I think keeping this site clean of spam is more work then even one or two or ten people can handle. If frosty needs/wants a bit o'help, consider my name in the hat.

I know Wordpress fairly intimately as. I'll see if I can find some more effective measures. Surely this forum system has an adminadmin panel for specifying spam criteria and stuff?

Umm Garratt please be careful who you give authority to. I feel rest assured that O.G. is not biased in any form and he won't interfere with the great quality of freedom of speech but others (who will remain nameless) who run their own unpopular insignificant site should "NEVER" be considered more than a member.
Ultimately you can do whatever the hell you want with your own site but I think it would be shooting yourself in the foot if you don't consider my advice. Don't know whats up with all the spam really. Either you have a really poor filtering system or someone hates you a lot to be going out there way to spam this place like crazy. Maybe its that RGW123 guy you banned a couple months back. Who knows?

Oh do shut up, you braindead tool. One of the sites I help run gets up to 1.5 million hits a month, and we have industry contacts across the board... so I can safely say that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
Then again, that's always been the case.
What's the name of forum plugin you're using, Pat?.

Yeppers it is 24/7 and I have been deleting up to 30 a day..and they still keep popping up. I will NEVER delete anything but the SPAM! That was all I cared about.

DaMan: Already helped Pat with some of the site spam in the past. There's some very easy ways to stop that. I can only assume the same system doesn't exist on the forums.

In the last 24 hours we've deleted 71 spam threads between us (counted it up in the dashboard), that's insane.

Yea it is kinda crazy. I felt like a super hero last night I nailed a couple within seconds of being posted. Very empowering! Take that you nasty Spammers! ..and that, that, and that!

It really is the worst I am seeing right now out of all the forums I visit. I still get that nagging suspicion that someone is mad at the site though, but hey who knows..SPAM and BOTS love to file in non-stop..but the other mods are doing a great job too now!

@frosty, I think vg247 is just being targeted by a botnet because its identified an easy target. If you check out the main page on the dashboard you can see that there's a consistent signup rate of similar nonsensical usernames, basically the botnet has identified a site with a good hit rate and an easy signup system and it's letting rip.
You can tell it's coming from a botnet rather than a single source because all the ip's are different, but all the spam is the same format.

Doesn't matter. Freedom of speech and all that.
They're editing people's posts. I'm pretty positive after being here for years that that sort of thing isn't part of Pat's personal approach for the site, and I'm fairly certain sure these people are well aware of that. These positions weren't handed out so that people could edit other people's content as they see fit. That's just bullshit and uncalled for.
