a matter of seconds. But hry, if you to keep it going instead of using a permanent solution....

Actually, the mods can't take any credit for this clean spell, there literally hasn't been any spam in 6 hours.
I dunno if the site has been updated or if the botnet has given up, but the last deleted spam in the dash was 6 hours ago.
I just deleted some.
Mods r needed. I don't know how many, I think we have it well covered at this point tbh.
The only thing I would like to add is that I think some of the members should take more advantage of the forums. They are here for you, use 'em. No point in keeping them clean if they go grossly unused.
Lastly I hope that the actions of one mod won't adversly effect the abilities of the other mods. I didn't enjoy the forums when they were covered in spam. they were unuesable.

Steph I saw his post about 5 min after he originally posted it. I chose not to respond. He's a child and is beneath me.
