Can you give me an example of an article here which is biased in such a way that it's designed to make other people feel bad? I've had to leave other sites because of this, because their obviously slanted BS has driven me crazy. And unless you actually agree with them, you get banned.
I've seen that. I understand that it exists. Yet on VG24/7 I've never seen any evidence of this. And whilst I don't like presenting myself as an arse-kisser, I will praise anyone who I believe deserves to be praised. I've seen people pick up the VG24/7 guys on stuff, and they've responded in posts to whatever anyone's picked them up on. Compared to other sites I've been to, they're saints, and their unbiased nature is an often unsung boon.
I just respect them. I respect them because they are human beings who can have opinions which aren't designed to create schisms and binary oppositions. That's incredibly rare.
To be honest, I think it's ironic to see them accused of that.
Where have they done such? If it's due to the brouhaha related to the XBox One fiasco, that's due to the fact that it was a fiasco. And their reporting on it was fair. Now that Microsoft has reneged their position, things are better and people are speaking more positively of them. But as a news site, I'd be surprised if they didn't bring news of a console trying to undermine the rights of the consumers.
TotalBiscuit, whom I often feel is appreciably neutral too, has said the same about it. It's not attacking the XBox One or XBox One fans. It's attacking the removal of consumer rights.
That's not attacking you as a fan.
If Steam were to do the same thing tomorrow, I'd be fairly pissed at them, in all honesty, and I doubt I'd be so much of a Steam fan any more. Thankfully they haven't tried to pull anything like that, and I appreciate it. I don't get so emotionally invested in a product, though.
If you look at the front page of VG24/7 right now, though, you can clearly see it's not at all slanted.
First thing that catches my eye, there: They've posted a POSITIVE rumour about how Microsoft may now be allowing indies to self-publish on the XBox One, thus further reneging on their prior bad decisions. How is that a slanted viewpoint? Furthermore, they have an article about the XBox One's new headset right there on the front page as well.
Coverage seems to be pretty even, to me.
What I think you're seeing is the user responses to what Microsoft did. And what they did was pretty stupid. Let's be honest, removing rights from the consumer, and removing capability from the indie developer? That is stupid. It's obviously going to be reported upon by a news site, but now that there's positive news, that's being reported too.
Believe me, I've become sensitive to this after seeing cult of popularity sites which do do this. Sites like Kotaku, Eurogamer, and Rock, Paper, Shotgun, devoted to putting opinions written up like essays designed to enlighten the unwashed masses. Always having their name attached in big letters to every news article on the front page, and things of that ilk. VG24/7 doesn't do that.
So cut them some slack. As bad as you think they are, there are a billion worse multiformat sites out there. To their credit, I honestly think they're pretty good.
